The Land Customs Department at the General Authority of Customs has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 24.39g of narcotic substance (Hashish and Shabu), alongside 30 Lyrica pills.  The Customs officer in charge at Abu Samra Land Border suspected a traveller coming into the country through the land crossing and accordingly ordered the full thorough search of his vehicle.  The traveller was himself subjected to pat-down search at the designated room.  Eventually, the seized contraband materials were found concealed inside his luggage and on his body. 

The Qatari International Search and Rescue Group has become the first Arab international team to train and qualify another Arab team for international classification, after Egypt’s Search and Rescue Team secured a “Medium” level rating from the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), affiliated with the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs.  A Lekhwiya delegation headed by Assistant Commander for Administration and Supply Staff Brigadier Mubarak Sherida al-Kaabi attended the announcement ceremony in Cairo, alongside Egypt’s Assistant Minister of Interior for the civil protection sector Major General Amr Mustafa El-Baily, security leaders from both sides and INSARAG representatives.  On the sidelines, Staff Brig al-Kaabi and Maj Gen El-Baily reviewed co-operation in security training and search and rescue, and discussed ways to develop it further. The Egyptian assistant minister praised the Qatari group’s role as an internationally accredited mentor and stressed the value of continued co-ordination in strengthening the joint Arab search and rescue system. 

 Falconers at this year’s S’hail will be offered workshops in artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D modelling — a first for an exhibition built on one of Qatar’s oldest traditions, and the clearest sign yet of how the show intends to hold the attention of a younger generation as it marks its 10th edition.  The Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition (S’hail 2026) runs from September 8-12 at Katara Cultural Village.  Speaking to Al Rayyan TV, S’hail director Abdulaziz al-Buhaishim al-Sayed said the 2026 edition would introduce specialised workshops in artificial intelligence, 3D modelling and other digital technologies, offering younger generations new ways to connect with a heritage deeply rooted in Qatari culture.  The programme will feature a range of interactive, technology-driven activities designed to engage children and young visitors with the hunting season. A dedicated falconry competition for children will also be held, alongside seminars and events exploring environmental issues and conservation.  S’hail 2026 is expected to welcome new exhibitors from Kazakhstan, Australia and China, while maintaining strong participation from Spain and Russia. Companies from Belgium and the UK specialising in hunting weapons will also take part, alongside exhibitors offering edged weapons, vehicle outfitting and a wide range of hunting equipment and supplies.  Al-Sayed said preparations were focused on attracting high-calibre exhibitors capable of presenting innovative products and responding to the evolving needs of hunters, falconers and outdoor enthusiasts in Qatar.  Several participating companies are preparing to unveil new products at S’hail for the first time, strengthening the exhibition’s position as a launchpad ahead of the hunting and falconry season.  The growing international participation, al-Sayed noted, reflects the reputation S’hail has established over the past decade as one of the region’s leading specialised platforms for hunting, falconry and related industries.  A decade on, the exhibition is designed to show how tradition and innovation can converge — preserving Qatar’s hunting and falconry heritage while opening it to new generations and global expertise. 

The 11th International Istanbul Arabic Book Fair kicked off in Turkiye on Saturday.  Running until Aug. 23, the event is held under the theme "The Story Continues", bringing together over 300 publishing houses from over 30 countries.Qatar's Ministry of Culture is participating with a phenomenal and rich booth, confirming its commitment to supporting the movement of publication and knowledge, as well as projecting Qatari intellectual production in the areas of literature, poetry, thought and arts, in addition to strengthening the presence of Qatari culture in Arab forums.  Syria is participating as a guest of honor, alongside Algeria, Oman, Morocco, Kuwait and representatives of international civil society organizations, as well as dignitaries hailing from the domains of culture, art and politics.  In his opening remarks, President of the International Association of Arab Book Publishers Mehdi Al Jumaili said the fair isn't only confined to showcasing or selling books but also serves as a platform to debate issues that face the Islamic nation.  Dr. Yasin Aktay, former advisor to the Turkish president, said the theme of this event spans the story of a nation that has been unified, hoping that the fair would help strengthen people-to-people bonds in the Islamic world on a variety of stages. Secretary General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), Sheikh Dr. Ali Muhyiddin Al Qaradaghi, called for keeping the issue of the Palestinian people at the forefront and funneling aid to the Gaza Strip through all possible means.  Reading is substantially important in people's lives, Al Qaradaghi underscored, stating that what matters more is to intensify events and contests related to reading, translation and supporting publishing houses.  The expo is the largest one beyond the Arab world and receives vast approval from Cairo-based Arab publishers. It intends to be the foremost platform that assembles those who operate in publishing and academic culture.The fair dedicates a space for students, journalists and researchers from various nationalities and those interested in the Arabic language.  As part of the activities, publishers, authors, academics, translators, graphic designers and representatives of the publishing industry are converging in the Copyright and Translation Rights section to discuss new projects, copyright and international cooperation.Also participating is the TULIA (Turkish Literature in Arabic) project, with the intent of delivering Turkish literature to a broader range of folks around the Arab world and accelerating the translation from Turkish into Arabic.  At the booth dedicated to this project, Turkish writers and translators assemble to familiarize visitors with the book database translated from Turkish into Arabic, along with projecting the accomplished works and activities in this field.

Qatar has strongly condemned the Iranian attack targeting two UAE oil tankers belonging to Adnoc while they were crossing the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a grave violation of international law, freedom of maritime navigation and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s firm rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as leverage and called for the waterway to be reopened unconditionally. The ministry stressed that freedom of navigation through the vital waterway was an established principle that could not be compromised, warning that the continued closure of the strait undermined the critical interests of regional countries and the global economy. It also called for an end to Iran’s unjustified aggression against the assets of sisterly countries and reaffirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with the UAE and its support for all measures taken by Abu Dhabi to protect its assets. 

 The National Project for Reducing and Controlling the Population of the Invasive Myna Bird in Qatar continues to achieve tangible results in limiting the spread of the invasive species and reducing its potential impact on the country’s ecosystems and biodiversity, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC)’s Wildlife Development Department has announced.  The ministry said the project’s efforts resulted in the capture of 12,844 invasive myna birds between January and July 2026, bringing the total number of birds captured since the launch of the project to 61,999.  The campaign has also expanded its geographical coverage, with 849 cages deployed across 58 locations.  The increased number and wider distribution of cages are aimed at strengthening monitoring and control operations in targeted areas and improving the effectiveness of efforts to manage the bird’s population.  The MoECC said that efforts to combat the invasive myna bird are continuing according to a carefully planned programme designed to limit its spread, protect native species and biodiversity, and maintain the natural balance of ecosystems.  The ministry further explained that the myna bird is considered an invasive species that can place pressure on native species through competition for food resources and nesting sites.  Its presence can also have potential effects on local plants and birds and on the overall ecological balance.  Meanwhile, the Wildlife Development Department continues to carry out monitoring and control operations while expanding the distribution of cages in targeted locations. 

Qatar has categorically denied claims that it is detaining Iranian pilots, saying the airmen died after their aircraft violated Qatari airspace and that its search and rescue teams recovered the remains of one of them.In a post on X, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson HE Dr Majed al-Ansari said Qatar was surprised the claims had surfaced at this particular moment, amid diplomatic efforts and initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.Contact was established with the pilots concerned after they violated Qatari airspace and after the trajectory of the targeting had been confirmed, he said. Rules of engagement were followed and attempts made to communicate with them, but no response was received. The necessary measures were then taken to defend Qatari territory in accordance with international law, a sequence, he added, that was set out at the time through official channels.Qatar's search and rescue teams, which he described as possessing world-class expertise and capabilities, carried out their duties to the fullest in searching for the remains of the pilots.Qatar subsequently contacted the Iranian side to co-ordinate the handover of the remains of one pilot who had been found, in line with the relevant provisions of international humanitarian law.Qatar also invited an Iranian team to visit the country in April to be briefed on the details of the search and rescue operations. The Iranian side has yet to respond to that invitation, al-Ansari said.

Qatar Post has taken a decisive step in its digital transformation strategy by partnering with India Post and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to launch a new remittance service, enabling near real-time transfers from Doha to India. The initiative, unveiled during celebrations of India’s 80th Independence Day in Qatar yesterday, is expected to reshape the remittance market by offering institutional trust and competitive value to thousands of Indian workers and their families, according to Sandeep Kumar, chargé d'affaires of the Indian embassy in Doha.Addressing key dignitaries and officials during the India Utsav 2026 celebrations at LuLu Hypermarket Al Gharrafa, Kumar explained that the service enables customers in Qatar to send money transfers to beneficiaries in India via the ‘PosTransfer’ service powered by the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Kumar further pointed out that the service integrates the UPI with the trusted networks of both postal systems, noting that customers can remit between QR10 and QR4,000 at a nominal fee, with funds credited almost instantly to UPI linked accounts in India.Kumar noted that with more than 800,000 Indians residing in Qatar, establishing a credible remittance channel “makes strong commercial sense.” He continued to explain that while other exchange systems exist, the postal partnership adds institutional reliability, particularly for low income workers who depend on secure and transparent transfers.He emphasised that credibility and reliability are the strongest features of the mechanism. For workers in the Industrial Area who may lack access to mobile banking, the ability to transact in cash or card at a Qatar Post branch provides a secure alternative, he stated.According to Kumar, the system is fully integrated with UPI IDs, ensuring recipients in India receive SMS notifications without needing to visit a post office.Kumar also pointed out that exchange rates are managed transparently by state institutions, ensuring competitive value for senders and recipients alike. He described the initiative as a welcome step that reflects the strength of bilateral ties and a shared commitment to financial inclusion.He noted that the launch of the new initiative on India’s Independence Day added symbolic weight to the occasion, reinforcing the role of financial services in deepening economic and social connections between Qatar and India.Mohammed Zayed and Shenfeer Kalliyath of Qatar Post said the partnership strengthens the institution’s digital transformation strategy while addressing the needs of the large Indian community in Qatar. Kalliyath highlighted that India Post’s extensive nationwide network adds value, particularly for workers from lower income backgrounds and remote regions. Zayed added that he will propose branch expansion in the Industrial Area to ensure accessibility for resident workers and communities that rely heavily on remittances.State-run Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported that the launch of the service comes within the framework of Qatar Post's efforts to develop its service system and expand the scope of financial solutions it offers, keeping pace with customer needs and the rapid developments witnessed in the postal and financial services sector.“Furthermore, the cooperation with India Post and UPU reflects the importance of international partnerships in developing postal and financial services and expanding their scope. “This falls under Qatar Post's strategy to leverage global expertise and postal networks to provide practical and reliable solutions that serve customers, strengthen the ties between Qatar and India, and facilitate money transfers for Indian expatriates residing in the country,” QNA added.

Qatar Foundation for Social Work participated in the 35th session of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, held at the UN headquarters in Geneva.The participation is part of Qatar Social Work's endeavor to enhance civil society participation in international mechanisms concerning the rights of persons with disabilities, and its capacity as an organisation that holds consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC),The Foundation's participation saw an active presence in the session's proceedings, which included the opening session and the sessions dedicated to discussing the State of Qatar, alongside the Chief Executive Officer delivering a statement during the special session for civil society organizations.CEO of the Qatar Social Work, Rashid Mohammed Al Hamda Al Nuaimi stated that the Foundation's participation in the session reflects the importance of civil society presence in international forums concerned with the rights of persons with disabilities, and enhances opportunities for communication and expertise exchange with relevant international bodies and organizations.He added that this participation allows the Foundation to expand fields of international cooperation and partnerships, and to benefit from specialized expertise and practices, thereby supporting the role of civil society in advocacy and capacity-building related to the rights of persons with disabilities and UN mechanisms.On the sidelines of the session, Al Nuaimi met with HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah.During the meeting, they reviewed the participation of the Foundation and its affiliated centers in the Human Rights Council's proceedings, the organization of side events in cooperation with the Permanent Mission, and its role in topics and draft resolution projects related to its fields of work.In the same context, the Foundation's delegation discussed with President of the International Disability Alliance and President of the Arab Organization of Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Nawaf Kabbara opportunities for cooperation in supporting the role of civil society in the field of disability, capacity building in advocacy and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and UN mechanisms, alongside enhancing cooperation opportunities and exchanging expertise and best practices.The Foundation continues its efforts to strengthen international partnerships and activate the role of civil society in supporting the rights of persons with disabilities through participation in international forums and developing fields of cooperation and capacity building. 

The State of Qatar has condemned the escalation of Israeli settler attacks in the occupied West Bank, including systematic violence against civilians, considering it a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, and an extension of the heinous crimes committed against the Palestinian people.In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that these blatant crimes reflect the occupation government's approach of empowering settlers to commit further attacks under the protection of the Israeli army and security apparatuses. In this context, it called upon the international community to take urgent action to provide protection for the defenseless Palestinian people and to hold those responsible for these horrific crimes accountable.The Ministry reiterated the State of Qatar's unwavering position regarding the justice of the Palestinian cause, the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.  

Qatar Chamber has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering persons with disabilities in the labor market, strengthening the private sector's role in driving Qatar's inclusive and sustainable development. HE Chairman of Qatar Chamber Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani said this approach is gaining increasing importance, particularly as Qatar prepares to host the Fourth Global Disability Summit 2028 in Doha. He commended Qatar's ongoing efforts to advance the rights of persons with disabilities, empower them, and promote their effective inclusion across all areas of society. HE Sheikh Khalifa emphasized that hosting the 2028 Summit reflects Qatar's firm commitment to promoting equal opportunities and reinforces its position as a leading global partner in human development. By helping align international visions and launching high-impact initiatives, Qatar seeks to safeguard dignity and transform disability-related challenges into meaningful opportunities for investment in human capital at both the national and international levels, he said. His Excellency stressed that the Qatari private sector is a key partner in efforts to integrate and empower persons with disabilities, citing the importance of establishing an integrated ecosystem that extends beyond hiring. This includes comprehensive training and rehabilitation, skills development, workplace accessibility, human resources readiness, and ongoing support to ensure long-term, sustainable employment. "The Chamber has adopted several initiatives aimed at developing the skills and capabilities of people with disabilities. This reflects a significant shift from traditional support and care toward a more comprehensive approach focused on economic empowerment, capacity building, sustainable employment, and enabling persons with disabilities to actively contribute to the national development process," His Excellency added. HE the Chairman of Qatar Chamber also highlighted the Chamber's commitment to strengthening cooperation with relevant organizations, including the Volunteer Initiative for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities to bridge communication between these entities and private-sector companies. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness on providing suitable job opportunities, leveraging the capabilities and skills of people with disabilities, and encouraging companies to build more inclusive and sustainable work environments.
