On the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2024, the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Qatar University (QU) organized a ceremony to honor the winners of the Qatar Global Award for Dialogue Among Civilizations 2024, which comes in its fourth session under the theme 'Science Dialogue: Towards a Civilized Framework for Knowledge Integration'.In his speech regarding this occasion, HE Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi said that this award comes within the framework of the efforts made by the State of Qatar at the local and international levels in the issues of civilizational dialogue and cultural communication; embodying the goals and objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, which called for sponsoring and supporting the dialogue of civilizations, and coexistence between different religions and cultures.His Excellency said that the celebration of the winners of the Qatar Global Award for Dialogue Among Civilizations comes within the framework of implementing the objectives announced in Qatars plan for the Alliance of Civilizations 2023-2027, which emphasized providing awards for distinguished and funded research in dialogue among civilizations.The Qatar Global Award for Dialogue Among Civilizations was launched in 2018 as a result of cooperation between the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations at MOFA and QU, represented by the ISESCO Chair at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, His Excellency added.His Excellency explained that the award made great strides over the past six years and has become the focus of attention of academic and research circles and institutions from various cultures, and has begun to attract researchers from various countries of the world, which is reflected in the increase in the number of applicants globally. He added that this certainly adds to Qatar's credit, which was at the forefront of the worlds countries in supporting the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations initiative.Regarding the cooperation agreement between QU and the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations for the 2025-2029 period, His Excellency stressed that the Committee looks forward to continuing cooperation with QU in various aspects and fields. This entails implementation of many initiatives and projects included in Qatars plan for the Alliance of Civilizations 2023-2027, most notably the Qatar Global Award for Dialogue Among Civilizations and other programs and projects that highlight Qatars pioneering role in the field of civilizational diplomacy, which is one of the soft power tools that distinguishes Qatar.At the end of his speech, His Excellency congratulated researcher Dr. Medhat Maher Al Laithi from Egypt and Dr. Younes El Khamlichi from Morocco on their award. He also extended sincere thanks and gratitude to the Chairman of the Awards Supreme Committee Dr. Ibrahim Al-Ansari and the members of the jury for their sincere efforts, perseverance and dedication to work to make the event a success.For his part, Dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at QU Dr. Ibrahim Al Ansari pointed out that this award was adopted by QU, the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations, and ISESCO to achieve various educational, research and developmental goals and outcomes that contribute to spreading the culture of coexistence, understanding and mutual respect among nations and peoples.HE Chairman of the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations and the QU President presented the award to Dr. Medhat Maher Al Laithi and Dr. Younes El Khamlichi.At the end of the ceremony, HE Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi and President of Qatar University Dr. Omar bin Mohammed Al Ansari signed a cooperation agreement which aimed to implement joint programs in the dialogue and alliance of civilizations fields and to contribute to spreading the culture of civilizational dialogue to enhance understanding and coexistence between civilizations, religions, nations and peoples, and to develop appropriate mechanisms to implement the proposed programs between the two parties.
