Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani, the vice chairman of Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration’s (QICCA) board of directors, has been appointed as a member of the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) board of trustees.
CRCICA, chaired by Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, is an independent, non-profit international organisation established under the auspices of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO), pursuant to a resolution issued by AALCO during its 1978 meeting held in Qatar.
According to QICCA, Sheikh Thani’s appointment reflects his prestigious standing considering that “it is the first of its kind for a Qatari figure to join the CRCICA board. It also comes in recognition of Sheikh Thani’s prominent role in supporting and developing arbitration and dispute resolution systems at both regional and international levels.
The board of trustees comprises a distinguished group of leading Asian and African figures specialised in international arbitration, law, business, trade, investment, and international relations. Its members are appointed in consultation with AALCO.
Sheikh Thani previously served as vice-president of the Qatari Lawyers Association and as a board member of the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre. He also represented Qatar at the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a member of the Lawyers Admission Committee at the Ministry of Justice.
