Qatar is repositioning its autonomous and electric mobility industry from a series of pilot programmes into a full-scale regional manufacturing and export hub.The shift aligns with a broader national strategy to become a leading destination for advanced transit technologies under the Qatar National Vision 2030, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) noted.The MoT noted that it is coordinating this growth through its five-year Autonomous Vehicle Strategy, which integrates smart transit into the national network. A notable achievement in this strategy is the recent success of driverless robotaxi trials, which reported a 94% success rate during their initial commercial phase, the MoT explained.**media[477264]**Mohammed Jassim al-Shaibani, who is the head of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety at the MoT, recently stated in an interview with Qatar Television that these vehicles are equipped with advanced sensors and LiDAR technology.He noted that these technologies allow the vehicles to monitor their surroundings and make safe driving decisions without human intervention. The project has now progressed to its second phase, where the safety officer previously seated in the vehicle has been removed in favour of remote monitoring, al-Shaibani pointed out.The Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) stated that its free zones are currently acting as a central base for international firms to develop, test, and implement vehicles for both local and overseas markets.The QFZ also noted that companies such as Gaussin from France and Yutong from China, among other global firms, have already established operations in the zones to assemble electric and autonomous vehicles.These assembly units serve a vast regional market that includes Turkey, India, and parts of Africa, reaching more than 2bn people, according to QFZ. To support these activities, QFZ provides a dedicated 1.2km outdoor testing track that simulates real-world environments for vehicle validation.Ensuring that electric vehicles remain operational in Qatar’s extreme heat is a priority for local researchers, the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) stated. In 2022, QEERI partnered with Mowasalat (Karwa) to conduct rigorous battery cell testing to improve performance and safety.The upcoming Autonomous e-Mobility Forum 2026, slated for September 7 to 9 in Doha, will serve as a platform for global experts to discuss these regulatory standards, according to organisers.Qatar’s robust physical infrastructure is being built with autonomous transit in mind, supported by a world-class 5G network that covers 70% of the country, according to official figures.The MoT emphasised that ultimately, these efforts form a core pillar of the Transportation Master Plan for Qatar-2050, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of life for residents.The plan, the ministry added, is expected to generate measurable economic benefits by shortening travel times and lowering traffic accident rates across the country. 

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) and Qatar Society of Engineers today signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of land transport.The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration in R&D in smart transportation, studies, road safety, and relevant laws and legislation.MOT's Assistant Undersecretary for Land Transport Affairs Eng. Abdullah Saif Al Sulaiti, and Chairperson of the Qatar Society of Engineers Eng. Amna Mohammed Al Naama signed the MoU today at MOT's offices.The MOT is strategically supporting innovation in areas of transportation, and cementing collaboration, partnership and expertise exchange in step with national policies and infrastructure development plans, guided by the MOT Strategy, National Development Strategy, and Qatar National Vision 2030.The MoU will contribute to enhancing national talents' expertise in road transportation by developing specialized training and holding workshops, educational sessions, and upskilling programs for capacity-building in mobility innovation. The personnel who perform engineering jobs at MOT’s Land Transport Affairs will also have access to training programs. 

The Ministry of Transport (MOT), in a circular issued Sunday, called on all owners and users of marine vessels, including leisure boats, fishing boats, jet skis, and other similar marine craft, to temporarily stop sailing and carrying out maritime activities, effective from the date of issuance of the circular until further notice, in the interest of public safety. The Ministry exempted vessels subject to international maritime conventions, which continue their operations in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures. MOT also urged everyone to fully comply with the circular, affirming that any updates will be announced in coordination with the competent authorities through official channels. This temporary precautionary measure comes based on coordination with the relevant security authorities.

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has digitised a further 14 maritime transport services, now available electronically through its official website and split between large-vessel transactions and seafarers' affairs.Ten of the new e-services relate to big vessels, covering ship sanitation, permanent and provisional registration, renewal of provisional registration, annual fees, extension certificate, exemption certificate, certificate of seaworthiness, the issuing of an NOL for announcing a navigational warning, and penalties record and payment.The remaining four deal with seafarers' affairs, namely the issuance, renewal, amendment and replacement of the endorsement recognising a GMDSS operator certificate. GMDSS, the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, is an international safety framework mandated by the IMO under the SOLAS convention. Beneficiaries can now apply for any of these services at any time and from anywhere, saving time and effort.MoT Information Systems Department acting director Dr Ahmad Nasser al-Kuwari said automating the new package advances the ministry's wider push for digital transformation across all its services, with the aim of greater efficiency, simpler and more streamlined procedures, and a better user experience. He said this was in keeping with a strategy to modernise the transport industry in step with technological advancement and innovation, and to deliver integrated government services that are simpler and more accessible round the clock.He added that the ministry would continue automating further services to improve the user experience and the quality of life of all beneficiaries, as part of broader national efforts to raise the standard of government services for individuals and businesses, boost administrative efficiency through automation, and foster a more open government with wider participation from all parties.The MoT website already offers a range of land and maritime transport e-services that users can access and apply for at any time and from anywhere.

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has concluded its inspection campaigns on limousine companies and companies providing passenger transportation services via electronic applications.In its press release, the MOT said that the Q1 of 2026 campaigns were carried out in collaboration with relevant Ministry of Interior departments.The inspection campaigns detected 32 violations of the Law No. 8 of 2019 Regulating Road Transport and its Implementing Regulations issued by the Minister of Transport's Decision No. 13 of 2024.The new campaigns covered all areas across Qatar, with particular focus on business, service, and vital areas; something that reflects an expanding crackdown coverage and greater attention to crowded and high-business locations.With such campaigns, the MOT continues its law enforcement effort on the violating companies. It also urges all companies to follow the laws in place and obtain the necessary licenses to be able to do the business legally and avoid accountability.The MOT pays great attention to ensuring that passenger transportation companies follow all applicable laws and meet all safety requirements, while providing the highest quality of service.
