Katara – Cultural Village has joined hands with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to launch an electric vehicle (EV) charging station, one of the fastest charging points in Qatar with a capacity of 180 kilowatts.
According to a statement by Katara on its official X account, the new charging point is part of the joint initiative to establish high-speed chargers at strategic locations nationwide.
Kahramaa, earlier this year, announced the opening of a platform to control and monitor the network of EV charging stations. While preparing for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Kahramaa set up around 100 EV charging stations. The corporation is looking to expand the network between 600 to 1,000 fast charging stations by 2025.
The EV charging stations are established across Qatar in co-operation with various stakeholders including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) and the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
An agreement was earlier signed with Qatar Fuel (Woqod) to supply, install and operate 37 EV charging units at Woqod stations distributed over 22 sites across Qatar. Ultra-fast and highly efficient, these units can charge cars in less than half an hour.
