Qatar is continuing mediation between the United States and Iran to bridge differences and establish common ground for a peaceful solution, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Dr Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari said Tuesday, as he called for regional infrastructure to be protected from further attacks.Speaking at the ministry’s weekly press briefing, al-Ansari, who is also Adviser to the Prime Minister, said Qatar had stressed from the outset the need for a peaceful solution and continued to support Pakistan’s mediation efforts.He said the past few days had witnessed several meetings and exchanges of messages between the parties, including contacts in New York during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and others that took place earlier.Efforts to arrange meetings and facilitate the exchange of messages between the parties were continuing, he said.Addressing the wider regional escalation, al-Ansari reiterated Qatar’s strong condemnation of the targeting of infrastructure by any party.He said attacks on infrastructure, energy facilities and vessels served only to harm the interests of people, stressing that the peoples of the region did not deserve to be dragged into the conflict.Infrastructure and vital facilities must be respected amid any regional escalation, he said, adding that threats against them violated the principles of international law and good-neighbourly relations.Al-Ansari acknowledged that any agreement would face obstacles, saying the purpose of mediation was precisely to overcome difficulties and narrow differences between the parties. Meetings and diplomatic contacts were continuing, he added.Asked about the possibility of non-aggression agreements between the Gulf Co-operation Council states and Iran, al-Ansari said the countries of the region had not chosen to become part of the war and had no conflict with Iran.He said Iran had decided to strike countries in the region as a consequence of the war involving Iran, Israel and the United States.Al-Ansari urged Iranian officials to distance both their country and the wider region from the conflict, saying the attacks constituted aggression against sovereign states in the region.He said the GCC states and other countries in the region had long advocated resolving differences through dialogue.Qatar, he said, sought peaceful coexistence between the region’s countries and Iran and remained engaged in negotiations despite having itself been subjected to an Iranian missile attack.Doha had not wavered from its position that dialogue represented the only solution to the crisis, he stressed.Al-Ansari called for a regional security framework founded on coexistence, non-aggression and good-neighbourly relations, saying the first step should be an understanding that regional states would not be targeted in any future escalation.The immediate focus, he said, was on bridging differences and reaching a peaceful solution that would allow regional countries to resume freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz while addressing their security concerns.Turning to Gaza and efforts to move to the second phase, al-Ansari said Qatar had been engaged in the issue from the outset.He referred to a meeting of eight Arab and Islamic countries in New York and more than 12 meetings at ministerial and other levels dealing with Gaza and the Palestinian territories.Qatar had been directly involved in the negotiations and had witnessed the parties coming close to making progress on several occasions, only for the momentum to be reversed, he said.Al-Ansari accused the Netanyahu government of repeatedly seeking to undermine ceasefire efforts, saying that escalation on the ground had repeatedly followed progress in negotiations.He also warned of developments in the West Bank, saying attempts were being made to impose a new reality contrary to the international consensus established since the Oslo Accords.Such developments could not be ignored, he said.Al-Ansari welcomed decisions by countries that had imposed sanctions and other measures over settlement activity in the West Bank, calling for intensified international efforts to halt Israeli violations, particularly actions seeking to alter the status quo in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.He also warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza continued to deteriorate, with humanitarian challenges mounting daily.Qatar, he said, had made its position clear at the UN General Assembly in New York through the address of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and statements by Qatari officials at various meetings, underscoring the centrality of the Palestinian cause.Al-Ansari said Qatar would continue working with its regional partners and the international community to advance a political solution and support the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza.Addressing the economic repercussions of the regional conflict, al-Ansari warned that the consequences extended far beyond energy supplies.Countries in the region supplied the world not only with energy products but also goods vital to food security, petrochemicals, aluminium and other industries, he said. 

Qatar will put mediation, regional de-escalation and the protection of international law at the heart of its participation in the UN General Assembly this month, reaffirming its determination to pursue peaceful solutions despite the crises confronting the region.Adviser to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari said Qatar had completed preparations for high-level participation in the General Assembly’s 81st session in New York.In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), he said the country would continue its mediation efforts despite regional challenges, with an agenda focused on international peace and security, humanitarian assistance and restoring confidence in multilateral co-operation.The gathering, being held under the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All”, comes against a critical international backdrop following regional tensions since February.Dr al-Ansari said Qatari officials would hold a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with counterparts from around the world and representatives of international and regional organisations.The discussions will explore ways to deepen strategic partnerships, expand co-operation and open new avenues for engagement, alongside efforts to ease regional and international tensions and pave the way for stability and sustainable peace.Qatar’s priorities will include promoting dialogue and mediation, upholding international law and the UN Charter, strengthening multilateralism and supporting sustainable development.Ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches the countries and communities most in need will also feature prominently, he said.The agenda builds on Qatar’s record of facilitating negotiations across conflicts, with diplomatic efforts extending from ceasefire talks in Gaza to peace negotiations in Africa and the reunification of families separated by the Russia-Ukraine war.In Gaza, Qatar worked with Egypt and the US to mediate the ceasefire agreement that took effect in January 2025, providing for a phased exchange of hostages and prisoners. That agreement followed the temporary truce brokered in November 2023, which enabled releases and increased humanitarian access. The negotiations illustrated both the practical value of mediation and the difficulty of translating temporary arrangements into a lasting settlement. Background: November 2023 truce, January 2025 agreement.Qatar’s engagement in Africa has similarly combined efforts to bring adversaries together with follow-up negotiations aimed at implementing their commitments.In July 2025, the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s government and the AFC/M23 rebel alliance signed a declaration of principles in Doha, setting out commitments intended to advance a negotiated settlement to the conflict in eastern Congo. Further Doha talks produced arrangements for monitoring a ceasefire. In February 2026, Qatar announced plans for a UN monitoring team to deploy to Uvira, following negotiations on implementing the monitoring mechanism and renewed commitments to a broader peace framework. Continued fighting underscored the challenges facing that process. Alongside these political negotiations, Qatar has pursued humanitarian mediation between Russia and Ukraine, helping children separated by the conflict return to their families.Addressing an international meeting in May 2026, Qatar reported that its efforts had reunited 87 Ukrainian children with their families through more than 14 humanitarian operations conducted in co-ordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross. Doha has also facilitated the return of Russian children to their relatives. Background: Ukrainian children, family reunifications.These initiatives demonstrate how sustained contact between opposing sides can secure humanitarian gains even when a wider political settlement remains elusive.The same emphasis on dialogue was evident at this week’s meeting of the Qatar-Singapore High-Level Joint Committee’s Implementation Monitoring Mechanism in Doha.Both countries expressed serious concern over renewed hostilities involving the US and Iran and stressed the importance of diplomacy in achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution. They also commended Qatar’s sustained efforts to facilitate dialogue and regional de-escalation.Their call for safe, unimpeded and continuous transit through the Strait of Hormuz highlighted the wider stakes of the diplomatic effort, linking regional stability to the security of international shipping and trade.In New York, Qatar’s planned meetings will bring those concerns into a broader international discussion, alongside its stated commitment to keep mediation active, strengthen the international system and ensure humanitarian needs remain central to the response to conflict.

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani on Friday held a phone call with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to discuss bilateral relations and efforts aimed at easing regional tensions. The two sides also exchanged views on mediation efforts being facilitated by Pakistan between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The call focused on coordinating diplomatic efforts to support de-escalation initiatives, with both sides stressing the importance of addressing underlying causes of regional crises through peaceful dialogue. HE Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the need for all parties to engage constructively with ongoing mediation efforts in order to reach a sustainable agreement that would help prevent renewed escalation and contribute to broader regional stability.

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi received a phone call on Monday from  Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mohammad Ishaq Dar.During the call, the two sides discussed the latest regional developments, particularly efforts related to maintaining the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as ongoing initiatives aimed at de-escalation in a manner that enhances regional security and stability.HE the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the State of Qatar's full support for Pakistan's mediation efforts aimed at resolving the crisis through peaceful means. He also stressed the importance of all parties engaging constructively with these efforts to create favorable conditions for advancing negotiations toward a comprehensive agreement that would contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.
