Qatar has strongly condemned the Iranian attack targeting two UAE oil tankers belonging to Adnoc while they were crossing the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a grave violation of international law, freedom of maritime navigation and UN Security Council Resolution 2817.
In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s firm rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as leverage and called for the waterway to be reopened unconditionally.
The ministry stressed that freedom of navigation through the vital waterway was an established principle that could not be compromised, warning that the continued closure of the strait undermined the critical interests of regional countries and the global economy.
It also called for an end to Iran’s unjustified aggression against the assets of sisterly countries and reaffirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with the UAE and its support for all measures taken by Abu Dhabi to protect its assets.
