The General Secretariat of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) has honoured Qatar Charity (QC) in the non-profit institutions category for its housing initiatives delivered by its Alaqraboon Centre for families in Qatar.

The Secretariat presented the recognition during the fourth Gulf Housing Week in Bahrain.

The honour recognises Alaqraboon Centre’s efforts to develop practical housing solutions and implement initiatives that address social needs, strengthen family stability, and improve quality of life.

The honouring took place during the ceremony announcing the results of the seventh GCC Housing Award, 2026, held under the theme Integrated Services Housing Project Enhancing Quality of Life.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi presented the commemorative shield and certificate to Alaqraboon Centre Executive Director Faisal Rashid al-Fehaida, in the presence of HE the Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi.

The recognition highlights Alaqraboon Centre’s contribution of more than QR11mn towards housing support for low-income families in Qatar.

It also underscores the importance of co-operation between government bodies, civil society institutions and non-profit organisations in promoting family and social stability and advancing sustainable development.

“This honour reflects the humanitarian and social role of Qatar Charity’s Alaqraboon Centre,” al-Fehaida said. “Through targeted initiatives and sustainable solutions, the Centre helps meet the housing needs of low-income families in Qatar, strengthen their stability and improve their quality of life.”

“It also underscores the importance of further strengthening co-operation and partnerships across sectors and developing sustainable community-based housing initiatives,” he said. “These efforts can create a lasting positive impact on families and communities while advancing housing solutions that meet the needs of families facing financial hardship.”

In May 2025, Qatar Charity was honoured at an official ceremony held in Kuwait during the 23rd GCC Housing Ministers Meeting.

Recognised in the private-sector and charitable-organisations category, the QC received the award in appreciation of its contributions and initiatives in Qatar’s housing sector, supporting social and charitable objectives.

These efforts include covering rental costs for low-income families and implementing the “Renovation” project, which repairs old homes and provides suitable furniture to create healthier living environments.

In September 2025, Qatar Charity was also honoured at a ceremony in Kuwait alongside ministerial meetings of GCC civil service, labour, and social affairs authorities.

The organisation received an honorary shield recognising its position as one of Qatar’s leading civil society organisations in the social and humanitarian sectors, its outstanding charitable and social work, and its tangible positive impact locally and internationally.
