The Ministry of Interior has issued safety guidelines for employees at workplaces, outlining a set of instructions and procedures to be followed when responding to precautionary security alerts. This initiative is part of the Ministry's commitment to enhancing public safety and raising awareness of preventive measures within the workplace.The ministry clarified that employees must take national alerts or warnings issued through official channels seriously and immediately comply with their instructions. They should also follow updates only through official sources and refrain from spreading rumours or republishing unreliable information.The ministry emphasised the necessity of adhering to the directives of the relevant authorities and security and safety teams at the workplace, avoiding any individual interpretations.Regarding safe conduct within buildings, the ministry urged employees to remain inside the building upon the issuance of any precautionary alert, maintain calm, and avoid causing alarm. Employees should also avoid going outside or to open areas and stay away from windows, glass facades, and open surfaces.The ministry stressed the importance of staying away from energy sources and flammable materials, and minimising unnecessary movement between floors or buildings.Regarding evacuation of facilities, the ministry recommended familiarising oneself with emergency exits, evacuation routes, and designated assembly points within the workplace. It also advised against using elevators when an evacuation alert or instruction is given, recommending instead the use of stairs and emergency exits.The ministry emphasised the need to avoid pushing or crowding while moving to safe areas within the building and to keep corridors and emergency exits clear of obstructions to ensure rapid evacuation when necessary.The guidelines also included instructions to follow in the event of an explosion or sudden incident. The ministry explained that if a person is outside the building when an explosion occurs, they should immediately go to the nearest safe area within the building and remain there after hearing the explosion or alert until instructions are issued by the relevant authorities that the danger has passed.Regarding the handling of suspicious objects and hazards, the Ministry emphasised the necessity of immediately reporting any suspicious object or unusual observation through the designated channels within the organisation or by contacting the relevant authorities. It stressed the prohibition of touching or approaching any metallic object, shrapnel fragments, or unidentified objects.The ministry also emphasised the importance of organisational discipline within the workplace, stressing the need to refrain from photographing incidents, sites, or security procedures and posting them on social media. Furthermore, it highlighted the importance of knowing emergency numbers and how to contact designated security and safety supervisors within the organisation, as well as the necessity of fully cooperating with security and safety officials and adhering to their instructions under all circumstances.The ministry indicated that the security and safety departments in governmental, semi-governmental, and private entities are responsible for disseminating these guidelines to employees and monitoring their implementation. They are also tasked with ensuring the readiness of emergency exits, evacuation routes, assembly points, and response mechanisms for precautionary alerts.The ministry confirmed that it will take the necessary legal measures against anyone who violates these guidelines, in accordance with applicable regulations. It also encouraged the public to contact them with any inquiries or comments regarding safety guidelines via the numbers: 2355585 and 2355633.  

In an extraordinary emergency meeting Thursday, the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU) convened virtually to address the escalating tension following recent Iranian attacks on several GCC countries, including Qatar.The high-level session brought together Their Excellencies, the foreign ministers of GCC and EU states, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in a unified bid to contain the crisis threatening regional and global stability.Representing Qatar, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al‑Thani strongly condemned the Iranian strikes that targeted Qatari territory, describing them as a blatant violation of national sovereignty and the principles of good neighbourliness.The PM emphasised that Qatar, which has consistently worked to mediate and avoid regional confrontations, viewed the renewed aggression as undermining the trust underpinning its bilateral relations with Tehran. He reaffirmed Qatar’s solidarity with fellow GCC countries and its support for all measures taken to defend their security and stability.The ministers jointly denounced the Iranian attacks as “unjustifiable” acts that endangered civilian lives and damaged critical infrastructure, including oil and service facilities. They noted that such actions pose serious risks to regional peace and the global economy. The EU reaffirmed its solidarity with the GCC nations, pledging continued coordination to deter further escalations and ensure the protection of civilians and international law.Calling for an immediate end to hostilities, the ministers urged Iran to cease all military operations and return to the path of diplomacy. They underscored their commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue and stressed adherence to the UN Charter and principles of international humanitarian law.The meeting also praised Oman’s constructive role in facilitating communication and de-escalation efforts prior to the attacks.Reaffirming the GCC states’ inherent right to self‑defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, the ministers declared that the Gulf nations reserve the right to take all necessary measures to defend their territories and people.At the same time, they reiterated their determination to pursue diplomatic channels to secure a sustainable resolution that prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons and halts the proliferation of ballistic missiles, drones, and other destabilising technologies.The discussions also highlighted the critical importance of safeguarding regional airspace and maritime routes — particularly through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab‑el‑Mandeb — to ensure freedom of navigation and stability of global energy supplies. The ministers commended the EU for its naval operations ASPIDES and ATALANTA, which enhance maritime security and protect vital trade routes.In closing, both sides reaffirmed the significance of the GCC‑EU strategic partnership, first established in 1988 and renewed at the Brussels Summit in 2024. They pledged intensified coordination to uphold peace, protect regional security, and ensure that the Gulf remains a cornerstone of global economic stability. 

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani visited the Air Operations Center Wednesday. During the visit, His Highness the Amir inspected the high level of readiness of the military units and their preparedness, and listened to a briefing on the progress of operations and the measures taken to enhance the security of vital facilities and to protect the airspace and territorial waters, within the framework of preserving the security and stability of the homeland.His Highness praised the efforts exerted by the members of the Qatari Armed Forces and their high competence in carrying out their duties, stressing the importance of continuing to raise levels of readiness and co-ordination in a manner that ensures the protection of the State and the safeguarding of its security and the safety of its citizens and residents.

The secret conclave that elected Pope Leo head of the Catholic Church last May was interrupted when one of the 133 cardinals involved was found carrying a cellphone, a massive security breach, a book released Sunday revealed.As the clerics were preparing to take their first vote inside the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, which was fitted with jamming equipment to prevent outside communications, security officials picked up the signal of an active mobile connection.The cardinals stared at each other incredulously, then one of the older clerics discovered he had a phone in his pocket and handed it over, according to *The Election of Pope Leo XIV, a new book by two long-time Vatican correspondents.The book does not name the cardinal or suggest he had any motive for keeping his phone, saying that the moment left him "disoriented and distressed".The scene was "unimaginable even for a film and never before seen in the history of modern conclaves", wrote the authors, Gerard O'Connell and Elisabetta Pique.One such film, the 2024 hit *Conclave, imagined a tangled web of intrigues during the fictional selection of a pontiff.Last year's unprecedented discovery of a phone was in its own way more startling than anything portrayed in that movie, O'Connell told Reuters."Reality (was) better than fiction," he said.Clerics taking part in a conclave take a vow not to communicate with the outside world and surrender their phones and all other communication devices for the duration of the proceedings, which can last for days.The Vatican press office did not respond to a request for comment about the new book, which offers behind-the-scenes details of one of the world's most secretive elections.The cardinals met in a two-day conclave from May 7-8 under an intense global spotlight to elect a successor to Pope Francis, who died in April after 12 years leading the 1.4bn-member church.Much of the speculation at the time focused on the possibility that the cardinals would elect a new pontiff from Asia or Africa, given that the conclave was the most geographically diverse in history, with clerics from 70 countries taking part.However, no candidate from those regions garnered much support, according to the book, which discloses details of the cardinals' votes for the first time based on information from interviews with participating clerics.While it is strictly forbidden for cardinals to reveal details of the secret balloting at a conclave without permission from the future pope, it is common for journalists to slowly tease out information from clerics in the years afterward.Two candidates immediately emerged as frontrunners inside the conclave, the book said.One was Italian Cardinal Pietro Parolin, a long-time Vatican official identified by many outlets as a leading favourite.The other was US Cardinal Robert Prevost, a figure who was mostly unknown outside church circles but would emerge as Pope Leo, the first pontiff from the US.On the first vote in the conclave, held in the evening of May 7, Prevost already received between 20-30 votes, an unusually large number, according to the book.Philippine Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who was also seen as a favourite going into the election, only ever received fewer than 10 votes in the conclave.On the fourth ballot in the afternoon of May 8, Prevost won with 108 votes.Tagle was sitting next to Prevost as the final vote was being tallied and offered the future pope a cough drop to soothe his throat, the book said.
