Doha College has opened its new Sensory Room, a transformative space dedicated to supporting the emotional, behavioural, and sensory needs of students and staff across both the Primary and Secondary schools.By addressing the unique sensory needs of students with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and sensory processing challenges, the Sensory Room paves the way for more equitable and effective education.“This pioneering project was made possible through the exceptional generosity of engineer Hamad bin Abdullah al-Attiyah, a Doha College parent and long-standing supporter of the school’s vision for holistic education,” a statement said. The Sensory Room, which offers a specially designed environment filled with adaptable sensory stimuli, is an active therapeutic space that empowers individuals to manage their emotions, reduce anxiety, improve focus, and ultimately enhance learning readiness.Engineer al-Attiyah, who has children in both Primary and Secondary at Doha College, expressed his aspirations for the new space. “Every child deserves a space where they feel calm, safe, and supported. May this donation help support that vision and create a space for every child to thrive, reflect, and grow — because every mind matters.”His vision aligns seamlessly with Doha College’s goal of fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments.Al-Attiyah had earlier donated to Doha College the Al Attiyah Adventure Playpark, an outdoor activity space for Primary students. Since its opening, the Playpark has become a cornerstone of the school’s focus on whole-child development, encouraging physical activity, teamwork, and resilience through play.David Lish, chief operating officer of Doha College, commented: “We’re incredibly fortunate to benefit from the generosity of al-Attiyah once more. He was supportive from the outset of the vision of the Primary School to have a facility that enables pupils to have a reset and continue their day thereafter, providing maximum contact time for our excellent staff and continuity of education provision. We know this will be hugely powerful for a large number of Doha College pupils.”Lish added: “The Qatari culture for giving continues to enable us to direct fee income elsewhere and acts as a catalyst for philanthropic activity from other individuals”.The Sensory Room is not limited to any group — it is an inclusive, school-wide resource that benefits all pupils and staff. The room embodies Doha College’s commitment to mental health and holistic development, from helping younger students learn self-regulation techniques to supporting older students with sensory sensitivities, and even offering staff a calming space to decompress.“The Sensory Room isn’t just an addition to our facilities—it’s a statement about who we are as a school,” said Klelia Antoniou, head of Learning Support at Doha College Primary. “It reflects our values of empathy, accessibility, and the pursuit of well-being for all members of our community.”With this latest investment in well-being, Doha College reaffirms its commitment to holistic education and developing every learner’s full potential, the statement added.
