Qatar and France on Tuesday launched joint humanitarian aid to Lebanon. A Qatari and a French aircraft carrying aid including medical supplies, medication and shelter equipment provided by the State of Qatar and the French Republic arrived in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.This aid comes within the framework of the strategic partnership between Qatar and France aimed at supporting those affected by the recent developments in Lebanon.

As part of its humanitarian intervention to assist those affected by floods in Niger, Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed food parcels to residents in several impacted areas, benefiting approximately 4,350 sponsored individuals.The aid is part of QC's 'Save Flood Victims' campaign, aimed at supporting those affected in 18 countries, including Niger, in co-ordination with local authorities.The assistance included the distribution of 589 tonnes of essential food items in the regions of Niamey, Dosso, Tillaberi, and Zinder, with a focus on the most vulnerable groups, such as families with children, the elderly, people with disabilities, teachers, and students.The food parcels, which contained essential food supplies sufficient for families for a month, helped meet the urgent needs of the affected population, many of whom have lost their homes and livelihoods due to the floods.Donations to the campaign can be made through QC's website: https://qch.qa/Floods.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) hosted the 5th annual Qatar Collegiate Programming Competition (QCPC).The competition set a new record for participation, attracting a total of 114 teams, comprising 349 students and coaches from universities and high schools in Doha.After the end of an intense and competitive weekend, the CMU-Q’s Thang Bui-Nguyen, George Chkhaidze and Dilshodbek Khujaev took the top spot in the university track, solving an impressive 11 problems out of 13.In the high school track, Aditya Menon and Yash Sah from DPS Monarch International School were the top team, with six problems solved.It was an extraordinary showing from the high school students, whose results matched those of the second and third ranked teams in the university track.CMU-Q dean Michael Trick expressed delight at seeing the enthusiasm for programming among the youth of Qatar."Programming competitions are about more than a single event ... they are about building a community around creative problem solving," he said. "It is extraordinary to see so many students here who are passionate about programming."Giselle Reis, area head for computer science at the CMU-Q and a co-organiser of the competition, said: "Each year, the students improve and the the QCPC becomes more competitive."We are simply delighted to see so much programming talent at both the high school and university levels in Qatar," she said.The QCPC is the only national programming competition in Qatar.The two-day competition challenges students to answer complex programming questions using their programming skills.The QCPC is part of the International Collegiate Programming Competition, the oldest and most prestigious competition worldwide.

UN agencies in Qatar launched a "Code of Conduct for UN Employers of Domestic Workers in Qatar" in the presence of UN staff, government representatives, domestic workers and embassies. The Code of Conduct is a voluntary commitment by UN staff in the country, demonstrating a shared responsibility to promote and protect the rights of domestic workers, in both their professional and personal lives. "Domestic Workers are among the most vulnerable workers because the job happens behind closed doors," said Chief of Mission (OIC) for IOM in Qatar Ewa Naqvi. "It is our collective duty as UN staff to ensure that we are modeling practices that protect their rights and are in line with national and international legislation," she added. HE the Assistant Undersecretary for Migrant Labours Affairs at the Ministry of Labour Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman al-Thani pointed out the efforts of Qatar's government in improving the situation of domestic workers, adding that the "code aligns with Qatar's national goal of enhancing the protection of workers' rights, including those of domestic workers in Qatar, and reaffirms our commitment to upholding human dignity and human rights." "As employers ourselves, we understand that the employment relationship between a domestic worker and their employer has a number of unique elements, and it can get complicated," said Head of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Project Office in Qatar Max Tunon. "This tool will help to provide clarity on what is expected of UN staff who are employers of domestic workers," he added. HE the Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman al-Thani commended the efforts of the ILO and the International Organization for Migration in launching the Code of Conduct for UN Employer of Domestic Workers, pointing out that this code of conduct supports the efforts of the State of Qatar to promote the rights of domestic workers. She further remarked that this code of conduct reinforces the responsibility of employers to ensure that domestic workers are treated fairly and ethically. Highlighting the role of employers, President of the Kenya Domestic Workers Organization Qatar Margaret Nashipia Kabue said "It is important for employers to create strong relationships and friendly working environment with the domestic workers. When a domestic worker feels safe, they can be more focused and happier."

Marking a significant moment in its race towards excellence and quality healthcare, the Primary Health Care Corp (PHCC) on Tuesday launched its Third Corporate Strategic Plan (CSP) under the theme ‘The First Choice for Our Community’s Health’.The programme was held in the presence of HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari and several other dignitaries.Touted as a significant milestone for PHCC, the strategy aligns with the third Qatar National Health Strategy (NHS3) (2024-2030) and the third Qatar National Development Strategy (NDS3) (2024-2030).Addressing the ceremony, PHCC managing director Dr Mariam Ali Abdul Malik unveiled the CSP details for the next seven years noting that the Corporation has witnessed significant developments through its first and second CSPs. “The Corporation continues to address both national and global health challenges, in line with local and global health trends. The scientific studies and reports have shown that primary healthcare systems are the most effective, comprehensive, and equitable in ensuring better health outcomes for communities, compared to other healthcare systems,” she said adding that PHCCC is constantly preparing to face future health challenges in the coming decades, as the health of the population may be negatively affected by changes in lifestyle, especially with technological advancements and the ease of access to everything we need with minimal effort.The speech highlighted the steadfast resilience of Qatar's healthcare system during the Covid-19 pandemic and its impressive performance during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. “Throughout the past decade, PHCC has experienced a dynamic evolution, culminating in its distinguished reputation as a paragon of excellence in delivering top-tier healthcare services to all citizens and residents of Qatar, internationally recognised by the continuous achievement of Accreditation Canada Diamond status,” she said while mentioning the international recognitions won by the Corporation.PHCC, she added, will focus on advancing the delivery of primary healthcare.Assistant Director General for Strategy at PHCC Steven Emery presented an overview of the key achievements attained during the execution of PHCC’s strategy 2019-2023 for each of the six priority areas. He also highlighted key achievements year by year.Earlier, addressing a press conference, he said PHCC's third CSP has been formulated to guide the corporation over the next seven years. “This plan is not just a document, but a commitment to raise the level of healthcare services, enhance access to them, and raise the level of general well-being of communities. PHCC is proud to announce that it has exceeded 90% of its set strategic goals,” he said.While shedding light on the notable achievements, he said six new health centres were opened in strategic locations and the integrated family medicine model was implemented. “In all the health centres the rate of the use of specialised services marked a significant increase. It rose from 53% in 2019 to 70% in 2023. This is in addition to the effective handling and management of 60% of mental health cases within primary care centres,” he explained.Executive Director of Strategy Planning and Health Intelligence Dr Mohammed Ghaith al-Kuwari, said the third CSP focuses on several axes of the health sector such as population health, setting ambitious goals to improve health outcomes, improving the quality of services and facilitating access to them for clients in addition to a renewed focus on sustainability in service delivery.“PHCC will continue to develop its workforce and procedures and use modern technological solutions,” al-Kuwari added.
