The legacy of His Highness the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani will outlast generations, Pakistan's ambassador to Qatar Muhammad Aamer said Thursday, describing the late leader as the architect of modern Qatar whose vision reshaped the nation and its standing in the world.
Speaking exclusively to Gulf Times on the sidelines of a condolence and tribute gathering held by the Pakistani community in Doha, the ambassador said: "The passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani is a profound loss for Qatar and for all those who witnessed his remarkable leadership and vision. His Highness was the architect of modern Qatar, whose wisdom, courage and foresight transformed the nation and laid the foundations for its prosperity, global standing and enduring progress."
That legacy, he added, lives on in the institutions the Father Amir built, the generations he empowered and the respect Qatar commands across the world today.
The ambassador reserved his most striking words for the durability of the late Amir's achievement.
"The Father Amir was a visionary leader and his legacy is not going to stay for years or decades but for the time Qatar is there, Insha' Allah," he told Gulf Times. "He had conviction in what he was dreaming, and he had the power to convert his dream into reality in his short span of being Amir of Qatar. Allah made sure that he sees his nation prosper and become one of the most important countries in the world."
On behalf of the people of Pakistan, the ambassador extended heartfelt condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the ruling family and the people of Qatar, praying that Allah Almighty grants the late Father Amir the highest place in Jannah.
Presiding over the gathering at TNG Al Wakra Campus, held in co-ordination with the Embassy of Pakistan, Aamer reaffirmed the enduring strength of Pakistan-Qatar relations and the mutual respect shared by the two brotherly nations.

Throughout the evening, speakers reflected on HH the late Father Amir's remarkable journey, recalling how his leadership between 1995 and 2013 propelled Qatar from a modest Gulf state into a globally influential nation through ambitious investments in energy, education, healthcare, infrastructure, diplomacy and human development. His vision of building a knowledge-based society placed people at the centre of national progress, creating opportunities for generations while positioning Qatar as a respected international actor.
The gathering also highlighted the special relationship between Qatar and Pakistan, one built on decades of friendship, shared values and mutual respect. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were formally established in 1973, but speakers noted that bilateral ties entered a new chapter following HH the late Father Amir's landmark visit to Pakistan in 1999.
That historic visit laid the foundations for expanded political, economic and social co-operation, with agreements signed across multiple sectors.
Participants recalled that this deep bond was reaffirmed recently by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his visit to Doha to offer condolences. The prime minister praised HH the late Father Amir as an exceptional statesman whose wisdom, foresight and commitment to public service left a lasting mark, while recalling his warmth and longstanding affection for Pakistan.
Speakers also highlighted HH the late Father Amir's appreciation for the Pakistani community's contribution to Qatar's development. Pakistani workers, a speaker noted, contributed to major infrastructure projects.
The hour-long ceremony opened with a recitation from the Holy Qur'an, followed by the national anthems of Qatar and Pakistan. Attendees observed a moment of silence before offering prayers for HH the late Father Amir. A commemorative documentary tracing HH Sheikh Hamad's life and achievements was then screened, drawing heartfelt reflections from those in attendance.
The programme, presented by Mahnoor Balooch, featured tributes from representatives of major Pakistani organisations in Qatar.
Each speaker reflected on HH the late Father Amir's visionary leadership and the profound impact of his legacy on Qatar's development and on the lives of hundreds of thousands of expatriates who have helped shape the country's modern success story.
Badar Sohail Khan delivered a pledge on behalf of the Pakistani community, reaffirming its continued commitment to serving Qatar and contributing to its future prosperity under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Mohsin Qureshi, Community Welfare Attaché at the Embassy of Pakistan, who expressed appreciation to the embassy, community organisations and participants for coming together to honour a leader whose legacy continues to inspire.
