His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani held a meeting in Doha Tuesday with Ethiopia’s State Minister for Political and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hadera Abera Admassu. They discussed co-operation and relations between the countries and ways to support and strengthen them, in addition to issues of common interest.  

Ten Qatari energy shipments remain unable to transit the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Tuesday, as the waterway’s closure continues to weigh on the country’s oil and gas exports and ripple through global energy markets.His Excellency Dr Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari, Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the suspended shipments reflect the most significant operational challenge Qatar faces from the ongoing closure even as the country’s domestic supply chains and commodity stockpiles have remained intact.“Since the beginning of the crisis, and despite the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Qatar’s supply chains, including for communities, have not faced any shortage,” al-Ansari told reporters at a media briefing.He noted that Qatar had maintained strategic reserves and developed alternative supply arrangements to protect domestic needs, but acknowledged that export disruption on this scale carried broader consequences.“The biggest challenge we now face, however, concerns the export of energy-related products, such as oil and gas, and the effect this is having on energy prices worldwide. We are currently undertaking special preparations, but a prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz will complicate supply chains globally,” he explained.Earlier this month, two Qatari tankers managed to pass through the strait under regional coordination. The LNG carrier Al Kharaitiyat departed Ras Laffan on May 10 bound for Port Qasim in Pakistan, becoming the first Qatari LNG tanker to transit the strait since the start of the US-Israel war on Iran.A second tanker, Mihzem, followed the next day, also heading to Pakistan, according to a Reuters report. Al-Ansari cautioned, however, that the passage of those two vessels did not signal a return to normal conditions through the strait.Tuesday’s briefing took place against the backdrop of public remarks by US President Donald Trump, who said he had spoken with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and other Gulf leaders before deciding to hold off on a planned military strike against Iran.Al-Ansari declined to comment on HH the Amir’s private conversations with international leaders but emphasised Qatar’s position had been clearly conveyed to its partners in the US.“We have communicated our position to our partners in the US, emphasising the region’s desire to avoid being drawn into a war again. Our priority is to stave off any escalation that could immediately impact the people of the region as a whole,” he stressed.Al-Ansari also lauded Pakistan for playing an effective role as a peace broker and said Qatar’s leadership-level engagement with the mediation effort was reflected in ongoing communications with regional and international counterparts.Speaking on the Strait of Hormuz, al-Ansari reaffirmed that any attempt to restrict freedom of navigation through the waterway would be contrary to international law and that Qatar does not support any arrangement that would alter the strait’s current status.Al-Ansari also addressed Qatar’s relations with Iran, saying Doha would maintain “good-neighbourly relations” while acknowledging that Iran’s conduct during the conflict had strained those ties.“The people of Iran, like others in the region, deserve to live in peace and prosperity. They should not be affected by war and conflict, as they are closely connected to the neighbouring countries across the Gulf,” he said. 

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani met Monday with Uzbekistan Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov, who is visiting the country.  The two sides discussed bilateral relations and means to enhance and develop them. The meeting also addressed the latest regional developments, particularly those related to the ceasefire between the US and Iran as well as ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions in support of regional security and stability.  The PM underscored the importance of all parties engaging constructively in ongoing mediation efforts, noting that such engagement would help address the root causes of the crisis through dialogue and peaceful means, and contribute to achieving a sustainable agreement that prevents further escalation.

Qatar is maintaining active communication with all concerned international and regional parties, including the United States, to monitor developments and support efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the ongoing crisis, the country's top foreign ministry spokesman said Tuesday.Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' weekly media briefing, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson Dr Majed bin Mohamed al-Ansari threw Qatar's full weight behind Pakistan's mediation efforts, describing them as a critical pathway toward de-escalation. He cautioned against drawing premature conclusions about the outcome of current negotiations, noting that Gulf states, including Qatar, are in near-daily contact with various stakeholders given the crisis's direct impact on regional security and stability."The international community is backing these efforts and remains hopeful for their success," he said.On Iran, al-Ansari revealed that during the most recent call between His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Qatar urged Tehran to halt its attacks on countries in the region and pursue a peaceful solution. He added that beyond that call, there has been no official direct communication between Qatar and Iran.Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, al-Ansari issued a stark warning that any disruption or closure of the vital waterway would transform the crisis from a regional into a global one, given its centrality to energy supplies and international trade."The consequences would be felt not only in energy markets but also in households and essential services worldwide, even in countries thousands of kilometres away," he said. He stressed that keeping the strait open is a shared international responsibility, reaffirming Qatar's commitment to its role as a reliable global energy partner and its continued coordination to ensure maritime security and market stability.Al-Ansari praised the Qatari Armed Forces for protecting the country during hostilities that preceded the ceasefire, while reiterating support for international efforts to consolidate the truce and achieve a comprehensive settlement. He cautioned, however, that it remains too early to predict the long-term sustainability of the ceasefire, as this depends on the commitment of the parties involved. Should an agreement prove elusive, he said, Qatar supports extending the ceasefire rather than risking a return to escalation, warning that renewed conflict would have far-reaching consequences for regional populations and the global economy.On Qatar-Pakistan ties, al-Ansari described the relationship as historic and strategic, rooted in long-standing brotherhood and extensive bilateral co-operation. He stressed that developing Qatar's defence partnerships is a continuous priority under all circumstances and part of a broader policy of diversifying international relations, not a response to any specific crisis.Turning to Syria, he reaffirmed Qatar's continued support for the Syrian people, noting that Doha was among the first countries to back the path toward stability there, with bilateral relations now advancing across political and economic dimensions.On Lebanon, al-Ansari condemned violations and attacks that have resulted in casualties and mass displacement, welcoming the ceasefire as an initial step toward de-escalation. He called for full adherence to the truce and a clear international stance against any violations, expressing hope that ongoing efforts would lead to a lasting agreement. He stressed that all regional crises must ultimately be resolved through negotiation. 

His Excellency the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi met separately Saturday with Bolivia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Fernando Aramayo, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, the Presidential Envoy and Senior Adviser for Africa at the US Department of State Massad Boulos, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vahan Kostanyan, Venezuela’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrea Corao Faria, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Mission in Libya Hanna Tetteh, and Chief Adviser to the President of Brazil Celso Amorim, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. During the meetings, they discussed the co-operation, relations and ways to support and strengthen them. They also discussed the latest developments in the region and several topics of common interest.
