Four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka advanced to the semi-finals of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament in Bad Homburg Open in Germany after a dominant victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova on Thursday.The Japanese sixth seed won 6-2, 6-2 in just 59 minutes to reach the final four of the grass court tournament just days from the start of Wimbledon.Osaka, the world number 15, is one win away from a first grass-court final of her career."Obviously I can't say that I've had much experience on grass, but I feel really good right now," Osaka said, adding that coach Tomas Wiktorowski, who started working with her last July, "is helping me understand grass a lot more, so I feel pretty comfortable at this point."Osaka was broken early in the opening set but swiftly struck back against the unseeded Russian.Osaka won eight straight games - a run which included 15 points in a row -- as she took the opening set and ran out to a 3-0 lead in the second.The 19th-ranked Alexandrova rallied to win her next two service games but Osaka closed out the match in just under an hour.Osaka will play Chinese world number 52 Wang Xinyu, who reached the final four when eighth-ranked Ukranian Elina Svitolina pulled out citing exhaustion on Wednesday.Romania's Elena-Gabriel Ruse also made the final four after a straight-sets victory over American Emma Navarro. Ruse won 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 15 minutes.  

World number one Aryna Sabalenka took down fellow four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets in Monday's night-session match to reach the French Open quarter-finals.Sabalenka produced an impressive display against a battling Osaka to win 7-5, 6-3 and reach the last eight for a 14th consecutive major tournament.The Belarusian is now the only Grand Slam champion left in either the men's or women's singles draws at Roland Garros."I'm mostly happy with the way I served and I was able to keep all the pressure on her," said Sabalenka."I didn't expect I would serve that great... I feel like I'm getting better and better with every match I play and overall I'm super happy with how I played today."She made it three straight wins against Osaka this year, having lost their only previous meeting at the 2018 US Open.Sabalenka will next take on Russian Diana Shnaider as she continues her bid for a maiden French Open crown and to banish the memories of her painful final defeat last year by Coco Gauff.Japanese star Osaka, again sporting the sequined gold dress she likened to the Eiffel Tower at night, has to make do with her best ever run in Paris ending in the last 16.It was the first women's match to feature in the French Open night session since 2023, after a run of 32 consecutive men's ties which drew repeated criticism of tournament organisers. Berrettini beats Cerundolo Former Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini, who has been plagued by injuries in recent years, booked his first major quarter-final since the 2022 US Open with a 6-3, 7-6 (7/2), 7-6 (8/6) win over Jannik Sinner's conqueror Juan Manuel Cerundolo.The world number 105 is the lowest-ranked player to reach the Roland Garros men's last eight since Igor Andreev in 2007."This (tennis) is the love of my life, I guess, otherwise I wouldn't keep coming back after all the setbacks, the injuries," said the Italian, playing at Roland Garros for the first time since 2021."There were moments it was really tough to come back and hit a ball... But now I'm back and it's thanks to them (his team), my character and my resilience."Berrettini is one of only two Grand Slam finalists left in a wide-open men's draw, alongside Alexander Zverev, after surprise early exits for Sinner and Novak Djokovic. The 30-year-old will next face either American 19th seed Frances Tiafoe or fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi on Wednesday.Italian 10th seed Flavio Cobolli overcame some late nerves to beat Zachary Svajda 6-2, 6-3, 6-7 (3/7), 7-6 (7/5) on Court Philippe Chatrier.Cobolli wobbled badly from 4-0 and 5-1 up in the fourth set, before finally getting over the line in a tie-break to reach his second Grand Slam quarter-final after Wimbledon last year."The match is never done," said Cobolli. "I'm happy but I'm still nervous."The 24-year-old will battle fourth-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime for a semi-final berth.World number six Auger-Aliassime is the highest-ranked player left in the top half of the men's draw and he laid down a marker with a dominant 6-3, 7-5, 6-1 success against Chile's Alejandro Tabilo.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka powered into the Indian Wells quarter-finals on Tuesday with a statement 6-2, 6-4 victory over former champion Naomi Osaka in a battle of Grand Slam winners.It was another straightforward, straight-sets victory for Sabalenka, who fired 31 winners with eight aces."Overall I'm happy that I put so much pressure on her, that I brought variety today on the court," said Sabalenka, who mixed her booming groundstrokes with effective forays to the net."I think she was a little confused in the key moments, and I'm happy to see that," Sabalenka said. "I'm happy that my serve worked well, on the return I played really great tennis."Sabalenka wrapped up the first set with two breaks of serve before Osaka began to find her rhythm.But the Japanese star was unable to crack the serve of Sabalenka, who saved both break points she faced in the second set and grabbed a break for 4-3 with a pair of forehand winners.It was just the second meeting between the two, both four-time Grand Slam champions. Osaka won the first back in 2018 on the way to her first major title at the US Open."That's actually crazy," Sabalenka said of the fact they haven't met more often. But she predicted there were more clashes in their future as Osaka, now ranked 16th, regains her momentum on the WTA Tour after taking off all of 2023 and having daughter, Shai, in July of that year.Sabalenka, runner-up at Indian Wells in 2023 and 2025, will continue her pursuit of a first title in the prestigious ATP and WTA Masters 1000 event against 10th-seeded Victoria Mboko.The 19-year-old Canadian saw off sixth-seeded American Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-1 to earn a shot at Sabalenka, who beat her in the fourth round of the Australian Open."It was a big eye-opener playing her in the Australian Open," Mboko said. "Hopefully I can hold my ground a bit more against her."'Completely speechless'Australian qualifier Talia Gibson's dream run in the California desert continued as she belted 42 winners in a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory over seventh-ranked Italian Jasmine Paolini.The 21-year-old's first victory over a top-10 player propelled her into her first WTA quarter-final.She'll face 14th-ranked Czech Linda Noskova, who swept past Alexandra Eala of the Philippines 6-2, 6-0 in just 55 minutes.Gibson, ranked 112th, used a late break to pocket the first set, closing it out with her 18th winner of the opening frame.Paolini sped to a 3-0 lead in the second as Gibson's errors mounted and it looked as if the experienced Italian, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, had seized control.But Gibson unleashed another barrage of winners in the third, including a stinging forehand service return on match point."Honestly, just completely speechless," said Gibson, who beat top-20 players Ekaterina Alexandrova and Clara Tauson on the way to the fourth round.Gibson came into 2026 with just two WTA main-draw wins and had to save two match points in a qualifying victory just to give herself a chance to bag a few more at Indian Wells."I know that with my aggressive game, often I am able to create a lot of opportunities for myself in points," she said."But that being said, I think I have surprised myself a little bit with how well I have been able to play for quite a few matches in a row." 

Jannik Sinner and Madison Keys made winning starts to their Australian Open title defences Tuesday but former champion Naomi Osaka made the biggest splash on ‌day three of the tournament with a dazzling entrance before her match.Sinner, who is aiming for a ‌third straight title at Melbourne Park, ‍spent only 68 minutes on court in his first outing of the 2026 season before Hugo Gaston retired because of injury while losing 6-2 6-1.The world ⁠number two consoled the weeping Frenchman and wished him ⁠well in his recovery before declaring himself delighted with the results of his off-season training."I was very happy," said the ‍Italian. "We put in a lot of work to be back on court and it felt great. Obviously not the way you want to win the match, but from my side I'm very happy to be back on court."Sinner showed some signs of rust at the start and was forced to save three break points in his opening service game before finding his imperious touch.American Keys made an even shakier start to her maiden Grand Slam title defence before rallying for a 7-6(6) 6-1 victory over Ukrainian Oleksandra Oliynykova.A double break down thanks to some untimely double faults, ‌Keys trailed 4-0 before forcing a tiebreak in which the unorthodox Oliynykova caused chaos with her deep, looping shots.Oliynykova brought up two set points but Keys erased the deficit with some trademark big-hitting to eventually snatch a tense tiebreak before racing through the second ‍stanza."I think at the start I just felt ⁠like I was playing ‌just a little timid and not really trusting my first instinct," said the ninth seed."I felt like I kind of kept changing my mind on what I actually wanted to do. I felt like I was reacting instead of having a plan of what I wanted to do."Oliynykova, who was playing in her first major, wore temporary face tattoos - blue flowers that matched her outfit and the court - but she was put into the shade in the fashion stakes by Osaka.In one of the boldest fashion statements ever seen on a tennis court, Osaka entered Rod Laver Arena carrying a white parasol with a voluminous trailing veil and wore a wide-brimmed hat above a long turquoise tunic with crimped white trousers.The 2019 and 2021 Melbourne Park champion's tennis was at times less impressive than her self-designed outfit but Osaka finished strongly to beat Croatian Antonia Ruzic 6-3 3-6 6-4 and ​take her place in the second round."It's modelled ‌after a jellyfish," she said of her get-up. "I'm just so grateful that I get to be able to do the things that I love. It's really beautiful."Leylah Fernandez, ⁠the 2021 U.S. Open runner-up, was not so fortunate ‍and exited with a 6-2 7-6(1) loss to Janice Tjen, who became the first Indonesian to win a match at the Australian Open in 28 years. TSITSIPAS RALLIES TO AVOID ANOTHER EARLY EXITThere were comfortable first-round wins for fifth seed Elena Rybakina, in-form Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Belinda Bencic and 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko.In the men's draw, 2023 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas had to rally from a set down to beat Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki and avoid a first-round exit for the second year in ​a row.Sinner's compatriot Lorenzo Musetti, the fifth seed, also advanced after his opponent Raphael Collignon retired while trailing 4-6 7-6(3) 7-5 3-2.Eighth seed Ben Shelton, who lost to Sinner in last year's semi-finals, beat Ugo Humbert in three tight sets while his fellow American Taylor Fritz, seeded one spot lower, needed four to get past French opposition in the shape of Valentin Royer.Melbourne Park's favourite Frenchman of recent years, Gael Monfils, bid farewell to the tournament for the 20th and final time after a 6-7(3) 7-5 6-4 7-5 loss to Australian qualifier Dane Sweeny."My journey started in 2003 with you guys, now we are in 2026 and somehow it's the finish line," the 39-year-old, who will retire at the end of the ⁠season, told the crowd after receiving a standing ovation."Thank you so much for this amazing ride."

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has presented an introductory video about the Qatar Sustainability Portal at Qatar’s pavilion in Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan.The video highlighted the country’s efforts in addressing climate change challenges and emphasised the importance of engaging various sectors in adopting responsible practices aligned with Qatar’s National Environment and Climate Change Strategy.
