Qatar's Ambassador to Switzerland Mohamed bin Jaham al-Kuwari has said Qatari diplomacy played a pivotal role in supporting the efforts that led to the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the US and Iran, describing the achievement as a historic step towards consolidating regional security and stability. 

 

In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the ambassador said Qatar had harnessed its relations and diplomatic weight to support initiatives aimed at bringing the parties closer together, backing the efforts led by Pakistan alongside a number of partner countries. 

 

The agreement, he stressed, had averted further tension that would have had direct repercussions for regional security and the global economy. 

 

The MoU, he added, marked the beginning of a new phase of dialogue, opening the door to discussing outstanding issues and files, strengthening security and stability, and supporting broader partnerships among the countries of the region as well as closer political and strategic ties with the international community. 

 

Al-Kuwari said the signing ceremony and the technical meetings hosted by the Burgenstock Resort in Switzerland represented a pivotal point in the process, coming after a period of tension that had nearly carried major political, economic and infrastructure repercussions. 

 

The MoU, he said, had laid the foundation for negotiations across several tracks aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement. 

 

On Qatar's role in the next phase, the ambassador stressed that it was not confined to helping reach the MoU but extended to creating the political and diplomatic atmosphere needed to support its implementation, and to maintaining communication with all parties to ensure that what had been agreed was translated into practical steps. 

 

The coming stage, he said, would require sustained diplomatic work to address a number of sensitive files. 

 

Qatar would continue to facilitate dialogue and meetings and work with all sides to ensure the MoU was implemented, leading to a final agreement that delivered security and stability in the region. 

 

Al-Kuwari said the international community was following the success of this path closely, given the strategic importance of the region and the bearing of its stability on the global economy, noting that Qatar's mediation efforts were widely appreciated at both regional and international levels. 

 

He referred to the meeting between His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis, which had seen praise for Qatar's role in mediation and in promoting peaceful solutions to conflicts. 

 

Co-operation between Qatar and Switzerland in mediation was developing steadily, he added, in light of the letter of intent the two countries signed in 2025. 

 

Both sides were working to support conflict-resolution efforts in several parts of the world, reflecting growing international confidence in Qatari diplomacy. 

 

Qatar, he concluded, had become an international model in mediation thanks to its accumulated diplomatic expertise, specialised institutional system and a consistent approach built on dialogue, confidence-building and bringing viewpoints closer — making it a reliable partner in international efforts to establish peace and settle disputes.
