QICCA, QU's Community Service & Continuing Education Center sign agreement to enhance collaboration

The Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber and the Community Service and Continuing Education Center at Qatar University (QU) have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at establishing a framework for institutional collaboration between the two parties in implementing specialised training programs in arbitration, conciliation, and mediation.This partnership seeks to enhance the efficiency of arbitrators and promote professional awareness of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.The agreement was signed at the QICCA headquarters by QICCA Vice Chairman, HE Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al-Thani and Head of Strategy and Development at QU, Dr. Muna Al Marzouqi.On this occasion, HE Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al-Thani affirmed that the signing of this agreement marks an important milestone in QICCA's journey, emphasizing that it aims to promote and strengthen the culture of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in Qatar.He also noted that this partnership aligns with QICCA's strategy to enhance academic cooperation with leading educational institutions, both locally and internationally, based on the belief that such collaboration is a key pillar in developing and advancing the arbitration environment in the State of Qatar.For her part, Dr. Muna Al Marzouqi said that the agreement with QICCA aims to enhance the legal capabilities of companies and institutions, enabling them to manage their contractual relationships effectively and safeguard their rights in line with best legal practices.Al Marzouqi noted that, under this agreement, a series of joint training courses will be implemented in coordination between the two parties, covering areas such as commercial law, local and international arbitration, conciliation and mediation, and dispute management.She added that the agreement also includes a programme for the preparation and qualification of arbitrators.The 'Qualification and Preparation of Arbitrators Programme' is a comprehensive professional training designed to prepare national and Arab professionals to serve as certified arbitrators. It enables participants to gain an in-depth understanding of the legislative and institutional frameworks governing arbitration, as well as the procedures for forming arbitration panels and issuing and enforcing arbitration awards.The programme comprises five sequential training stages, combining theoretical and practical components in various aspects of commercial arbitration.These include drafting arbitration agreements, managing arbitration hearings, and preparing rulings and legal memoranda.Since its launch in 2016, in partnership with QU, the programme has graduated more than 320 participants, most of whom are Qatari professionals working in the field of arbitration, who have significantly contributed to enriching the arbitration landscape in the State of Qatar.

Qatar Chamber concludes program on qualification, preparation of arbitrators

The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber recently concluded the 'Qualification and Preparation of Arbitrators Programme,' held in cooperation with Qatar University's (QU) Centre for Continuing Education. The program, which was held at QU's headquarters, aimed to prepare and qualify Qatari personnel through a scientific and training curriculum focussed on arbitration. The program included five stages covering the concept of commercial arbitration and its practical applications, arbitration case management procedures, drafting arbitration awards and their key components, and practical training, including a mock trial with the participation of all trainees. Graduation certificates were handed over to the 25 trainees who completed the fifth stage of the programme, under the title 'Practical Trial.'

QICCA and ICSID explore possibilities of exchanging expertise in arbitration

The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) and the US-based International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) have explored the possibility of exchanging expertise to improve arbitration practices.As part of this, a delegation of QICCA met with Martina Polasek, Secretary-General of ICSID in Washington on the sidelines of the Singapore Convention (SC) Week on Mediation 2025. The move by QICCA and ICSID comes as part strategies to enhance co+operation and develop relations.The QICCA delegation was led by Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani, its vice-chairman, and also included Ibrahim Shahbeek, QICCA’s secretary-general. The delegation visited the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), where they held talks with the management team on future co-operation and experience exchange.The visit included a presentation of SIAC’s leading practices in managing arbitration cases and resolving commercial disputes through alternative means, which stand as a pioneering international model in this sector.QICCA’s participation comes within the framework of its strategy to strengthen international partnerships and benefit from global best practices in arbitration and mediation, thereby enhancing its capabilities and consolidating its position as a leading institution in dispute resolution in the region.The SC Week on Mediation has been a signature event in Singapore since 2019, focusing on dispute resolution, arbitration, mediation, and litigation. It serves as a key platform for thought leaders, experts, practitioners, and policy makers, to discuss emerging trends, address common issues, and deliberate on new innovations.

QICCA participates in Singapore Convention Week on Mediation 2025

A delegation from the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) at Qatar Chamber participated in a forum titled "Building Bridges in ADR: MENA meets Singapore”, held in Singapore as part of the Singapore Convention Week on Mediation 2025.The delegation was led by QICCA Vice-Chairman Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani and included Secretary-General Ibrahim Shahbik.The participation reflected QICCA's commitment to enhancing its international presence, showcasing its role in advancing commercial arbitration in Qatar and the Middle East, and exchanging expertise with leading institutions and experts at this global legal event.Speaking in the forum’s first session, Sheikh Dr Thani highlighted Qatari Arbitration Law and the Center's rules, showcasing Qatar's experience in promoting arbitration and supporting its development through various measures stipulated under Arbitration Law No. 2 of 2017.He also outlined the key features of Qatari Mediation Law and emphasised the role of mediation in resolving disputes, stressing that Qatar was among the first countries in the Middle East to join the Singapore Convention on Mediation. He noted that this reflects Qatar’s belief in the importance of alternative dispute resolution in fostering economic development and encouraging investment.The session also discussed the role of alternative dispute resolution institutions in shaping dispute resolution mechanisms and supporting trade and investment in the Middle East and North Africa region.
