Mowasalat launches Qatar’s first RoboTaxi service

Mowasalat (Karwa), Qatar’s leading transport provider, announced the launch of the country’s first RoboTaxi service under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport (MoT), marking a major milestone in the development of smart, sustainable, and technology-driven mobility solutions, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.The RoboTaxi service represents a new era of autonomous transportation, designed to enhance passenger safety, comfort, and efficiency through advanced self-driving technology.Each RoboTaxi is equipped with an integrated system of eleven cameras, four radars, and four LiDAR sensors, enabling 360-degree environmental awareness, precise navigation, and real-time obstacle detection. A built-in redundancy system ensures that the vehicle can safely proceed to the nearest secure location in the event of any operational anomaly.All operational and passenger data collected by the RoboTaxi system are securely stored and processed within the State of Qatar, ensuring full compliance with national data localisation and cybersecurity regulations.The service has been developed and tested in collaboration with leading global autonomous technology partners, combining international expertise with local operational and regulatory requirements to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency.The launch of the RoboTaxi service reflects Mowasalat’s ongoing commitment to innovation and its role in shaping the future of mobility in Qatar through advanced technology, sustainability, and service excellence.

Ooredoo, Mowasalat to modernise Qatar’s public transport with advanced digital infrastructure

Ooredoo and Mowasalat (Karwa) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to revolutionise Qatar’s public transport system with next-generation infrastructure, advancing Qatar’s digital transformation journey.The partnership is built on five key pillars: advanced Cloud Services, innovative Internet of Things (IoT) integration, seamless passenger Wi-Fi, enhanced customer support, and co-branded marketing campaigns.As a central component of the agreement, Ooredoo will provide its robust, NVIDIA-powered cloud computing solutions to Karwa. The migration to a sophisticated cloud infrastructure will enhance Karwa’s data storage capacity, offer unparalleled scalability, improve overall IT efficiency, and achieve significant cost savings.Furthermore, the integration of IoT technology will transform Karwa’s ‘Raheel’ fleet management system. The joint IoT initiatives will enable real-time vehicle tracking and predictive maintenance, leading to optimised transport operations, greater passenger safety, and reduced environmental impact.Thani Ali al-Malki, Chief Business officer at Ooredoo Qatar, said: “By integrating advanced cloud infrastructure, IoT systems, and next-generation connectivity, we are creating a smart transportation network that adapts in real-time, enhancing both operational efficiency and passenger experience to set new global standards for urban mobility.”Dr Hamed al-Shebani, executive director of ITC at Karwa, stated: “By integrating advanced cloud solutions and IoT-driven systems, we are not only enhancing the efficiency and safety of our operations but also enriching the daily travel experience for our passengers.”

Karwa takes part in MoEHE’s ‘Back to School’ event

Mowasalat (Karwa) participated in the annual “Back to School” event by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE).The two-day event at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) concluded Tuesday.Karwa hosted a dedicated booth that welcomed hundreds of students and families. The booth featured interactive games, puzzles and a Virtual Reality (VR) experience simulating school bus rides.Beyond the event, Karwa reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting the MoEHE with safe and reliable school transport services.For the new academic year, nearly 2,500 modern school buses are ready to operate daily, ensuring thousands of students reach their schools and return home safely and on time.Each school bus is equipped with advanced safety features such as GPS tracking systems, CCTV cameras, emergency communication tools, and safety alarms – all designed to provide parents and schools with peace of mind.Karwa also places strong emphasis on professional training for its drivers and bus attendants, who undergo various programmes covering safe driving techniques, child safeguarding, emergency preparedness, and first aid.This ensures that every journey is carried out with the highest standards of care, safety and professionalism.Mass Transit executive director Ahmed al-Binali said the “Back to School” event was a wonderful opportunity to engage directly with students and families, reminding them that “their safety and comfort are at the heart of everything we do”.“As we begin this academic year, Mowasalat remains fully committed to supporting the ministry in providing a safe, reliable, and enjoyable school transport experience for Qatar’s young learners,” he added.
