The National Archives of Qatar and the National Records and Archives Authority of Oman Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of records and archives.The agreement reflects the deep fraternal relations between the two countries and their shared commitment to developing collaboration in this vital sector.The MoU was signed by Secretary-General of the National Archives of Qatar, Dr Ahmed Abdullah al-Buainain and Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority of Oman, Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al-Dhawyani.The memorandum seeks to preserve national memory and develop mechanisms for its protection and safeguarding in line with best practices and professional standards, ensuring its sustainability and transmission to future generations. This comes within the framework of a shared vision to advance documentation practices and preserve historical records.The agreement also underscores the keenness of both sides to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of records and archives, exchange expertise and knowledge, contribute to the development of modern documentation systems, keep pace with digital transformation requirements, and support scientific research.Abdullah al-Badr, Head of the International Cooperation Department at the National Archives of Qatar, said in an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the memorandum of understanding signed between the National Archives of Qatar and Oman’s National Records and Archives Authority focuses on preserving the rich documentary heritage of both countries. He added that it also aims to coordinate cooperation in participating in regional and international meetings and organisations, in a manner that serves the interests of the two brotherly nations.He noted that the signing of the memorandum falls within the broader framework of joint bilateral cooperation between Qatar and Oman, as well as within the context of joint Gulf and Arab cooperation.On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the National Archives of Qatar organised a tour for the Omani delegation of its exhibition, during which they reviewed a selection of prominent documents highlighting the significance of national heritage.The tour also included a presentation on several future projects being developed by the National Archives of Qatar, focusing on advancing modern documentation systems and facilitating access to documents for researchers and other interested audiences.The National Archives of Qatar seeks to enrich intellectual activity and document the history of the State, while organising, collecting, preserving, and supervising documents and archives in accordance with the provisions of Law No. (7) of 2023 concerning Documents and Archives. It also aims to enable access to information, records, and documents and facilitate their use by establishing standards and policies governing the management of public, private, historical, and national documents in the State.The Archives is responsible for identifying documents of historical value held by ministries, other government entities, or individuals, as well as documents and archives located abroad. It also determines the mechanisms for acquiring and transferring such documents and archives, or obtaining copies or reproductions thereof.Meanwhile, the National Records and Archives Authority of Oman aims to prepare specialists and enhance their capabilities through comprehensive scientific training programme, facilitate access to archives, support scientific research and its publication, and encourage scientific, intellectual, and artistic research through the optimal use of archival materials.  

The State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman signed an MoU aimed at strengthening partnership, trade and investment integration and encouraging exports between the two countries, on the sidelines of the 24th session of the Qatari-Omani Joint Committee, held during the period of Dec. 10-11 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.Representing the Qatari side, His Excellency Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari signed the MoU, while the Minister of Finance of Oman represented the Omani side by signing.The MoU aims to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the areas of financing and credit facilities through Qatar Development Bank's (QDB) buyer credit program, which supports the implementation of projects included in the Omani Ministry of Finance's budget, and allows the utilization of Qatari capabilities in export and financing, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Qatari exports and contributing to the diversification of the two countries' economies.HE Minister of Finance also witnessed the signing of another MoU between QDB and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman, which aims to trade and facilitate exports between the two countries.During this event, His Excellency emphasized the importance of this agreement and its effective role, noting that the cooperation between the State of Qatar and Oman is based on a share vision to enhance economic integration.The signing of the MoUs represents a new step in the path of bilateral partnership that supports the two countries' efforts towards a more diversified and sustainable economy.The Qatari-Omani Joint Committee held its first meeting in Doha in April 1995, and its meetings have continued since then, alternating between the two countries, in order to strengthen the path of cooperation and joint coordination.

His Excellency the Minister of Finance, Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari met with Minister of Finance of the Sultanate of Oman, Sultan bin Salim al-Habsi on the sidelines of the 24th session of the Qatar-Oman Joint Committee held in Muscat, reports QNA. The meeting focused on bilateral relations between the two countries in the economic, trade and investment fields and means to enhance them, in addition to discussing aspects of joint co-operation.

The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber recently participated in the first edition of the ‘Muscat Arbitration Days’ conference, organised by the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre in Muscat.Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani, QICCA vice-chairman, spoke at the second panel session titled ‘Stronger Together – Building a Unified Regional Arbitration Ecosystem’, where he reviewed the stages of arbitration development in Qatar.He emphasised the strategic importance of unifying efforts and exchanging best practices among arbitration centres in the GCC, noting that such cooperation would accelerate the adjustment of policies and procedures and enhance the region’s appeal as a reliable and effective destination for resolving commercial disputes at the international level.The session, which featured prominent speakers and representatives from the Saudi Centre for Commercial Arbitration, the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution, and the Commercial Arbitration Centre for the GCC, discussed ways to strengthen co-operation among GCC arbitration centres to create a more coherent and robust arbitration environment that meets the aspirations of the business and investment communities across the region.On the sidelines of the conference, QICCA and the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance co-operation in developing arbitration, conciliation, and dispute-resolution mechanisms.The MoU aims to exchange expertise and knowledge, jointly promote services, and organise joint events and training programmes, thereby benefiting practitioners and users of arbitration services in both countries and the region.It reflects the shared vision between the two centres and reinforces the pioneering role of GCC countries in creating an integrated arbitration ecosystem that supports the business environment, keeps pace with global economic developments, and strengthens the region’s position as a vital hub for trade and investment.

Comoros, Oman, Bahrain and Sudan advanced in dramatic fashion on the final day of FIFA Arab Cup qualifiers in Qatar Wednesday. Comoros rallied from two goals down to edge Yemen on penalties, while Oman overcame 201st-ranked Somalia in a tense shootout. Elsewhere, Bahrain narrowly defeated Djibouti, and Sudan secured a hard-fought win over Lebanon despite playing much of the match with ten men. The tournament proper will start from December 1, with hosts Qatar taking Palestine, while Tunisia face Syria on the opening day.Oman 0-0 Somalia (4-1 Penalty Shootout)Oman have brushed off the disappointment of narrowly failing to secure a FIFA World Cup slot in October’s fourth round of AFC qualifiers by downing Somalia to reach the Arab Cup group stage.In front of a lively crowd at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Oman’s Nasser al-Rawahi had the best of the limited early chances, seeing a first-half effort well blocked and then flashing a shot across the face of the Somalia goal early in the second term.Somalia entered the clash in a modest vein of form but came within inches of breaking the deadlock as captain Abdulsamed Abdullahi forced Ibrahim al-Mukhaini into a smart save as the hour approached.That was the end of the clear-cut chances as the contest went straight to penalties, where both teams opted to make a goalkeeper change just as regulation time expired.It was Oman’s Ibrahim al-Rajhi who played a starring role, saving the first and third spot-kicks and then watching on as Mohammed al-Ghafri converted the fourth to secure his nation a place in Group B alongside Morocco, Saudi Arabia and either Comoros or Yemen.Bahrain 1-0 DjiboutiBahrain secured their spot in Group D with a narrow victory over Djibouti at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.They hit the front shortly before half-time when Mohamed Marhoon sent a low cross into the area which looked like a simple gather for Mouktar Youssouf, but he fumbled the ball into the path of Mohamed al-Romaihi to tap in. Djibouti's task was then made all the more difficult just seven minutes later as Ahmed Zakaria saw red for an off-the-ball elbow on Mahdi Abduljabbar.The Bahrainis came closest to doubling their lead with 15 minutes to go when Komail Al-Aswad crossed for al-Romaihi, but Youssouf redeemed himself with a fine diving save.Dragan Talajic's side will now head into Group D of the final tournament alongside Algeria, Iraq and one of Sudan or Lebanon.Sudan 2-1 LebanonSudan overcame incredible odds to secure an epic comeback victory over Lebanon and qualify for the Arab Cup group stage.The Falcons of Jediane, who went into the fixture having not won in their previous five outings, were reduced to ten men midway through the first half when frontman John Mano was sent off after picking up two quick yellow cards. Lebanon immediately capitalised on their advantage as Mohamad Safwan swung in a dangerous cross which Khalil Khamis converted from close range.Sudan refused to give up, however, and equalised just before the break when a powerful strike by Mustafa Karshoum was deflected by Lebanon captain Mohamad Haidar into his own net. Early in the second half, Sudan had two excellent chances blocked on the line and then took a deserved lead when Yaser Jobak beat Lebanon goalkeeper Mostafa Matar at the near post with a low drive into the net.Sudan goalkeeper then Monged Elneel pulled off a brilliant save in stoppage time from an Ali Kassas header to seal the improbable victory.Comoros 4-4 Yemen (4-2 Penalty Shootout)Comoros pulled off a comeback for the ages to defeat Yemen on penalties and advance to the group stage of the Arab Cup.It was a dream start for Yemen, as they broke the deadlock when Comoros goalkeeper Adel Anzimati failed to cleanly catch a corner kick and Harwan Alzuabidi pounced on the bobble to head home. But Comoros equalised when Zaid Amir was clipped in the area by Rami Alwasmani, and Housseine Zakouani tucked away the penalty.Yemen regained the lead in style, as Abdulwasea Almatari whipped in a cross that connected with the foot of Nasser Algahwashi for the goal. Almatari would then add a third for Yemen right before intermission by polishing off a counter-attack. Comoros pulled to within one when Zainou-Dine Mohamed’s shot deflected off Osamah Anbar and caromed into net. However, they were punished by a defensive miscue, allowing Almatari to slip in and tally his second of the night.Facing a two-goal deficit with just minutes remaining, Comoros surged late, with Amir as the hero. First, he calmly converted a penalty after a handball, and then equalised in dramatic fashion by running onto a deflected header from a Yemen defender to score and force penalties. From the spot, Anzimati was decisive in making two saves, while Comoros converted all four of their attempts, the winning one fittingly by Amir, to clinch victory. 

The Supreme Judicial Council participated in the "Mediation: The Future of Dispute Resolution" conference in the Sultanate of Oman, joining experts and specialists in mediation and dispute-settlement mechanisms.The Council's delegation included HE President of the Investment and Trade Court, Judge Khalid bin Ali Al Obaidli, along with Judges Nasser Al Khelaifi, Saad Al Mohannadi, and Munira Al Qahtani; as well as Administrative Director of the Court of Appeal, Mubarak Al Sahouti.The conference explored recent developments in mediation and its role in strengthening access to justice and easing the burden on courts. Participants also reviewed international experiences in developing alternative dispute-resolution methods.Speaking on the sidelines of the event, HE Judge Khalid bin Ali Al Obaidli highlighted the importance of taking part in specialized legal forums, noting Oman's commitment to advancing the mediation framework.He said the Council's participation reflects the strong judicial ties between the two countries and the desire to learn from the latest global practices in the field. Exchanging expertise, he added, helps improve the efficiency of judicial work and enhances the quality of dispute resolution across the region.Al Obaidli also noted that the participation of the Council's judges underscores its commitment to keeping pace with modern legal developments and supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening justice and streamlining dispute-resolution procedures through effective and timely mechanisms.

Cosmin Olaroiu was proud of the resilience shown by the United Arab Emirates in the 2-1 win against Oman in Group A of the AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to 26 playoffs on Saturday.Trailing to Kouame Kouadio’s first half own goal, UAE turned on the power in the closing minutes of the tie to turn the match around, with Marcus Meloni and Caio Lucas scoring to keep their hopes of a second FIFA World Cup Finals appearance alive.Olaroiu admitted that Oman had made the tie at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium into a slugfest.“The match was very difficult, and I congratulate the players for their determination and resolve to achieve victory, which is a well-deserved and fair result that placed us at the top of the group,” said the Romanian tactician, whose side only have to avoid defeat against Qatar tomorrow to book their ticket to next year’s global showpiece. “I would like to thank our fans for their great support during the match.”Olaroiu, who took charge of UAE after leading Sharjah FC to the AFC Champions League Two 2024-25 title in May, said UAE’s performance before the break forced his hand going into the second half.“I was forced to make a complete technical change at the beginning of the second half to change the players’ mentality and achieve victory,” said Olariu, who sent on Caio Canedo, Yahia Nader and Harib Abdalla to boost his side’s potency.“We played a match with different personalities in the two halves but we did everything necessary to win the match. Oman’s only option will be victory when they face the United Arab Emirates in their Asian World Cup Playoffs Group A tie Saturday. Carlos Queiroz’s side battled to a goalless draw with Qatar on Wednesday, giving them hope of a first qualification to the FIFA World Cup should they defeat UAE at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.The steely performance against Qatar, however, did come at a cost with the influential Jameel al-Yahmadi taken off in the 24th minute after a hefty challenge and is now confirmed to be out of contention for the UAE match. Queiroz could opt to provide striker Issam al-Sabhi more support up front with Oman only managing to score in six of their 10 matches in the previous stage of the Qualifiers.The experienced Portuguese tactician is wary of the threat UAE possess but at the same time is bullish on Oman's chances of achieving victory. “It’s an important and decisive match, and our goal is to win as we did in the previous game," said Queiroz."We are aware of the value of this encounter and the opportunity to get closer to the dream of reaching the World Cup. The UAE team is strong and organised, and they will do everything to make their fans happy. We must focus fully and play with great discipline and enthusiasm to achieve victory. We must benefit from the lessons of the past, build on our strengths, and face the match step by step with confidence and great ambition. Iraq are aiming for a long-awaited return to the global stage, while Indonesia know that anything other than a win will end their hopes.Iraq enter the tie determined to secure their second FIFA World Cup appearance, having featured in the 1986 edition in Mexico with head coach Graham Arnold confident of emulating that achievement. Their King Cup’s triumph over Thailand in September was a statement of intent and Arnold will expect Mohanad Ali, Ali Jasim and Aymen Hussein to deliver once again.With Saudi Arabia setting the early pace after their victory against Indonesia, Iraq know they have to make a winning start. “We are very excited about the game tomorrow night. Obviously World Cup qualifiers are very important and it seems like we’ve been waiting a long time. But we’re all ready to go now,” said Arnold.“I think if I have to give the team a rating out of 10 then we’re 10. Discipline from the boys has never been an issue for me, they’ve been fantastic. 100 percent. We have one training session to go and then we’re ready. The biggest positive for me has been all the players are playing a lot of football at their clubs. Qatar made their path to the 2026 World Cup more difficult after being held to a drab 0-0 draw by Oman in the opening match of the fourth round of Asia’s World Cup qualifiers Wednesday at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.It was a below-par performance from both teams, as neither Qatar nor Oman showed the urgency expected in such a crucial fixture. The result leaves Qatar and Oman tied on a point each in Group A. To stay in contention for automatic qualification, Qatar will need to defeat the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday and rely on the outcome of Saturday’s encounter between Oman and the Emiratis.Only the group winners will earn automatic qualification for next year’s World Cup, to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States. The runners-up will advance to a playoff against the second-placed team from Group B, which is being contested in Saudi Arabia, where Iraq and Indonesia are the other sides.Akram Afif squandered Qatar’s best chance early in the second half, while substitute Mohammed Muntari failed to get enough power on his shot as a resolute Oman held firm to secure a point.Qatar coach Julen Lopetegui had spoken beforehand about the pressure his side is facing in trying to qualify for the World Cup on merit for the first time. The 2022 World Cup hosts have historically struggled in the qualifiers, and that inconsistency resurfaced last night in a disjointed display.Lopetegui, who kept his squad selection under wraps on the eve of the match, handed debuts to 20-year-old Al Gharafa defender Ayoub Aloui and 25-year-old Al Rayyan goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada. He also left strikers Almoez Ali and Muntari on the bench, opting instead to start with Ahmed al-Ganehi and Edmilson Junior in support of mercurial star Afif.The Spaniard later said his playing XI decisions were influenced by injuries in the squad. “The starting lineup was ideal given the injuries, and all the players gave their best to achieve the desired result,” Lopetegui said after the match.Qatar dominated possession in the first half, with Sultan al-Brake and Edmilson causing early problems for Oman. But it was Carlos Queiroz’s side — seeking their first-ever World Cup appearance — who had the best opportunity when a wayward backpass from al-Brake almost caught out Abunada, forcing the debutant goalkeeper to concede a throw-in under pressure from Issam al-Sabhi.Boualem Khoukhi, who captained Qatar on the night, had the first look at goal in the 13th minute, but the defender’s shot flew wide of the target. Al-Sabhi continued to be Oman’s biggest threat, skipping past his marker with a neat turn in the 27th minute before seeing his powerful left-footed effort comfortably saved by Abunada.Qatar almost capitalised six minutes later when Mohammed al-Mannai slipped a clever ball through to Afif, who tried to catch Oman napping, but goalkeeper Ibrahim al-Rushaidi was alert to the danger and made a solid intervention.Nasser al-Rawahi came close for Oman, glancing a header just over the bar from a corner, while Qatar’s best effort before the break came from Afif, whose shot was easily dealt with by the Omani defence.Afif should have put the hosts ahead soon after the interval when the visitors gifted him possession inside their own half, but the Asian Player of the Year uncharacteristically side-footed wide of the post.Oman nearly punished Qatar in the 69th minute when Abunada rushed off his line to clear a cross, leaving his goal momentarily exposed, but Abdullah Fawaz’s long-range attempt failed to find the target. Almoez was introduced in the 57th minute for al-Ganehi, while Muntari also had a chance in the added time, but both could not inspire Qatar to victory as the teams settled for a share of the spoils.After the match, Lopetegui remained defiant, insisting his team had done enough to win. “We performed well throughout the match against a stubborn team that defended well and closed down spaces. Despite that, we created several opportunities but couldn’t convert them into goals,” the former Spain and Real Madrid coach said.“We will continue to pursue our dream of qualifying for the World Cup. Oman coach Carlos Queiroz acknowledged the tough test awaiting his side against hosts Qatar at the fourth round of the Asian Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World, but said his players are ready and confident.Oman will take on Qatar at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium Wednesday in their Group A opener, with the UAE completing the three-team group. Only the group winner secure a direct berth in the next phase, while the runner-up will move into a two-legged play-off for a final shot at qualification.“We’re excited to begin our campaign against Qatar,” said Queiroz at the pre-match press conference Tuesday. “The team has prepared well and we believe in our ability to get a positive result to kick off our journey.”In the past, the 72-year-old has taken South Africa, Portugal and Iran twice into the World cup but doing so with Oman would be his biggest achievement yet. Wednesday’s match will be Queiroz's first against Qatar since he was sacked by the in the lead-up to last Asian Cup, a tournament won by the Portuguese coach's former team under his replacement, Marquez Lopez."In my opinion, if I was still the head coach, Qatar would not have been playing tomorrow," said Queiroz with a smile. "Qatar would have already qualified for the World Cup."The veteran coach expressed his delight at returning to Qatar. “It’s always a pleasure to be back in Qatar after having spent a wonderful time here.
