 A delegation from the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) participated in a ceremony held to announce that the search and rescue team of the General Directorate of Civil Protection at Egypt’s ministry of interior had obtained international classification at the “Medium” level from the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), affiliated with the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).  The delegation was headed by Lekhwiya assistant commander (Administration and Supply) Staff Brigadier Mubarak Sherida al-Kaabi.  This achievement reflects the outcomes of joint co-operation in the field of search and rescue, with the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group contributing to the training and qualification of the Egyptian team in accordance with approved international standards.  Accordingly, the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group became the first Arab international team to train and qualify another Arab team to achieve international classification.  The ceremony was attended by Egypt’s Assistant Minister of Interior Major-General Amr Mustafa El-Baily, along with security leaders from both sides and INSARAG representatives.  On the sidelines of the announcement ceremony, al-Kaabi held a meeting with El-Baily.  During the meeting, they reviewed aspects of co-operation in the fields of security training and search and rescue, and discussed ways to further enhance and develop this co-operation.  El-Baily commended the prominent role of the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group, as an internationally accredited mentor, in training and qualifying the Egyptian team to obtain international certification.  He also emphasised the importance of continued co-ordination and co-operation in strengthening the joint Arab search and rescue system. –

Former Liverpool star Mohamed Salah on Thursday signed a two-year contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor after leaving the Premier League giants at the end of his contract.The 34-year-old Egyptian international reached "a two-year agreement" with the club on the Black Sea coast who will compete in the Europa League play-off round at the end of August.The second-highest-paid player in the Premier League last season, Salah will earn 17mn euros ($19.6mn) per season in addition to bonuses, a record for the Turkish league, his new club said.Salah will also receive a 20 percent share of revenue from sales of jerseys and merchandise bearing his name.The Egypt captain was welcomed as a hero by thousands of fans in the northeastern city of Trabzon and is set to take part in a signing ceremony with supporters at Trabzonspor's stadium later Thursday."I am really happy... and looking forward to training with the team. Everywhere I go I always win or try to win something. Hopefully we can do something in the league and in Europe as well," Salah, who will wear the number 10 shirt, said on Wednesday.Salah has previously played in Egypt, Switzerland, Italy, and England.Salah netted 257 goals for Liverpool in 442 appearances in all competitions during his nine-year spell, making him the third top goalscorer in the club's history, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.He also scored 193 Premier League goals, 191 of them for the Reds, putting him fourth in the all-time list behind English trio Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.Salah was far from his best in a struggling Liverpool team last term, scoring only seven times in the league but that did not diminish his popularity.He last played at the World Cup, helping Egypt reach the last 16 for the first time since 1934 before they blew a two-goal lead to suffer an agonising loss to eventual runners-up Argentina.Salah had also been linked with Trabzonspor's Super Lig rivals Besiktas.Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish top flight last season, nine points clear of Besiktas, to qualify for the Europa League play-off round.Salah has scored 66 goals in 119 international appearances for Egypt and is one of the most successful African players in history. 

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani sent Thursday a cable of congratulations to President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on the occasion of his country's National Day.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi have stressed, during a telephone conversation, the importance of immediately ceasing all military actions, adding that these actions would trigger a broader regional conflict.They underlined that it is highly essential to prioritize political and diplomatic solutions, as well as ramp up coordination and consultation among Arab nations to safeguard the security and stability of the region and their peoples' assets.In a statement on Monday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Abdelatty reemphasized during the conversation that Egypt condemns the Iranian attacks on several areas in Jordan.He confirmed that his country fully stands side by side with Jordan and backs all measures it takes to protect its security, stability, and sovereignty, expressing his flat-out rejection of any assault that undermines the security and sovereignty of Arab nations.On the Palestinian cause, the two ministers underscored the need to implement all gains of the first phase of US President Donald Trump's plan and ensure the unhindered flow of life-saving humanitarian aid, as well as relief and medical assistance, into the Gaza Strip.Both sides asserted that this aid would mitigate the suffering of the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of reaching an agreement on the second phase of this plan, which includes the Israeli withdrawal from the enclave.The two ministers also condemned the ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as a non-starter.In addition, both sides concurred on continuing closer coordination and consultation between Egypt and Jordan and beefing up the existing cooperation mechanisms to serve their shared interests, achieve the aspirations of their peoples, and ensure that coordination proceeds on a variety of regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest regional developments amid the military escalation in the region during a phone call with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at resolving the current crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means, welcoming the progress achieved through the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran.During the call, the Egyptian Minister stressed the importance of adhering to the MoU and ensuring it represents a constructive step towards reducing tensions and enhancing security and stability in the region.

President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Doha on Tuesday to offer condolences on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.The president and the accompanying delegation were received upon arrival at Hamad International Airport by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani and Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the State of Qatar Walid Fahmy Al Faqi. 

Egypt on Sunday condemned in the strongest terms the criminal Iranian attacks targeting the State of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain, considering them a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of those countries and a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the Gulf region and undermines efforts aimed at de-escalation and strengthening regional security.In a statement, Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Egypt's complete rejection of all Iranian attacks targeting the security and sovereignty of Arab states or threatening the security and stability of the region, renewing its full solidarity with the sisterly Gulf states and its support for them in the face of anything that undermines their security and territorial integrity.The ministry also stressed that no pretexts or justifications for these rejected and condemned attacks can be accepted, calling for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions and adherence to the rules of international law in a manner that preserves the region's security and spares its peoples further tension and instability.

Hundreds of euphoric supporters welcomed home Egypt's national football team on Friday after the country's best-ever performance at the World Cup, which ended with a thrilling last-16 exit to Argentina.A sea of fans dressed in red, white and black filled the grounds outside the airport in El-Alamein, where the Pharaohs boarded an open-top bus for a parade through the coastal city."We are very happy with the team," supporter Mohamed Gehad told AFP at the airport where he had travelled to welcome the players."Their spirit was high, and ours is high as we welcome them."Supporters waved Egyptian flags and Palestinian flags in support of nearby Gaza, as well as a poster of coach Hossam Hossan draping both flags over himself during the tournament.Egypt achieved their first-ever World Cup win before later reaching the last 16 teams at the global spectacle for the first time after beating Australia on penalties.They were painstakingly close to achieving one of the tournament's great upsets against Argentina, leading 2-0 with just minutes left to play before the defending champions staged an astonishing 3-2 comeback win.But fans remained in high spirits, dancing to the beat of drums, singing patriotic songs and wearing shirts bearing the name of team captain and former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah. Others held handwritten banners reading: "You made us proud, men.""They reached a stage they had never reached before and we are proud of them," another fan Eyad Ahmed told AFP. 'New beginning'As the team's bus pulled away from the airport, flags rippled above the crowd and supporters surged alongside the vehicle until it disappeared from view."I'll do everything in my power to ensure this is a new beginning for Egyptian football on the international stage," Salah wrote on social media during the celebrations.The players are expected to meet President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday, who on social media thanked the team for its "honourable performance".The Egyptian Football Association has also lodged a complaint against the officiating team from Tuesday's match, with coach Hassan accusing officials of injustice despite FIFA refereeing chief Pierluigi Collina rejecting what he called "unfounded allegations".Hassan drew praise in Gaza after waving a Palestinian flag on the pitch following Egypt's victory over Australia and dedicating the win to the Palestinian people.At his pre-match press conference on Monday, Hassan said the suffering of the Palestinian people was a "shame on the world" as he called on football to do more to come to their aid.During the tournament, thousands of Palestinians gathered in makeshift cafes set up inside tents or built from corrugated metal salvaged from damaged buildings to watch Egypt's matches. 

 HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani and Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Dr Badr Abdelatty have called on the United States and Iran to resume negotiations, as US President Donald Trump repeated that the ceasefire between the two countries was over.During a phone call, HE Sheikh Mohammed and Dr Abdelatty "urged all parties to give priority to the language of diplomacy and dialogue and to return to the negotiating table".The prime minister stressed the need for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement what was agreed upon within the framework of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the US and Iran, including ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, maintaining security in the region, preserving the gains that have been achieved, and enhancing regional stability.On his Truth Social platform yesterday, Trump said that Iran had asked the United States to continue talks."We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!" he added.His comments came after three Qatari and Saudi commercial tankers came under fire this week, prompting the US to hit Iranian sites, and Iran to respond with strikes on US military installations in neighbouring Gulf states on Thursday.No attacks were reported yesterday.Separately, US Central Command spokesman Capt Tim Hawkins said there were no operational updates to announce, but said American forces in the region remained on high alert and were prepared to carry out operations if ordered.The two nations reached an interim deal last month to end a four-month conflict that has killed thousands and throttled worldwide energy supplies.Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency meanwhile reported that a delegation from Qatar arrived in Iran yesterday for talks.Members of the delegation were meeting officials in Iran to seek to de-escalate tensions after the exchange of fire and to discuss navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a source with knowledge of the situation told Reuters.Yesterday daily tanker traffic through the critical waterway appeared to have slowed, after the series of attacks stoked concerns about the recovery of global oil supplies and shipping, and highlighted the fragility of the interim truce.The talks in Iran aim to address the implementation of the US-Iran MoU and the issues that triggered the recent escalation, including disputes over navigation in the strait, the source said.Oil prices eased yesterday but remained on track for weekly gains of 5% after the hostilities.The Strait of Hormuz handled about a fifth of global oil supplies before the war.Tehran has since largely taken control of the waterway, forcing a stalemate in its confrontation with the world's most powerful military.Under the interim deal, the US ended its naval blockade of Iranian ports, and Iran agreed to ensure safe passage of commercial vessels.However, this week Washington accused Iranian forces of attacking three tankers in the area and struck military sites in Iran in response.While Iran has not claimed responsibility for those attacks, analysts say Tehran uses such actions to gain leverage in negotiations.Iran then attacked US military sites in Gulf states on Thursday.The US said its action aimed to keep the strait open and that Iran did not control the waterway.Tehran warned however that the strait would only be reopened on its terms, and any US intervention would draw a "crushing response".Yesterday the UN shipping agency's governing council condemned efforts by Iran to impose sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran's "unilateral decision" to create a body to control traffic through it.Prior to this week's attacks, daily tanker traffic had risen to its highest since the war began, averaging 40 ships transiting the strait.That was still far off the pre-conflict average of 125 to 140 daily sailings.On Thursday Iran buried its slain supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the country's holiest shrine in Mashhad, capping a week of funeral processions and rallies.Khamenei was killed in an airstrike on the first day of the war on February 28.A condolence ceremony was held yesterday after sunset prayers on behalf of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for his father in the city of Qom, his office announced.Mojtaba Khamenei, who was injured in the strike that killed his father, has not appeared in public.His whereabouts have been a mystery to Iranians and the rest of the world alike, leaving people to guess at his plans for Iran. 

Egypt strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait and Bahrain, describing them as a dangerous escalation and an unacceptable violation of the two countries' sovereignty that threatens security and stability in the Gulf region and heightens regional tensions.In a statement issued Thursday, Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Cairo stands in full solidarity with Kuwait and Bahrain and supports all measures taken by the two countries to safeguard their security and sovereignty.The ministry also stressed that the security of the Gulf states is an integral part of Egyptian and Arab national security, reiterating Egypt's rejection of any actions that threaten the security of Arab countries or undermine regional stability.
