The third Government Communications Forum in Doha has placed a spotlight on the expanding role of women in leading the communications sector, their influence in shaping narratives, engaging audiences, and redefining flexible and inclusive leadership.During a panel discussion, participants shared insights and examples from various sectors, exploring how female leaders are driving tangible change, shaping institutional strategies, and guiding the future of communication.Head of the Government Communications Office’s Semi-Governmental Entities Department, Maryam Mohammed al-Mannai, highlighted Qatar's progress in supporting women, particularly in leadership roles, and attributed this to the sustained support of the country's top leadership and institutional authorities.She noted a significant shift in women's participation in government and semi-government entities in recent years and emphasised the need for practical initiatives – such as advanced human resources (HR) policies and a stimulating work environment-to continue promoting gender balance and empowerment.Al-Mannai added that empowering female leaders requires focused training and capacity-building to enhance leadership skills and prepare women for senior roles, while showcasing success stories as inspiring models across sectors.She emphasised that the Government Communications Office actively highlights women's achievements in fields such as health, sports, and strategic communication, and noted that Qatari women have proven their competence across all sectors.Senior Visit Qatar media and communications manager Dr Buthaina al-Janahi stressed that crafting Qatar's national narrative demands deep intellectual and cultural understanding.She noted that effective storytelling goes beyond merely presenting information, highlighting instead the stories, memories, and values that shape public perception of Qatar.Dr al-Janahi emphasised that national narratives are key to building and refining institutional identities, particularly when communicating with priority local and international stakeholders, and that delivering messages effectively requires diverse tools and methods to suit the target audience.She also highlighted the rapidly evolving communications landscape, marked by high intellectual competition and digital transformation, urging practitioners to adopt innovative approaches and remain flexible in responding to new trends, rather than relying solely on traditional media.Anne Sobel, a writer and creative professional at the US-based streaming platform Netflix, shared her experience in media and entertainment, stressing the importance of maintaining a unique perspective."Success comes from believing in yourself and your personal experiences," she said, noting that an individual's viewpoint stems from a combination of values, beliefs, passions, interests, and life experiences.Sobel added that women's life experiences provide a distinct perspective that can enrich creative content, encouraging them to leverage their personal journeys as a source of inspiration and innovation.The forum underscored the growing impact of women in shaping communication strategies, influencing public engagement, and leading the sector toward more inclusive, innovative, and culturally resonant approaches.  

Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC) has announced the launch of a new cohort of the National Leadership Programme (Class of 2027), comprising a select group of national talents chosen through a rigorous selection process.The cohort has been admitted to QLC’s flagship programmes, including the Executive Leaders Programme, the Rising Leaders Programme, and the Government Leaders Programme (across two groups).The National Leadership Programme aligns with the centre’s mission to develop and advance national leadership capabilities, strengthen managerial and leadership competencies, and support key sectors of the State and sustainable development pathways.QLC organised an orientation session for the newly admitted participants on January 4, dedicating a full day to introducing the centre’s vision, programmes, and their theoretical and practical learning components.The session also featured an overview of the programme roadmap, along with interactive activities designed to foster engagement, collaboration, and team-building among participants.The event included a contribution from QLC alumnus Mohammed Abdulrahim Aljanahi, the primary school principal at Al Awsaj Academy – Qatar Foundation, who shared his leadership journey and emphasised the importance of maximising the learning opportunities and applied challenges embedded in QLC’s programmes.During the open dialogue, QLC general manager Abdulla Mohammed Khalifa Albinali highlighted the importance of cultivating a clear vision, high ambition, and the skills required to respond effectively to a rapidly evolving world.He noted that the establishment of QLC was mandated by an Amiri decision issued by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, reflecting a national vision aimed at preparing competent leaders grounded in national values and capable of generating meaningful impact.He further highlighted that, as conceptualised by QLC, leadership is not defined by positions or titles but by responsibility, impact, and service to the nation.These principles constitute the foundation of QLC’s competency framework, which encompasses leading self, leading others, leading institutions, and serving Qatar. He also emphasised the strategic importance of investing in human capital and the role of conscious leadership in advancing national development priorities.The national programmes witnessed significant interest, with more than 1,200 applicants, from whom 126 participants were selected. These were distributed as follows: 32 participants in the Executive Leaders Programme, 31 participants in the Rising Leaders Programme, and 63 participants across two groups of the Government Leaders Programme.These figures reflect the centre's high level of competitiveness and rigorous evaluation standards throughout the selection process. 

The State of Qatar affirmed that effective global leadership for peace requires comprehensive reform of the United Nations system, fully consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, stressing that mediation remains an indispensable pillar for the peaceful resolution of disputes and the prevention of conflict escalation.This came in a statement delivered by HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during the Security Council's open debate on "Leadership for Peace," held under the agenda item "Maintenance of international peace and security' at UN Headquarters in New York.In her statement, Her Excellency underscored the significance of the selection process for the next Secretary-General of the United Nations and the need to strengthen the Secretary-General's role in the face of unprecedented global challenges. She noted the growing strain on the multilateral system and the declining adherence to the purposes of the United Nations, its Charter, and the principles of international law.She explained that the State of Qatar has remained firmly committed to the UN Charter and has long been a strategic partner of the United Nations, as well as a trusted and credible mediator in advancing the Organization's founding goals and mission. She added that, for more than two decades, Qatar has played a pivotal role in mediation efforts worldwide, working to achieve sustainable and lasting peace in complex conflicts.Her Excellency highlighted Qatar's growing engagement in mediation efforts in recent years, encompassing a wide range of initiatives, including facilitating ceasefires, negotiating prisoner exchanges, supporting inclusive national dialogues, resolving border disputes, and contributing to the conclusion of peace agreements aimed at ending conflicts.She emphasized that the impact of these efforts has been evident across several regions, including the Gaza Strip in the occupied Palestinian territory, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Sudan, Chad, Ukraine, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda, underscoring Qatar's sustained contribution to the promotion of security and stability at both the regional and international levels.Her Excellency also highlighted the State of Qatar's vision regarding the selection of the next Secretary-General, stressing that the Secretary-General must play a pivotal role in shaping the international response to conflicts, strengthening the United Nations' engagement in mediation, and providing decisive leadership in conflict prevention. She further emphasized the importance of proactive support for international mediation through preventive diplomacy, the provision of timely and accurate information to Member States, and the presentation of practical and actionable options to the Security Council to enable early and effective responses to emerging threats.She added that the State of Qatar underscored the importance of upholding mediation as a central tool for the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the prevention of their escalation, calling on the Secretary-General to lead efforts to ensure that mediators from States and other entities are able to operate freely and effectively, without restrictions, negative campaigns, or hostile acts. She stressed that such efforts are fully consistent with Article (33) of the Charter of the United Nations, which calls on parties to any dispute to seek peaceful solutions, including through negotiation and mediation.HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar further emphasized that the incoming Secretary-General must continue to play a pivotal role in preventing conflicts and grave human rights violations by exercising the authority vested in him under Article (99) of the Charter to bring matters that may threaten international peace and security to the attention of the Security Council, and to contribute to shaping its agenda. She also underscored the importance of strengthening preventive diplomacy through the good offices, with a focus on addressing the root causes of conflicts, including through upholding the principles of justice and accountability in conflict resolution.Her Excellency expressed the State of Qatar's welcome of the "UN 80' initiative, reiterating its appreciation to the Secretary-General for launching this constructive effort, which reflects the conviction that the United Nations must become more efficient, accountable, and transparent, and better equipped to meet the aspirations of the world's peoples.She affirmed that the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, together with the selection of the next Secretary-General, should serve as a pivotal moment to advance comprehensive reform of the UN system and to strengthen multilateralism in order to address the challenges of the coming decades.

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani chaired Wednesday the meeting of the Steering Committee for Smart Government and Digital Leadership. The meeting discussed several projects related to digital government and enhancing integration between ministries, government agencies, and public institutions. These projects aim to contribute to achieving the goals of Qatar's national digital transformation and to facilitate services and transactions for individuals and institutions across various sectors. Appropriate decisions were made regarding these projects. The meeting was attended by ministers - members of the committee, along with senior state officials.

His Excellency Minister of Interior, Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani attended on Thursday the graduation ceremony of 13 officers of the first batch of the second-line leadership program at the Police Officers Institute at the Academy's headquarters.During the ceremony, His Excellency handed out certificates to the graduates in the presence of a number of leaders and heads of the country's security and military agencies.The program aimed to prepare a new generation of security leaders capable of contributing to the development of institutions and facing future challenges. The program was implemented in cooperation with the IE University in Spain, which specializes in leadership.

A delegation from the State of Qatar, led by the Qatar Leadership Centre, visited key Rwandan institutions this week as part of a study tour aimed at deepening bilateral ties and exchanging knowledge.The delegation was received by the officials of the Rwanda Cooperation, Office of the Ombudsman, Rwanda Governance Board and National Bank of Rwanda during the visits to the offices.The Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) hosted the group, with Deputy CEO Dr Félicien Usengumukiza highlighting how good governance has played a central role in Rwanda’s social and economic transformation. RGB shared insights into its mandate and the country’s policy-driven development model.At the National Bank of Rwanda (NBR), Governor Soraya Hakuziyaremye welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of evidence-based monetary policy. The NBR team showcased its decision-making process, which includes economic projections, public engagement, and policy debate.The delegation has explored Rwanda’s progress in governance, economic sectors, human capital, aviation & national identity, Rwanda Cooperation said.Both institutions described the visit as a reflection of the growing partnership between Rwanda and Qatar, rooted in mutual respect and a shared commitment to progress.
