Qatar, Oman and Pakistan have been making constant efforts to facilitate engagement between Iran and the United States and to bridge their viewpoints, Adviser to the Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari said Tuesday.Co-ordination is ongoing between the GCC states and regional partners to support endeavours aimed at reaching a lasting solution to the crisis, he noted.Speaking at the ministry's weekly press briefing, al-Ansari said the current priority is to contain the escalation and reopen the way for diplomatic efforts. He stressed the importance of returning to the negotiating table as the optimal off-ramp to address the ongoing disputes.Regional and international de-escalation efforts and the push for a diplomatic solution are still under way, he said, with countries of the region working collaboratively to avoid any new escalation and uphold the return to the dialogue path.Mediators are consistently working to create the appropriate conditions for the resumption of direct dialogue, al-Ansari said, adding that he hoped these efforts would yield positive outcomes in the near future.Drawing on its experience in international mediation, Qatar does not set specific timelines to reach deals, he said, noting that the success of any agreement hinges on the readiness of all relevant parties.Qatari communications are ongoing at various leadership levels with the parties concerned in pursuit of a breakthrough in the negotiations, al-Ansari said, while emphasising that no final agreement has been reached so far.On navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz, he said Qatar's stance is firm in calling for freedom of navigation in accordance with international law, and in preventing the strait from being used either as a vehicle for political pressure or to achieve unilateral interests.The minimum demand at the current stage is a return to the previous status of the strait, in line with international law and in co-ordination with all littoral and concerned nations, al-Ansari said.Any future arrangements on the management of the strait or the regulation of navigation through it must be reached through consensus among all affected countries in the region, he stressed, describing the uninterrupted flow of trade and freedom of passage as a shared priority for the international community.On Gaza, al-Ansari said the statement issued by the mediators on continuing Israeli violations is intended to hold Israel responsible for implementing the ceasefire deal in the strip.Efforts are continuing with a range of parties, particularly the United States, alongside the mediators Qatar, Egypt and Turkiye, to ensure the swift enforcement of the second phase of the agreement, he said.The international community has clearly identified the party obstructing implementation on the ground, al-Ansari said, noting that the transition to the second phase — based on US President Donald Trump's plan and the support he announced for it — places full responsibility on the Israeli side.He recalled that Hamas has been committed to what is required of it, and that there are clear undelivered obligations on the Israeli side under the accord.The course of negotiations since 2023 has been marked by several instances of Israeli procrastination in implementing the terms of the agreement, he said, pointing to the latest Israeli escalation and the targeting of civilians in Gaza, which killed more than 30 people.Al-Ansari described that action as a fresh attempt to disrupt progress on the negotiations track and impede peaceful solutions to the conflict.He also stressed the importance of Israeli withdrawal from all occupied territories, asserting that occupation is unwarranted in all its forms and that Qatar bases its positions on international law and the relevant references.He called on the international community to exert further pressure to ensure implementation of the agreement, culminating in the reconstruction of Gaza and an improvement in the humanitarian conditions of its people, who have been suffering for more than two years.On the telephone conversation between His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, al-Ansari said Qatar has been committed to keeping all regional and international partners informed of the evolving situation in the region.The implications of the current crisis go beyond regional borders, he said, making it imperative to bolster co-ordination and consultations with various international partners in support of efforts to reach diplomatic solutions.Communications with the Russian side are ongoing on a variety of issues, al-Ansari said, noting that the recent call addressed the evolving regional situation and the latest developments in the diplomatic efforts under way.He underscored the importance of briefing international partners on the progress of the negotiations and the efforts The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has declared four days of official mourning and ordered flags to be flown at half-mast nationwide and at all its embassies and diplomatic missions abroad following the passing of the late His Highness the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani. In a statement on Sunday, the Presidential Court said the mourning period would begin Sunday and continue through Wednesday. The Court prayed to Allah Almighty to bestow his boundless mercy upon the late HH the Father Amir and grant him a place in Paradise.
