The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said that the Israeli occupation forces carried out 53 violations against Palestinian journalists during the month of March.The syndicate explained in its monthly report that March witnessed the assassination of two journalists, warning of the dangerous and systematic escalation in the Israeli occupation forces’ targeting of Palestinian journalists.The syndicate stressed that these violations constitute part of an organized policy to silence Palestinian voices and undermine press freedom. Targeting journalists, including killing, arresting, and physical assault, falls within an escalating pattern of serious violations that rise to the level of serious crimes, and reflects the occupation authorities’ insistence on preventing independent media coverage, especially in light of the escalation of crimes and violations against Palestinian civilians.

Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip killed four people Wednesday, including an Al Jazeera journalist, local health authorities said and the the television network reported.The strike that killed Al Jazeera's Muhammad Washah targeted a vehicle ‌he and one other Palestinian, who was also killed, were driving along ​the coastal road in Gaza ‌City, health authorities said. In February 2024, at the height of Israel's ‌war in Gaza, ⁠the military accused Washah ‌of being a member of Hamas' ‌military wing.At the time, Hamas and Al Jazeera denied that Washah had any affiliation with the group. Israel's military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his killing.Al Jazeera, which also did not immediately respond to a request for comment, reported on its Arabic-language TV channel that he ​was killed in a drone strike.The Hamas-run government media office in Gaza condemned Washah's killing.TWO OTHERS KILLED IN GAZAIn a separate incident in Gaza, medics said an Israeli airstrike killed two ‌people in the central Gaza ⁠Strip, without providing details. ​There was no immediate comment from Israel's military on the incident.Israel and ​Hamas reached a US-brokered deal last October that was meant to halt violence in the Palestinian territory. Both sides accuse each other of breaching the agreement.Israeli fire has killed at least 700 people since the deal was struck. Israel says four soldiers have been killed by fighters during the same period.Israel has previously killed Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza and in the occupied West Bank.In August 2025, Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif was killed along with four other colleagues in an Israeli airstrike.In May 2022, Israeli troops shot dead Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, a ⁠US-Palestinian citizen, while she was covering ⁠a military operation in the West Bank city of Jenin. The military said an investigation into that incident concluded she was likely killed by unintentional fire by its forces.The Committee to Protect Journalists has said it has documented 223 journalists and media workers killed in Gaza, Lebanon and Israel. Among those killed were journalists working for Reuters.The CPJ says Israel has never held anyone accountable in the killings of journalists by its military. An Israel Defence Forces spokesperson said the military has targeted only combatants and military sites, avoided civilians and journalists, and warned that staying in active combat zones carries inherent risks despite efforts to minimise harm.The military has ‌alleged at times, without ​providing verifiable evidence, that some journalists were killed because of their links to Hamas, which their news organisations denied. 

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Thursday that there was no end in sight to a war that had already displaced a million people over the last month, as families fleeing Israeli strikes said they were exhausted by repeated rounds of conflict.Lebanon is entering the second month of conflict between Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah and Israel, which has pledged to occupy swathes of southern Lebanon as part of a "security zone" to protect its own northern residents."Lebanon has become a victim of a war – one whose outcomes and end date no one can predict," Salam told reporters Thursday after a meeting of his cabinet."The positions of Israeli officials, and the practices of their army, reveal far-reaching goals, including a significant expansion in the occupation of Lebanese territories, dangerous talk about establishing buffer zones or security belts, and the displacement of more than 1mn Lebanese," he said.Israel's assertion that its military will retain control of southern Lebanon has fuelled fears of a long-term occupation, after a two-decade Israeli presence ended in 2000.Salam said his government would redouble diplomatic and political efforts to end the war.A call by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun for direct talks with Israel has so far received no response.Israel has continued to carry out strikes on Lebanon after a 2024 ceasefire ended its last war with Hezbollah, while keeping troops stationed on five hilltop positions in southern Lebanon.Israel launched a full-scale air and ground campaign after Hezbollah fired into Israel on March 2 in solidarity with Iran after the US and Israel began their war on Tehran.Salam, without naming Hezbollah, condemned co-ordinated attacks carried out with Iran's Revolutionary Guards.More than 1,300 people have been killed in Israeli strikes and about a fifth of Lebanon's population has been displaced.Israel has issued evacuation orders covering around 15% of Lebanese territory."I want to direct the biggest salute to our people who are staying in their hometowns and villages in the south, and want to reiterate that we stand by them," Salam said.Tens of thousands of Lebanese have remained in their homes in southern Lebanon, even as Lebanese troops withdraw from the area to avoid confronting Israeli troops.They include around 9,000 Lebanese Christians living in a cluster of border towns, who told Reuters that they were determined to stay despite the advancing military operations.Salam also stressed the need to preserve internal stability as the war strains Lebanon's sectarian political faultlines.Some communities have been reluctant to host displaced families.As the war drags on, Lebanon is examining ways to house those families in the long-run.Mohammad al-Badran, a Syrian who had lived for years in Beirut's southern suburbs, said he and his family were turned away when they sought refuge in a mountainous area outside the capital.Badran, his wife and their four children – the youngest of whom was born barely two weeks before the war started – are now sleeping in a makeshift tent area in the capital.His 10-year-old daughter, Nour, can hear the sound of Israeli strikes on the nearby southern suburbs."The sound is loud, the children are crying, and I feel like the missiles are flying above us," she said.Ali al-Aziz, who also fled the southern suburbs, told Reuters that Israel should withdraw from Lebanon so that the conflict could end and he could go back home."We want the war to end once and for all. Not for a war to happen every year or every ten years," he said. 

The death toll from the Israeli airstrike on Beirut has risen to seven dead and 26 wounded.In a statement on Wednesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that an Israeli airstrike on the Al Janah area of ​​Beirut led to seven dead and 26 wounded.Earlier today, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that five people were killed and 21 others were injured in an Israeli Airstrike on the Al Janah area in Beirut. 

The United Nations has called on Israel to repeal a law passed by the Knesset on Monday that would reinstate the death penalty, almost exclusively to Palestinian prisoners.UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk described the law as discriminatory in a press statement, saying it violates Israel's obligations under international law."It is deeply disappointing that this bill has been approved by the Knesset”, he said, highlighting that it is patently inconsistent with Israel’s international law obligations, including in relation to the right to life, Turk said.He added that "it raises serious concerns about due process violations, is deeply discriminatory, and must be promptly repealed."Given the UN's opposition to the death penalty, the High Commissioner noted the difficulty of reconciling this punishment with human dignity, and that the penalty increases the unacceptable risk of innocent people being executed.The Israeli Knesset approved the bill on Monday, which aims to impose the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, a move that has been met with widespread international condemnation. 

Three Palestinians were martyred and others wounded Monday morning in an Israeli airstrike southeast of Gaza City.The Palestinian news agency (WAFA) quoted medical sources as saying that at least three Palestinians were killed and others, some critically, were wounded when Israeli warplanes targeted a group of civilians near the Al-Shafi'i Mosque in the Zeitoun neighborhood south of Gaza City.The bodies of ten Palestinians and 18 injuries arrived at hospitals across the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours.The death toll from the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip has risen to 72,278, with 172,013 wounded, since the start of the offensive on Oct. 7, 2023. 

A young Palestinian man was martyred this morning by Israeli occupation forces in the village of Kharsa in the town of Dura, southwest of Hebron in the West Bank.The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported, citing security and local sources, that the occupation forces fired live ammunition at the young man and left him bleeding, preventing medical teams from providing him with first aid, and confiscated the keys to ambulance vehicles, until he was martyred, and then transferred him to an unknown location.The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that since the ceasefire in Oct. 2025, the total number of martyrs has reached 702, the total number of injuries is 1,913, and the total number of bodies recovered is 756.The Israeli entity continues to violate the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in Oct. 2025 by launching raids and air and artillery bombardments on various parts of the Gaza Strip.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the death toll from Israeli attacks on the Lebanese health sector has risen to 52.WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X platform that a paramedic was killed in an attack targeting an ambulance in Bint Jbeil."A medical warehouse in the same city was destroyed in an attack," he added.Prior to this attack, Ghebreyesus said that WHO had verified the deaths of 51 Lebanese health workers, including nine paramedics, on Saturday.Earlier, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that the death toll from the Israeli aggression against Lebanon had risen to 1,238, with 3,543 injured since March 2.The Israeli entity continues to launch a series of raids on several villages and towns in southern Lebanon, in addition to areas in the southern suburbs of Beirut. 

Israeli strikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs Monday, the first attack on the Hezbollah stronghold in days, as its military said it had captured two members of the group in southern Lebanon. An earlier Israeli strike had hit the upscale, predominantly Christian area of Hazmieh near Beirut, with Israel saying it targeted a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ foreign operations arm. AFPTV’s live broadcast showed a cloud of smoke over the capital’s southern suburbs, and Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported several strikes on the area. The Israeli military also announced it was “striking Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut” after having called on residents to leave the southern suburbs beforehand. Lebanon was pulled into the Middle East war when Hezbollah began firing rockets into Israel on March 2 to avenge the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an Israeli-US attack. Israel has since launched strikes across Lebanon, killing at least 1,039 people, and sent ground troops into the country’s south. In a statement Monday, the Israeli army said that “during an activity to locate weapons in southern Lebanon, (Israeli) troops identified several armed Hezbollah Radwan Force fighters who were planning to fire an anti-tank missile”, referring to the group’s commando force. “After being identified, the fighters surrendered. They were apprehended by the troops and transferred to Israeli territory for further questioning,” it added. The Israeli military told AFP two Hezbollah memberswere captured. 

An Israeli airstrike killed at least three people including a child in the Gaza Strip Tuesday, local health authorities said, the latest ‌violence jeopardising the ceasefire which has been under strain ​during the Israeli-US war ‌against Iran.Medics said the airstrike targeted a vehicle ‌in the ⁠western area of ‌Khan Younis, south of the ‌enclave, killing three people, including a child, and wounding 12 other ⁠people. There was no immediate Israeli comment.Israel's military has continued to strike Gaza during the regional war with Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon. On Sunday it killed 12 people in Gaza, including nine police officers in one strike that Israel said targeted a Hamas cell. The military has cited threats ​or fire from Hamas as the reason for its attacks.Israel's assault has since killed more than 72,000 Palestinians, Gaza's health authorities say, ‌including more than 670 since a ⁠ceasefire was ​reached last October. Gaza health officials said at least ​40 people have been killed by Israeli fire since the US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran at the end of February.Three sources told Reuters on Monday that envoys from US President Donald Trump’s "Board of Peace” have met representatives of Hamas in Cairo in an effort to safeguard the October Gaza ceasefire, which has come under serious strain.A Palestinian official with knowledge of the Cairo ‌talks said that Hamas believed ‌Israel was exploiting the ⁠war on Iran to slip away from its obligations under ⁠Trump's plan. Israel rejects this.Israel ⁠and Hamas have traded blame for ceasefire violations.Separately, Israeli forces shot and killed a 17-year-old Palestinian and wounded another in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, health officials said Tuesday.Rights groups and medics say Israeli settlers are taking advantage of curbs on movement imposed during the US-Israeli war on Iran to attack Palestinians in the West Bank, with military roadblocks preventing ambulances from reaching victims quickly.Settlers have killed at least five Palestinians in the West Bank since the Iran war began on February 28, ‌according to the Palestinian ​health ministry. 

Gaza's civil defence agency said Saturday that Israeli strikes had killed six people over the past 24 hours, the latest bout of violence in the territory against the backdrop of the US-Israeli war with Iran.In a pre-dawn strike Saturday, two policemen and a civilian were killed in the southern city of Khan Yunis, the agency reported.A strike on a group of civilians on Friday evening in eastern Gaza City killed three people, whose bodies were taken to the territory's main Al-Shifa hospital, the agency said.When contacted by AFP, the Israeli military did not offer an immediate response.Violence has continued in the Palestinian territory despite a ceasefire since October 10, and even as Israel continues its air campaign against Iran since February 28.FIVE INJURED IN WEST BANK ATTACKIsraeli settlers injured five Palestinians, including two with gunshot wounds, in a fresh attack against a village in the occupied West Bank, a Palestinian official said Saturday, while the military reported a 'violent confrontation' in the area, AFP reported from Ramallah.Palestinian news agency WAFA said a group of settlers attacked in the area of Rashayda, near the village of Kisan, "firing live ammunition".Musa Abayat, the mayor of the area east of Bethlehem, told AFP that two people were hospitalised with gunshot wounds and three others beaten with sharp objects or hit by stones."The settlers also stole 100 sheep," Abayat said, decrying "daily attacks" by settlers in this part of the West Bank.The Israeli military said there was a "violent confrontation" involving Israeli civilians who fired toward Palestinians."As a result of the incident, an Israeli civilian was injured and evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment," it said in a statement to AFP."Two additional Palestinians were evacuated by the Red Crescent for medical treatment."Israeli police had detained two Israeli civilians who fired their weapons, while three Palestinians were also apprehended, the military added.There has been a spike in deadly settler attacks in the West Bank in recent days, with at least five Palestinians killed since the start of March, according to Palestinian authorities and the UN.Violence more broadly in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, has also risen sharply since the October 2023 Hamas storming of Israel triggered the Gaza war. It has continued despite a ceasefire since October 10.Israeli troops or settlers have killed at least 1,045 Palestinians, many of them fighters, but also scores of civilians, in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war, according to an AFP tally based on Palestinian health ministry figures.
