The Ministry of Municipality has clarified that recent reports of a desert locust outbreak are untrue.
"Recently, a video clip about the spread of desert locusts was circulated. Accordingly, the Department of Agricultural Affairs communicated with the authorities concerned, namely the desert locust control authority in the central region - FAO, to find out the reality of the situation," the ministry said in a social media post.
The authority reported that the situation is stable in the region and that the video clip circulating is old, dating back to 2019, the ministry noted.
"It is worth noting that the Department of Agricultural Affairs at the ministry of Municipality is working to send technical teams to monitor and survey desert locusts in all regions of the country on an ongoing basis," it added.
