The Katara Cultural Village concluded its Heritage and Folk Crafts Workshops for Summer 2026 Tuesday, marking the completion of a month-long programme at Al Sadu Exhibition (Building 46).

The programme celebrated Qatar’s traditional craftsmanship while inspiring a new generation to embrace the nation’s cultural heritage.

Launched on July 9, the workshops attracted strong participation from children and young people, whose enthusiastic engagement throughout the morning sessions reflected a growing interest in preserving traditional arts and crafts.

Combining practical training with cultural education, the programme offered participants an immersive experience that connected them with Qatar’s rich heritage while encouraging them to reinterpret it through contemporary artistic expression.

Organisers highlighted the importance of such initiatives in safeguarding national identity and ensuring that traditional knowledge is passed from one generation to the next.

Through interactive, hands-on activities, participants gained a deeper appreciation of Qatar’s diverse artisanal traditions, acquiring new creative skills while strengthening their connection to the country’s cultural legacy.

Among the programme’s highlights was the Traditional Weaving Workshop, where participants explored the raw materials, techniques and craftsmanship involved in producing traditional woven textiles.

Guided by experienced instructors, they learned the fundamentals of weaving and the cultural significance of this enduring craft.

The popular Sand Art Workshop also drew considerable interest, enabling participants to transform coloured sand into vibrant artworks inspired by Katara’s distinctive architecture, including its iconic pigeon towers.

The activity fostered creativity while enhancing visual awareness, artistic expression and fine motor skills.
