Truffle market now open at Souq Waqif

The daily auction and exhibition of desert truffles have been moved from Al Wakra Central Market to Souq Waqif, Doha, to make it more easily accessible for all, said Khalid Saif al-Suwaidi, general supervisor of Souq Waqif desert truffles exhibition and auction.
He told local Arabic daily Arrayah that the auction takes place daily at the Eastern Arena of Souq Waqif from 8am to 12.30pm or until the stock lasts. Besides, there is an exhibition with 10 outlets for retail sales to the public from 8am to 9.30pm or until the stock lasts.
Al-Suwaidi explained that due to limited supply, only 500kg of desert truffles are sold daily. But he expects more supply soon, up to five tonnes daily. The supply mainly is from Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Syria. The local production is minimal, he added.
