KAHRAMAA launches Summer 2026 “Keep it Sustained” campaign for the conservation of electricity and water consumption and the promotion of sustainability

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA),, has announced the launch of its Summer 2026 awareness campaign under the slogan “Keep it Sustained”, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote a culture of responsible consumption and reinforce the principles of environmental sustainability within Qatari society. The launch comes in line with the summer season, which witnesses a notable increase in electricity and water consumption due to the intensive use of air conditioning systems and the growing demand for resources. This, in turn, places additional pressure on the electricity network and leads to increased loads during peak hours. The campaign aims to drive sustainable behavioural change in the use of electricity and water by raising community awareness on the importance of optimal resource utilization, contributing to the stability of the electricity network, and reducing carbon emissions, in support of achieving sustainable development goals in the State of Qatar. Campaign Pillars The “We Want It to Last” campaign is built around four main pillars to ensure a sustainable and impactful outcome:Electric Load Management: Raising awareness among consumers on the importance of distributing the use of high-load electrical appliances and avoiding their operation during peak hours.Improving Building and Appliance Efficiency: Encouraging the use of high-efficiency appliances and the adoption of smart systems to control and optimise consumption.Conserving Water Consumption and Air Conditioning Use: Promoting best practices such as setting optimal air conditioning temperatures and adopting modern irrigation technologies.Transition Towards Smart Behaviour: Leveraging smart solutions and technologies to monitor and manage consumption efficiently.Clear and Direct Awareness MessagesThe campaign relies on a set of simple and impactful messages aimed at supporting behavioural change, most notably:Improving the efficiency of air conditioning usage. Avoiding the operation of high-load electrical appliances during peak hours (from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM).Using energy-efficient appliances.Promptly repairing water leaks to minimise wastage. Programs and Interactive Initiatives The campaign will run over a period of three months (June – August 2026) and will include a range of initiatives and interactive activities, such as:Community challenges to enhance public engagement.On-ground events and field activities.Intensive digital awareness campaigns across various platforms.Partnerships with government and private sector entities.KAHRAMAA also relies on a set of performance indicators to measure the campaign’s impact and assess the achievement of its objectives. A Community Call for ParticipationKAHRAMAA emphasised that the success of the campaign relies primarily on community awareness and engagement, noting that every simple act of responsible consumption contributes to achieving a significant and lasting impact. The “We Want It to Last” campaign represents an open national call for every individual to actively participate in preserving natural resources, enhancing quality of life, and ensuring their sustainability for future generations.

Four Qatari cities win multiple awards at 15th Arab Cities Award

Four Qatari cities won several awards at the 15th edition of the Arab Cities Award, highlighting Qatar's advanced standing in urban planning, environmental sustainability, heritage preservation, and architectural excellence. Al Rayyan won first place for the Twin Minarets Project, while Doha ranked second in the Architectural Project Award. Al Shamal secured first place in the Architectural Heritage Revival category for the Restoration and Development of Al Zubarah Fort, and Al Wakrah placed third for the Old Al Wakrah Souq Development project. In the Environmental Health and Safety Award, Al Wakrah ranked second and Doha third. Qatari architect Ibrahim Mohammed Al Jaidah won first place in the Architect Award category, in recognition of his contributions to Qatari and Arab architecture, sustainability concepts, and the promotion of local architectural identity. The results were announced during a press conference attended by senior municipal officials and representatives of the Arab Towns Organization. Officials noted that the achievement reflects Qatar's commitment to adopting best international practices in sustainable and innovative urban development, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The judging committee reviewed 31 nominations from Arab cities and individuals, with strong competition across all award categories.

MoT strategy focus on sustainability, accessibility, digital transformation

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) Strategy 2025-30 focuses on environmental sustainability and digital transformation to ensure modern and inclusive transportation, a senior official has said.While talking to Qatar TV, Sheikha Dana bint Abdullah al-Thani, the head of the MoT’s Strategic Planning Department, said that the ministry’s strategy takes into account elements of environmental sustainability and digital transformation to ensure modern transportation that serves everyone.The MoT recently launched the strategy under the slogan Reaching Beyond Horizons.It features an ambitious roadmap focused on developing the transportation and mobility industry in Qatar and enhancing its role in economic growth, sustainability and innovation.The strategy is based on the ministry’s vision of “an integrated, secure, resilient, and sustainable transport ecosystem” and mission of “driving the development of the transport ecosystem towards high logistic efficiency while supporting the pillars of Qatar National Vision”.“The strategy is not limited to infrastructure, but rather focuses on people first and makes daily transportation a smoother and safer experience,” Sheikha Dana said. “The strategy takes into account elements of accessibility to serve everyone with high quality and sustainable efficiency.”One of the most prominent expected impacts of the strategy is reducing traffic congestion and travel time, which are hindrances to traffic safety, through developing roads and activating integrated public transportation while providing multiple flexible transportation options.These include public and smart transportation and bicycles in addition to improving air quality by reducing emissions and encouraging clean transportation methods.The MoT official said that the new strategy includes 42 initiatives and 152 projects.Sheikha Dana added that it represents a comprehensive roadmap for developing the country’s transportation sector, enabling economic growth through supporting logistics services and strengthening the mobility of people and goods as well as customer-centric services in addition to enhancing the utilisation of existing services and infrastructure.The projects and initiatives also ensure sustainability and resilience through policies and technologies that support reducing emissions and developing human capital.Sheikha Dana said that the strategy covers various transportation sectors including land and maritime transport.“There are supporting projects in the areas of digital transformation, sustainability and capacity development,” she stressed. “In its first phase, a group of vital projects and initiatives will be launched.”
