Indian ambassador Vipul has underscored that the strategic partnership agreement signed in 2025 between India and Qatar is now shaping a year of “intense and continuous engagement” across diverse sectors, setting the tone for bilateral relations in 2026.“We signed the strategic partnership agreement in 2025 during the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and that has given us a roadmap on what to work on and that is something that will continue during 2026, as well,” Vipul told Gulf Times on the sidelines of ‘India Utsav’ launched Sunday by LuLu Hypermarket Qatar at its Al Gharafa branch in celebration of India’s 77th Republic Day.The ambassador noted that His Highness the Amir’s visit to India last year catalysed a series of high-level exchanges, including ministerial visits and the inaugural Joint Business Council meeting. These interactions, he said, are laying the groundwork for the goals set by both leaderships.“After the state visit of His Highness the Amir to India, 2025 was a very important year for us, and there was a lot of activity that got generated following this visit because the leadership of both our countries set some very important goals for all of us to work on,” Vipul pointed out.Vipul explained that the roadmap extends beyond traditional trade and investment, encompassing emerging areas, such as technology, sustainability, and artificial intelligence (AI). He emphasised that both nations are committed to advancing co-operation in these fields.The ambassador also highlighted the strength of people-to-people connections, which he said underpin the bilateral relationship and extend into business, academia, and venture capital. “There is so much of close connect...people who are in business, who are on the technology side, who are venture capitalists, people who are into academics and everything,” he noted.According to Vipul, he is anticipating that 2026 will see continued ministerial and official visits, reinforcing the strategic objectives agreed upon by the two countries’ leadership. “There is groundwork that has been done to give shape to the goals and objectives that have been set by the leadership of both our countries,” he emphasised.He also pointed to the target of doubling bilateral trade by 2030, stressing that while gas remains a major component, India’s growing manufacturing base, from electronics to automobiles and food products, offers new expansion opportunities.Vipul added that the strategic partnership agreement provides a clear framework for both sides to deepen co-operation, ensuring that 2026 becomes "a year of sustained progress across multiple dimensions of the relationship." 

His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani sent a written message to Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong, pertaining to bilateral relations and ways to support and develop them. The message was handed over by ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Singapore Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al-Malki during his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. 

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic Giorgos Gerapetritis met Tuesday with Qatar's ambassador to the Hellenic Republic Ali bin Khalfan al-Mansouri. The meeting discussed bilateral relations. 

Qatar and Canada issued a joint statement Monday following Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s historic visit to Doha, announcing a significant expansion of bilateral ties including major Qatari investments in Canadian infrastructure and upgraded diplomatic relations. The statement, released during the first-ever visit by a sitting Canadian Prime Minister to Qatar, confirmed that both nations will elevate their bilateral consultations to a Foreign Ministers-level Strategic Dialogue. Prime Minister Carney met with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on January 18, resulting in several memoranda of understanding across economic, technology, and security sectors. Qatar committed to making substantial strategic investments in Canada’s nation-building projects, while Canada pledged to bring major pension fund delegations to explore investment opportunities in Qatar. The countries agreed to finalise a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement by summer 2026 and begin negotiations on a Double Taxation Agreement. The partnership includes co-operation on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies supporting Qatar’s Vision 2030, security collaboration for the 2026 FIFA World Cup building on Qatar’s 2022 tournament experience, and establishment of a Canadian Defence Attaché presence in Doha. 

His Excellency Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi met Sunday with Lebanon's ambassador to Qatar Bilal Kabalan. During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations and ways to support and strengthen them.

His Excellency the Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari met with Minister of Finance and National Revenue of Canada, Francois-Philippe Champagne at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Doha, reports QNA.  The meeting addressed bilateral relations between the two countries and explored avenues for enhanced co-operation. Discussions also covered key economic, investment, and trade developments of mutual interest.

US President Donald Trump expressed his appreciation for the efforts of his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El Sisi for the mediation efforts between Hamas and the Israeli occupation to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing his appreciation for bilateral relations between the two countries.In a message to the Egyptian President, Trump noted the repercussions of the war in Gaza on security and humanitarian conditions.He also said that the US was ready to launch a mediation between the State of Qatar and Ethiopia to resolve the dispute over the Nile water sharing that addresses the needs of all parties involved. He stressed that no country should unilaterally control the precious resources of the Nile.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani received a written message from Guinea President Mamady Doumbouya, pertaining to enhancing bilateral relations and ways to support and develop them. His Excellency the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi received the message during his meeting with Guinea ambassador to Qatar Thierno Abdoulaye Sow. 

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani met Monday with US Undersecretary of State for Economic Affairs, Jacob Helberg, who is visiting the country.  The two sides discussed the close strategic relations between Qatar and the US and ways to support and strengthen them, in addition to a host of topics of common interest. 

His Excellency the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi held a meeting with Bojan Kumer, the Minister of the Environment, Climate, and Energy of the Republic of Slovenia, in Doha Monday to discuss energy relations and co-operation between Qatar and Slovenia and means to enhance them.

His Excellency Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi met Monday with Egypt ambassador to Qatar Walid Fahmy al-Faqi. During the meeting, they discussed relations between the countries and ways to support and enhance them.

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani met Saturday with a delegation of United States Congress members following their visit to the country.They discussed the close strategic relations between Qatar and the United States, and ways to support and strengthen them.They also discussed developments in the region, particularly in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to a host of topics of mutual interest.The prime minister emphasised the need for combined regional and international efforts to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, paving the way toward achieving sustainable peace and the much sought-after stability in the region.
