Qatar Press Center (QPC) hosted a high-level media dialogue featuring Syrian Minister of Information Hamza al-Mustafa, joined by editors-in-chief of Qatari newspapers.The session, held in Doha, aimed to strengthen Arab media co-operation and to discuss the future of journalism in the region.The Syrian delegation included Laila al-Rifai, media adviser at the Ministry of Information; Alaa Borsilo, director general of the Syrian Radio and Television Authority; and Mohammad Tafran, assistant minister for Digital Media. HE the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi affirmed that Qatar is following with deep concern the developments in the southern Syrian city of As-Suwayda, out of the firm belief that Syria’s security is an integral part of the region’s stability.In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE Dr al-Khulaifi called for all necessary measures to ensure such crimes are not repeated, including holding accountable all parties responsible for the shedding of civilian blood and the terrorising of innocent, unarmed individuals, especially children, women, and the elderly, and ensuring that those who committed these heinous crimes do not escape punishment.He further emphasised the importance of intensifying efforts to strengthen civil peace through dialogue and peaceful means. He expressed Qatar’s condemnation of the Israeli attacks on the city of As-Suwayda, describing them as blatant violations of Syria’s sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter, and a serious threat to regional security.HE Dr al-Khulaifi also reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and the aspirations of its brotherly people for a dignified life. A group of participants of the fourth edition of the Future Engineer programme visited the Quality and Safety Department of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).According to an X post by Ashghal, the visit is part of a series of interactive field trips aimed at enhancing students’ awareness of the practical and professional aspects of the infrastructure sector.The programme was organised by Ashghal in collaboration with the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC) under the Ministry of Sports and Youth.During the visit, the students were introduced to some of the key safety and security procedures followed in Ashghal projects. They also learned about the process of testing the quality of treated water starting from the initial treatment stages to ensuring compliance with approved environmental standards, as well as the technical procedures and technologies used to ensure the safety of reused water.The visit also included a detailed presentation on the laboratory tests conducted on construction materials such as cement, concrete, asphalt and steel to verify their compliance with technical specifications and ensure their efficiency in project implementation.The programme was launched on July 13 with the participation of 36 male and female students. To run until July 23, the programme aims to enhance the awareness of engineering disciplines and motivate them to explore this vital field.Ashghal offers the participants outstanding and comprehensive training content that provides students with the opportunity to explore various aspects of engineering in a practical and interactive manner.A closing ceremony will be held on July 23 featuring presentations of the final prototypes developed by the students before a specialised judging panel. The ceremony will also include honouring the participants and awarding certificates and trophies to the students and teams that excelled in the engineering challenge.The participants receive wide-ranging information in engineering through specialised workshops and field visits to various departments in Ashghal as well as hands-on experiences in the laboratories at QSC. The programme aims to refine students’ engineering skills and equip them with practical knowledge that supports their future career paths, all within an engaging and interactive learning environment.

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), in collaboration with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), has completed a project aimed at improving shelter conditions at refugee camps, with 1,920 direct beneficiaries.The project involved comprehensive maintenance of 384 shelters at Camps #17 and 8W in Cox’s Bazar, southeastern Bangladesh.The maintenance works, which seeks to enhance safety and privacy, and improving the living environment inside the shelters, especially during the monsoon season, included broken roof replacement, wall reinforcement, and waterproof flooring.This intervention is part of the ongoing humanitarian response to the protracted crisis of more than 700,000 refugees forcibly displaced from Myanmar to Bangladesh in 2017, mostly suffering from difficult living conditions at overpopulated and inadequate camps.According to QRCS, the beneficiaries expressed their happiness with the newly renovated shelters, which would largely help protect their families, especially children, from the harsh weather. This project represents QRCS’ unwavering commitment to supporting the refugee and host communities in Bangladesh, with significant humanitarian and development projects carried out together with local and international partners.

HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie, issued ministerial decision No 15 of 2025, extending the ban on camel grazing in all regions of the country for an additional two years, starting Aug 24. This decision is part of efforts to preserve vegetation cover and biodiversity.In a statement Tuesday, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change explained that the decision also includes a two-year ban on sheep and goat grazing, from Dec 1, 2025 to March 15, 2027, to allow wild plants to grow and regenerate during the rainy seasons. The resolution also allows camel owners to remove their animals from ranches and farms to improve their health, subject to strict regulations and conditions. These regulations require that camels be equipped with identification chips approved by the competent authorities, that their number not exceed 10, and that they wear face masks to prevent them from grazing and cutting down trees.The statement added that the decision emphasises the requirement for camel owners or caretakers to accompany the camels during grazing. Roaming should be limited to daytime, with a distance of at least 200m from meadows, villages, cities, and main roads. Camels should not travel more than one kilometre from the farm site. The decision also prohibits the release of camels within nature reserves, with the exception of the unfenced portion of the Al Reem Reserve.This decision is a continuation of the ministry’s efforts to preserve the Qatari environment, protect the vegetation cover from deterioration, and enhance the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC)’s Department of Chemicals and Hazardous Waste has organised a training programme on “Prevention of Chemical Hazards”, with the participation of 100 employees working in the field of handling hazardous materials at the Abu Samra border crossing.The programme aimed to enhance their awareness of the risks associated with these materials and the methods of prevention.It has equipped the participating employees with the essential information on how to handle hazardous chemicals, ways to prevent their risks, and an introduction to preventative measures and necessary requirements to ensure a safe working environment.

The Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar) at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has organised a health education programme. The programme, according to an official statement from Awqaf, targeted 340 workers from Qatari Diar and Binaa Qatar. The programme was held at Fanar’s branch in the workers’ city in co-operation with the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC). The programme was attended by workers of various nationalities, during which comprehensive medical examinations were provided and some medicines were distributed free of charge. These were in addition to educational lectures on general health aspects and raising awareness of the importance of prevention and self-care. The meeting was also used to provide a brief introduction to Islamic culture and Qatari values and to answer the inquiries of the participating workers. The programme was organised in line with Fanar’s vision to reach the targeted groups of expatriate communities and workers in their locations while ensuring the provision of integrated services that meet their needs and contribute to improving their quality of life, health-wise culturally and spiritually in line with Awqaf’s mission to consolidate the values of compassion and community solidarity. Fanar administration said the programme reflects the integration between government agencies in the country to serve the community, with the PHCC providing the necessary medical support through a team of volunteer doctors and nurses, in addition to medicines and medical supplies.

Trade policy uncertainty has become one of the most critical — and overlooked — threats to the global energy transition, according to the Al-Attiyah Foundation’s latest Sustainability Research Paper.Titled “Tariffs, Trade, and Transition: The Impact of Trade Barriers on Sustainable Energy Goals”, the report examines how recent trade actions, such as the US imposing tariffs exceeding 250% on solar panels and up to 100% on battery components, are disrupting the international flow of clean energy technologies.With solar photovoltaic supply chains alone spanning over 50 countries, even a single policy shift can delay or derail projects on a global scale, it said.The paper highlights that these trade restrictions could delay global renewable energy targets by 3–5 years, while non-tariff barriers — such as local content mandates, certification rules, and technical standards — are adding 15&–25% in compliance costs to clean energy projects.These disruptions have real economic impacts in the first quarter of 2025 alone, nearly $8bn in clean energy investments were cancelled, including major battery and solar manufacturing projects in the US.Highlighting that supply chain concentration adds another layer of vulnerability; the report said China currently dominates global manufacturing in key clean technologies and components, including solar modules, battery cells, and rare earth minerals.This has left the US, EU, and others exposed to policy shocks such as China’s recent export restrictions on graphite and lithium, according to the report.However, the paper also identifies strategic opportunities.The Middle East and North Africa (Mena) countries — including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, and Egypt — possess substantial reserves of critical minerals like lithium, phosphate, and copper, which are essential to clean energy supply chains.Combined with their geographic location bridging Europe, Asia, and Africa, these nations are well-positioned to develop into regional clean energy trade and production hubs, it said.The foundation’s analysis calls for urgent international policy coordination to prevent further fragmentation.Scenario modelling shows that eliminating half of current trade barriers could increase global solar PV deployment by 7% and reduce cumulative emissions by up to 12 giga-tonnes of carbon dioxide or CO₂ by 2060.

For the second consecutive year, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has earned the Golden Award in the 2024 National Cybersecurity Drill, in which over 100 government entities participated.The drill, held under the theme “Zero Hour,” was organised and supervised by the National Cyber Security Agency.The drill aimed to test the readiness of vital entities across the country and assess their ability to respond to cyber threats. Gaza ceasefire negotiations remain in their "early stage" after more than a week of talks, even as mediators step up efforts to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas, Qatar's foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari told reporters Tuesday."Discussions on the framework agreement are still ongoing. Both delegations are present here in Doha, and the mediators are intensifying efforts to reach an agreement," al-Ansari said during his weekly media briefing."The negotiations are still in the first phase, which is specifically about reaching an agreement of principle ahead of negotiations that will begin, God willing, in the next phase," he said.The Qatari spokesman insisted: "We believe there is no stalemate," adding there was no set timeframe for the talks.As long as there are meetings in Doha, this means that the negotiations are ongoing, he said.Qatar has been mediating indirect negotiations between Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and Israel alongside Egypt and the United States.Al-Ansari declined to comment on specific meetings held in the United States between high-level Qatari officials and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.He said that he did not have a specific timetable for Witkoff's visit to Doha.On another note, Dr al-Ansari welcomed the ceasefire announcement in the southern Syrian city of Sweida. He said, "Qatar is in constant contact with the Syrian government on various issues."In response to a question about the Israeli raids on the Syrian province, al-Ansari condemned "Israel's irresponsible policies in the region" and the raids targeting Syria and Lebanon.He added: "We cannot accept the absence of accountability for Israel's absurd behaviour in the region. Director of Projects Management and Development Department at the Ministry of Municipality Abdulaziz al-Rumaihi has revealed the launch of a national project to rehabilitate public beaches and enhance their service infrastructure in cooperation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). This project includes the development of 18 beaches across the country. He indicated that the coming period will witness significant beach development and the opening of new sites according to the approved timetable and in cooperation with municipalities and the private sector.In an exclusive interview al-Rumaihi explained that the first phase of the project included the implementation of eight main beaches in Simaisma, Al Wakra, Sealine, Al Farkia, Al Ghariyah, Safa Al Touq, and Al Kharaij. He emphasised that this step comes as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the quality of life and stimulating domestic tourism.In a related context, he noted the Ministry's preparations for the summer season relied on continuous and direct coordination between the operations and maintenance departments and municipalities to ensure beach readiness and the continuity of services with high efficiency. Additionally, necessary measures were taken to maintain beach quality during the peak season, while periodically monitoring the condition of facilities.Regarding the new services, al-Rumaihi stated that the process of developing beaches and improving their facilities is an ongoing process, conducted according to need, demand, visitor feedback, and field team assessments. He noted in this regard that Al Wakra Municipality has witnessed a number of qualitative additions this year aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and providing an integrated environment.The improvements include the installation of 200 diverse wooden umbrellas, including those designated for people with special needs, the creation of 300 covered urban seating areas to meet the needs of families and individuals, as well as shaded children's play areas equipped with safe sandy floors, the allocation of spaces for restaurants and food carts, and the beautification of beach entrances and walkways, along with planting trees to enhance the environmental and visual aspects.The Director of Projects Management and Development Department confirmed that the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Public Relations Department, is working on developing periodic promotional campaigns to promote the services and facilities available at public beaches, especially those designated for families. These measures include increasing the distribution of umbrellas in seating and gathering areas, creating shaded recreational areas for children, and providing first aid services at major beaches. Al-Rumaihi urged visitors to adhere to the Ministry of Health's guidelines regarding choosing appropriate visiting times, using sunscreen, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.Moreover, the Ministry attaches great importance to maintaining the cleanliness of beaches, especially during the peak season. Cleaning teams have been assigned to work around the clock, in addition to contracting with specialized companies to clean vital facilities such as restrooms and prayer rooms. Field supervision teams are also present to monitor the situation and intervene quickly when needed.

In line with the Third Financial Sector Strategy and the ESG and Sustainability Strategy for the Financial Sector on Enhancing Financial Inclusion, Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has issued instructions on financial services for customers with disabilities and the elderly.QCB indicated that the targeted groups include customers with disabilities who are able to make their own decisions, as well as the elderly.The circular outlines several required provisions, including facilitating access for customers from the targeted groups in all bank branches and ATM locations for banking services by providing ramps, electronic doors, tactile floor signs.QCB stressed giving priority to the targeted groups when conducting transactions in the bank, ensuring privacy for customers with disabilities, and training a portion of the customer service staff on the basics of sign language or providing a virtual interpreter, in addition to educating targeted customers about the risks associated with over-indebtedness, providing ATMs equipped with Braille and audio headsets at a rate of 15% of the total number of ATMs, and placing a clear signal on ATM machines indicating the type of disability supported by the machine.Additionally, banks must guide customers with disabilities to the nearest supportive banking services (branches and/or ATMs).QCB also urged banks to train staff to recognize and respond to financial exploitation of the elderly and meet with elderly clients to confirm agreed arrangements and ensure they understand the agent's legal authority, in addition to encourage the elderly to seek independent legal and financial advice before granting power of attorney and informing the elderly clients of all actions the agent may take under the power of attorney.Banks are given a period of five months to comply with these requirements, QCB said.
