The second edition of the ‘Future Engineer’ programme is set to offer students insights in engineering disciplines and help them choose suitable careers. The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has joined hands with the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC) to launch the proramme at QSC. Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) is the media partner.
Addressing a press conference yesterday (Monday), Ashghal's public relations manager Abdulla Saad al-Saad, said, the programme reflects Ashghal’s social responsibility. “We will provide our knowledge and expertise to the students and introduce them to different engineering disciplines in several Ashghal departments and sections. The focus during the programme stages will be on practice and the use of modern technology to encourage students to implement projects and find solutions to potential challenges,” he said.
There are two stages for the programme. The first stage is where the students are introduced to working in Ashghal’s laboratories and the departments. They will be briefed on topics such as project management and planning, risk management during implementation, team management and progress monitoring, with brainstorming to identify and address significant problems being faced by Ashghal.
The participants will be taken on a field visit, familiarised with contractual procedures and learn about IT engineering, quality and safety management and its role in Ashghal’s projects, and training in the Laboratories Section (Environmental Laboratory Unit and Building Materials Laboratory Unit).
During the second stage of the programme, participants will be introduced to the laboratories of QSC to apply what they have learned, work on the design of prototypes and the construction of the three-dimensional basic building materials and their connectivity to electronic devices.
QSC deputy executive director engineer Abdulrahman Saleh Khamis said the laboratories are designed for the implementation of modern technological projects, to match the aspirations of the young people and enable them to simulate the reality of work when they graduate and work in engineering fields.
Shaikha Ahmed Basahel, head of the Training and Organisational Development Section, said Ashghal is keen to encourage the students to choose engineering as a major, and this is reflected through the programme.
QSC's public relations and communications department manager Eman al-Obaidie, said the programme plays a leading role in shaping the future of the young generation and in acquiring professional practical skills through field experience within Ashghal, and through practical projects to be implemented by participants in QSC laboratories and workshops.
