Qatar to Host Shell Eco-Marathon Regional Championship in 2026 and Inaugural Global Championship in 2027

Following the success of the 2025 Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East Regional Competition, Shell is proud to announce that it will once again host the event in Qatar in 2026, followed by the first-ever Shell Eco-marathon Global Championship in 2027.The 2025 edition, held at the Lusail International Circuit, marked the first time in the programme’s 40-year history that the event was hosted in the Middle East. The competition brought together over 60 student teams from 12 countries, showcasing cutting-edge innovations in energy-efficient vehicle design and reinforcing Qatar’s role as a regional hub for sustainability and STEM excellence.“Hosting the Shell Eco-marathon is more than a competition. It’s a platform for innovation, education, and global collaboration,” said Rob Maxwell – Managing Director and Chairperson of Shell Companies Qatar. “We are honoured to continue this journey in Qatar, where the spirit of ingenuity and sustainability thrives.”Both the 2026 and 2027 events will continue be held under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, and in collaboration with the Qatar Auto Museum. Ministry of Sports concludes its Summer 2025 activities with participation of 43,000 people

Ministry of Sports and Youth concluded its 2025 summer activities with wide participation exceeding 43,000 participants, through more than 750 sports and youth events organized across various regions of the country.The Ministry confirmed in a statement that the success of these activities was due to the combined efforts of partners from various governmental and private sectors, notably the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Municipality, Ministry of Social Development and Family, Qatar Sports for All Federation, National Cyber Security Agency, Education City, Qatar Museums, alongside numerous sports clubs, media channels, and other entities.The ministry emphasized the continuation of its community and youth programs throughout the year to reinforce the role of sports in society, supporting Qatar National Vision 2030 in building a conscious and active generation. In this context, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior, launched several summer programmes and activities to raise awareness and develop skills among youth. The most prominent of these was the awareness programme 'Aware Generation' which benefited 1,163 young men and women across 28 centers and youth organizations under the supervision of five trainers. Additionally, the Hina Salma Farm saw the participation of 4,686 young men and women from youth and girls’ centers, with an average daily participation of 158 attendees per center.In the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), the Qatar Scientific Club and the Qatar Society of Engineers organised the summer program STEM 2025 with the participation of more than 141 students. Meanwhile, the summer data camp, organized in co-operation with the National Planning Council, Qatar Scientific Club, and Microsoft, hosted over 100 students competing in 20 teams to develop skills in analysis and artificial intelligence. Furthermore, 1,800 young men and women participated in events organized by the Programs and Activities Department at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).The programmes varied between sports, recreational, and awareness activities, including events held at Lusail Sports Arena, Education City Stadium, Al Furjan playgrounds, and races in various public parks. Other specialised programs included 365 Days of Activity, Self-Defence Program, Steps Challenge, as well as dedicated events for youth and girls at youth centers.

QU, ExxonMobil Qatar launch 11th Questa edition

Qatar University (QU) and ExxonMobil Qatar launched the 11th edition of the Qatar University ExxonMobil STEM Teacher Academy (Questa) Wednesday, reaffirming their commitment to advancing STEM education locally.Established in 2012, the academy is the only international edition of the original ExxonMobil Teachers Academy developed in the US. It continues to stand as model of educational innovation in Qatar, with a particular focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects, a statement said.Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and QU’s National Center for Educational Development (NCED), the academy equips math and science teachers with integrative STEM approaches and instructional methods. Its overall objective is to inspire more students to pursue STEM careers, drive innovation, and contribute to a sustainable future for Qatar.This year’s academy brings together 60 educators from grades 7-8 across 30 government schools, in addition to 10 Teach For Qatar (TFQ) fellows. Participants will take part in a two-phase learning experience that includes a 42-hour workshop, followed by hands on classroom-based field training during the 2025–26 academic year. They will also receive personalised mentoring and coaching to effectively apply STEM practices in their classrooms.“Investing in teachers today is an investment in the future,” said Rashid al-Hajri, vice president, Government & Public Affairs Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar. “The academy goes beyond training; it’s shaping the next generation of STEM leaders. We’re proud to be part of this long-standing, renowned initiative, that has achieved remarkable outcomes over the years alongside our partners.”Since its inception, the academy has trained more than 550 teachers and 67 TFQ fellows, impacting over 22,500 students across Qatar. Looking ahead, the academy will develop select educators as master trainers and establish key schools as designated STEM learning hubs to increase its reach and impact across the country.“Our support for the Qatar University ExxonMobil STEM Teacher Academy reflects our commitment to providing quality education that inspires students and contributes to the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy,” said Maha al-Rowaili, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the MoEHE.Dr Huda al-Kubaisi, director, NCED at QU, thanked ExxonMobil Qatar for supporting Questa, a leading platform for raising awareness about STEM and empowering teachers.
