Qatar Charity (QC) has begun performing 250 cataract surgeries and distributing prescription glasses and medicines to patients in El Ghaire, Moudjeria, and Legrane, Mauritania.

 

 

The initiative is being implemented in co-operation with Mauritania’s National Programme for Blindness Control and co-ordinated with the Boullate Organisation for Social Solidarity and Development, the Afaq Association for Culture, Development and Awareness, and Legrane Municipality.

 

 

The launch was attended by Abdel Hadi al-Khayarin, acting charge d’affaires at Qatar’s embassy in Mauritania; Mohamed Abdallah Sid Habib, district governor (Hakem) of Guerou Department; El Hacen Taleb Issa, mayor of El Ghaire; and several civil society representatives.

 

 

Omer Abdelaziz Mohamed, director of Qatar Charity’s Mauritania Branch, said the eye care initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to serving people and easing the suffering of vulnerable communities.

 

 

Al-Khayarin said the initiative reflects the strong ties between Qatar and Mauritania and their shared values of solidarity and humanitarian service.

 

 

Issa said El Ghaire is proud to host an initiative that demonstrates the close relationship between the people of Qatar and Mauritania.

 

 

Habib highlighted its positive impact on patients’ lives and its role in promoting volunteerism and humanitarian service.
