While continuing its efforts to promote green and environmental protection initiatives, the General Administration of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs will continue to support the ‘Flower Each Spring’ programme.
The director-general of the administration Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Thani also announced the continuation of the partnership with the ‘A Flower Each Spring’ programme of Qatar Foundation (QF)’s Qur’anic Botanic Garden to implement its activities and events throughout the year.
According to a statement from Awqaf, a total of 9,181 students were part of the initiative while engaging in various activities meant to expand greener spaces and environmental protection last year. Sheikh Dr al-Thani, who expressed his pleasure in the environmental partnership with the ‘Flower Each Spring’ programme this year called for intensifying efforts to preserve the integrity of green spaces, gardens and places that contain local plants. This partnership comes within the community partnerships held by the General Administration of Endowments with various sectors of society.
“The plants are national and global wealth that requires providing everything necessary to preserve them. These all have a connection to the aesthetic dimension of human life,” he said noting that increasing awareness of the importance of vegetation in preserving the environment and building positive behaviour towards it among generations is an obligation urged by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Dr Saif Ali al-Hajri, head of the programme expressed his gratitude to Awqaf for the support. He said that this pioneering regional programme was launched by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser in 1999.
He noted that the programme is considered a qualitative initiative that aims to connect children with their natural heritage in a way that enhances hope for the future while fulfilling the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
‘A Flower Each Spring’ programme celebrates each year one of the 350 plants and flowers that grow in Qatar, focusing on perennial plants of special importance to the coastal and desert nature of the country.
