The Qatari International Search and Rescue Group has become the first Arab international team to train and qualify another Arab team for international classification, after Egypt’s Search and Rescue Team secured a “Medium” level rating from the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), affiliated with the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
A Lekhwiya delegation headed by Assistant Commander for Administration and Supply Staff Brigadier Mubarak Sherida al-Kaabi attended the announcement ceremony in Cairo, alongside Egypt’s Assistant Minister of Interior for the civil protection sector Major General Amr Mustafa El-Baily, security leaders from both sides and INSARAG representatives.
On the sidelines, Staff Brig al-Kaabi and Maj Gen El-Baily reviewed co-operation in security training and search and rescue, and discussed ways to develop it further. The Egyptian assistant minister praised the Qatari group’s role as an internationally accredited mentor and stressed the value of continued co-ordination in strengthening the joint Arab search and rescue system.
