Qatar Charity distributes aid to refugees and IDPs in Mali

Qatar Charity has distributed food assistance and hygiene kits to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Mali, in coordination with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees.The initiative included the distribution of 450 food baskets and hygiene supplies, benefiting 320 refugee families and 130 IDP families in the Baganda camp on the outskirts of Bamako. The effort aims to alleviate hardship and improve living conditions for vulnerable communities.The distribution was carried out in the presence of Hamad bin Muazzi al-Shammari, acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Qatar in Mali; Pierre Camara, UNHCR’s Representative in Mali; and Said Zoulgami, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Mali branch. Al-Shammari emphasised that the initiative reflects Qatar’s commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and easing the suffering of those most in need, noting that Qatar will continue to provide assistance to promote stability in the region.Camara expressed appreciation for the fruitful co-operation between UNHCR and its partners, praising Qatar’s positive role in supporting refugees and displaced persons. Zoulgami affirmed that Qatar Charity will continue implementing impactful projects in Mali to improve living conditions for beneficiaries. It is worth noting that Qatar Charity signed a strategic co-operation protocol with UNHCR last month in Bamako, Mali, to bolster humanitarian response and provide vital support to refugees, IDPs, and host communities across the country. The milestone agreement builds on a longstanding partnership between the two organisations, spanning key sectors like protection, education, water and sanitation, livelihoods, housing, and social cohesion.

Qatar Charity's emergency food security project launched in Yemen

In a bid to stave off famine and save lives, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched an emergency food security project in Yemen, backed by donors from Qatar.The initiative aims to rescue thousands of vulnerable families amid what is described as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.The project kicked off in Taiz Governorate, targeting 1,780 families, and will soon expand to Al Hudaydah Governorate with a similar number, bringing the total beneficiaries to 3,560 families — around 25,000 people.Under the project, each family will receive three food baskets sufficient for four and a half months, containing essential staples such as wheat, rice, sugar, oil, and legumes. The distribution is being carried out in co-ordination with the Food Security Cluster and local authorities to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and fragile communities.This intervention comes at a critical juncture as many international organisations have withdrawn, and relief programmes have ground to a halt, heightening famine risks across several Yemeni governorates, a QC statement said Wednesday. Yemen has endured over a decade of conflict that shattered infrastructure, wiped out livelihoods, and was compounded by climate disasters devastating agriculture—pushing millions to the brink of famine.In a joint statement issued last October, more than 30 international and local organisations warned that Yemen faces the world’s third-largest food crisis, with half the population struggling with hunger and half of all children under five suffering from chronic malnutrition. The statement projected that by early next year, over 18mn people will experience acute food insecurity, including 41,000 at risk of famine.Beneficiaries expressed profound relief. Hammoud Saeed Masad, a displaced father from Taiz, said: "I fled with my family because of the war. Despite my age and illness, I work for a meagre wage to feed my children. Sometimes we sleep without dinner. This aid is life-saving. Thank you to the generous people of Qatar." Samia Ahmed, shared: "I often go to bed without food. This basket brought me immense joy, and I will pray with all my heart for the generous donors."

Qatar Charity, Unicef launch hygiene and nutrition projects in Pakistan

As part of its humanitarian efforts to assist communities impacted by natural disasters, Qatar Charity (QC) has signed a Contingency Project Co-operation Agreement (CPCA) with Unicef Pakistan.The agreement aims to strengthen emergency response systems and ensure the timely delivery of relief services during crises across the country.The partnership focuses on implementing Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions alongside Nutrition services during emergencies, with a strong emphasis on supporting vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.Under this collaboration, QC and Unicef launched a Nutrition in Emergencies initiative in four districts of Punjab: Rajanpur, Jhang, Muzaffargarh, and Multan, to support those affected by the 2025 floods. The initiative seeks to improve access to treatment for acutely malnourished children as well as pregnant and lactating women.The programme includes the provision of micronutrient supplements for children aged 6–59 months and breastfeeding women, along with counselling on maternal nutrition, nurturing care, early childhood development, and Infant and Young Child Feeding practices. It also incorporates capacity building, co-ordination, and information management to strengthen emergency nutrition systems.A WASH emergency project has been activated to assist flood-affected communities. It aims to provide climate-resilient sanitation facilities for 20,000 people, including toilets, bathing areas, and washing points designed to be culturally sensitive, gender-appropriate and disability-inclusive.Additionally, 100,000 people will benefit from improved awareness of key hygiene practices, disaster risk reduction messaging, and the effective use of hygiene kits. Furthermore, 5,000 children will gain access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities in 20 schools, 10 temporary learning centres, 10 child-friendly safe spaces and 10 health facilities.QC noted that this partnership represents a significant step toward enhancing Pakistan’s preparedness for natural disasters and improving protection for vulnerable populations, ensuring a more effective and timely emergency response.

Over the past three months, QC’s office in Gambia completed 28 solar-powered wells in 28 villages, benefiting about 8,400 people. The office also launched six sheep-farming projects and five poultry projects, distributed 62 sewing machines, set up 26 fruit and vegetable stalls, and provided three motorbikes, supporting 102 low-income families. Social and educational efforts included distributing 90 blood sugar monitors, 11 school bag and uniform provision projects, 15 bicycles for orphans, building a home for a mother of orphaned children, and constructing a mosque covering 80 sqm.

Qatar Charity (QC) has completed a new round of food assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Gaza, distributing 26,000 food baskets that benefited around 130,000 people.The initiative was funded by generous donors in Qatar through the campaign "Labbeh Gaza: Commitment and Solidarity".QC said the aid aims to ease the severe humanitarian crisis and improve food security for families affected by the blockade and two years of the war.Gaza continues to face acute shortages of essential supplies, with the UN declaring a widespread famine in August, the first ever in the Middle East. According to UN agencies, over 500,000 people are trapped in famine conditions, while 91% of Gaza's population, around 1.95mn people, suffers from extreme food insecurity, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).Each basket contains basic food supplies sufficient for a family for about a month.Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, calling the assistance "a timely lifeline" and "a message of solidarity from hearts that never forget." Qatar Charity distributes school bags in Gaza

Qatar Charity (QC), through the support of donors in the country, has distributed 45,000 school bags to children in Gaza as part of its campaign 'Labbeh Gaza: Commitment and Solidarity'.The project, titled “Back to Class,” also focuses on rehabilitating damaged classrooms to create a safe learning environment and offering incentives to teachers to improve their living conditions.Some 25% of the targeted classrooms have been completed out of a total of 60 scheduled for rehabilitation, and the next phase will see the distribution of teacher incentives. Ultimately, thousands of students and educators are expected to benefit from this project.According to international estimates, more than 650,000 children in Gaza remain deprived of their basic right to education. Reports from Unicef and UNRWA reveal that 95% of schools in Gaza have been destroyed or severely damaged, leaving nearly 500 out of 564 schools unusable.QC continues its humanitarian interventions in Gaza. Qatar Charity launches 8th edition of 'Future Writers' project

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched the eighth edition of its flagship literary project, “Future Writers”, dedicated to discovering and nurturing creative writing talents among students across all educational levels. Qatar Charity, OCHA host dialogue on humanitarian accountability

Qatar Charity (QC), in partnership with the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), organised a high-level panel discussion titled ‘Building a Shared Vision for Humanitarian Accountability’ on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development, held in Doha from November 4-6. The session underscored the critical importance of enhancing accountability in humanitarian work. Discussions focused on resource-conscious humanitarian response, ensuring that limited aid reaches the most vulnerable through transparent, people-centred approaches that uphold dignity and address real needs. The panel also emphasised the centrality of localisation, empowering local actors and communities to lead humanitarian action, as a cornerstone for trust, relevance, and sustainability. It further explored ways to integrate development efforts into humanitarian response to support recovery and resilience, paving the way for a dignified life through principled humanitarian action. This session took place at a pivotal moment, as the Humanitarian Impact Forum prepares for its first high-level meeting in 2026, which will be co-organised by Qatar Charity and OCHA. The forum seeks to redefine, measure, and achieve impact in humanitarian response. Yousuf bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity, and Joyce Msuya, assistant secretary general for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, United Nations opened the session. Al-Kuwari emphasised the urgency of the topic, stating: “We gather at a time when the humanitarian landscape is facing unprecedented challenges. Crises are growing in number and complexity, while resources and trust are under increasing strain. In such circumstances, humanitarian accountability is no longer a principle, it is a collective responsibility that gives our work meaning and integrity.”

Qatar Charity in co-operation with Nigeria’s Katsina State Government, has implemented a variety of income-generating projects, economically empowering 160 individuals, including women, orphans, and vulnerable groups.The initiative aims to restore dignity, create opportunities, and enable beneficiaries to achieve economic independence. The implementation of these projects coincides with the upcoming Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled to take place in Doha from November 4 to 6. The summit aims to reaffirm global commitment to social development, address existing gaps, accelerate efforts to eradicate poverty, promote full employment and decent work, and achieve social inclusion.The income-generating projects included the distribution of 100 sewing machines, 20 passenger tricycles, 20 cargo tricycles, and 20 grinding machines, benefiting individuals from across the state.Beneficiaries were nominated by the state government and verified by Qatar Charity using a rigorous process that prioritised vulnerability, business skills, and readiness. Speaking at the ceremony, Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, described the initiative as more than material support, emphasising its role in restoring dignity and creating opportunities for vulnerable citizens. He urged beneficiaries to use the items wisely to start small businesses, generate income, support their families, and improve their livelihoods through hard work and discipline.“The empowerment items are more than material support – they are tools for transformation and steps toward economic independence,” governor Radda stated. Governor Radda acknowledged Qatar Charity Nigeria’s critical role in humanitarian work across Katsina State and Nigeria. “Your work is planting seeds of change, and we are deeply grateful,” he said, pledging to expand such initiatives to empower every orphan, widow, and vulnerable person in the state.Assem Abu al-Shaer, country director of Qatar Charity’s Nigeria office, emphasised the transformative impact of the empowerment items, noting that each piece of equipment will help beneficiaries generate income and create opportunities for others.
