Qatar Charity (QC), through its branch in Tanzania, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the First Vice-President’s Office of Zanzibar to strengthen co-operation in implementing humanitarian and development initiatives for persons with disabilities.

The partnership aims to empower them, promote their social and economic inclusion, and improve their quality of life.

The MoU was signed by acting QC country director in Tanzania Syed Shujaat Ali Shah and Permanent Secretary at the First Vice-President’s Office of Zanzibar Maryam Juma Abdulla.

The MoU establishes a framework for developing and implementing programmes and projects in humanitarian assistance, social welfare, livelihoods, economic empowerment, accessibility, capacity building, and community awareness.

It also lays the foundation for future joint initiatives and projects across the islands.

Under its “Ibsar” Initiative, Qatar Charity implemented a specialised eye care and surgery campaign in Zanzibar, benefiting almost 3,900 people, distributed more than 415 prescription eyeglasses, and performed 404 cataract surgeries.
