Paris Saint-Germain warmed up for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich by fielding a second-string line-up and throwing away the lead twice in a 2-2 draw with Lorient in Ligue 1 Saturday. Ibrahim Mbaye’s fortuitous early goal to put PSG ahead at the Parc des Princes was cancelled out by Pablo Pagis for mid-table Lorient, but Warren Zaire-Emery gave the hosts the lead for the second time, moments after coming on as a second-half substitute. However, a mistake by teenage debutant Pierre Mounguengue allowed Aiyegun Tosin to run through and score a second for Lorient, and PSG could not find a winner - even being awarded a penalty in stoppage time for a non-existent handball which was overturned by VAR. The result means the Ligue 1 title race remains alive, with PSG seven points clear of Lens who have four games remaining including at Nice later Saturday. Lens also still have to host PSG, and Luis Enrique’s side are focused principally on the defence of their European title as they face Bayern away on Wednesday after winning 5-4 at home in the first leg. “We needed the three points. This has opened up the title race a little bit,” admitted Luis Enrique. “It is very difficult in terms of motivation after playing a Champions League semi-final in an incredible atmosphere, but I expect more from my players,” said the PSG coach, who made nine changes here, with only Willian Pacho and Desire Doue retained from midweek. Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were unused substitutes against Lorient while Vitinha was rested entirely. Renato Marin, 19, made just his second top-team appearance in goal, and fellow teenager Mbaye made a first start in three months. Mounguengue, an 18-year-old forward, came on in the second half as PSG were held to a draw by Lorient for the second time this season. PSG went ahead on six minutes when Lorient goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo attempted to clear a Doue cross but instead played the ball off Mbaye before it rebounded in. Pagis converted the first equaliser for Lorient, the club owned by American businessman Bill Foley, also the owner of Premier League Bournemouth. It was 2-1 to the hosts just after the hour. Zaire-Emery had just come on for Fabian Ruiz when he controlled a Doue pass for his first touch, and then fired in with the aid of a deflection. But Mounguengue cost the home side two points when his loose ball inside was pounced upon by Tosin and the Benin forward went on to score. PSG, chasing a fifth straight Ligue 1 title, hit the post late on through Senny Mayulu as they dropped points for the third time in five home Ligue 1 games. Meanwhile, Marseille’s troubled season continued with a 3-0 defeat at Nantes which is a further blow to their prospects of Champions League qualification but gives their opponents’ renewed hope of avoiding relegation. Ignatius Ganago, Remy Cabella and Matthis Abline all scored in the space of nine minutes early in the second half as Nantes claimed a first win in nine matches and just a fifth victory all season. Eight-time champions Nantes remain in the automatic relegation places with two games left but are now just two points behind Auxerre in the play-off spot before their rivals play on Sunday. Marseille are on a run of four defeats in their last six outings and have slipped to seventh below Monaco, who won 2-1 at Metz. OM are four points away from a Champions League berth with two games left, and at this rate are running the risk of not qualifying for Europe at all. “We got what we deserved,” said coach Habib Beye, who insisted he will not walk away. “When you take on a challenge like this you don’t just give up. I will never quit.” Monaco revived their own European hopes by coming from behind against Metz, with USA star Folarin Balogun scoring a ninth goal in 10 league games to equalise before Ansu Fati’s stoppage-time winner. Metz have now gone 20 league matches without winning and the result confirmed their relegation. 

Senegal’s 17-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye has emerged as a potential future star for African football, and ‌his role as a super substitute at the Africa Cup of ‌Nations could yet prove decisive ‍for his team.One of a number of exciting new players on display over the last three weeks at ⁠the tournament in Morocco, Mbaye has made ⁠the biggest impact, featuring in each of Senegal’s matches off the bench.As they prepare ‍to face Egypt in Wednesday's semi-final in Tangiers, his impact will be part of the planning as Senegal look to advance to Sunday’s final. His powerful and pacy running, dribbling skills, and a sharp nose for goal have given Senegal a serious addition to their already much-vaunted attack."He’s a gem, and we need to nurture him,” said coach Pape Bouna Thiaw. "We know what he can bring to this team, ‌and we will do everything we can to ensure he thrives and is at his best.”Mbaye netted in Senegal’s 3-1 win over Sudan in the round of 16, officially becoming, at 17 ‍years, 11 months, and 11 ⁠days, the second youngest ‌scorer in tournament history. The youngest is Chiva Nzigou of Gabon, who was allegedly 16 when he scored in the 2000 finals, but has since admitted being an age cheat, although the record is not expunged.Mbaye, who turns 18 this month, was close to a goal in Senegal’s second group game against the Democratic Republic of Congo when he was brought on a minute after the Congolese took the lead in Tangiers.Eight minutes later, a surging run down the right led to him firing off a shot that the goalkeeper could not hold, allowing Sadio Mane to equalise. "He ​has this spark within him. He's ‌young, but you don't notice that on the pitch. Every time he comes on, he brings something extra," said Senegal ⁠teammate Krepin Diatta.Mbaye won his first ‍cap in November, in a friendly against Brazil, having one month previously played for France’s under-19 team, with Thiaw visiting him at Paris St Germain to persuade him to switch allegiance. "It was easy to convince the player. Ibrahim wanted to play for Senegal," said the coach.They had been tracking him from last season when PSG used him as a ​starter for their opening match of the Ligue 1 campaign. He was an unused substitute in the Champions League final against Inter Milan in May and this season has started eight times for the French giants, including October’s Champions League win at Barcelona.Thiaw says the experience of rubbing shoulders with Senegal’s top players will be beneficial for Mbaye. "He is in a squad where he has the chance to work with players like Sadio Mane, who has won everything and can guide him, like Kalidou Koulibaly and ⁠Gana Gueye, who are familiar with the highest level. Now, we need to protect him properly,” added the coach. 

Teenager Ibrahim Mbaye scored four minutes after coming off the bench to clinch a 3-1 victory for Senegal over Sudan in Tangiers Saturday in the first Africa Cup of Nations last-16 match.The 17-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward represented France at age-limit levels before switching his international allegiance to Senegal, where his father was born.Former champions Senegal will face Mali or Tunisia, who meet in Casablanca later on Saturday, in the quarter-finals.Rattled by an early Aamir Abdallah goal for Sudan, Senegal recovered to lead 2-1 at half-time through a Pape Gueye brace. Mbaye then put the outcome beyond doubt after 77 minutes.It was predicable result as Senegal are 99 places higher in the world rankings than Sudan, who were representing a country ravaged by civil war since April 2023.Senegal made six changes to the team that started a 3-0 win over Botswana in their final group match. A notable absentee was suspended captain and centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.Ghana-born Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah retained only one of the team that began a 2-0 loss to Burkina Faso - forward Abdallah.It was the first meeting of the countries at an AFCON tournament. They were in the same 2026 World Cup qualifying group, though, with Senegal winning at home and drawing away.Sudan rocked Senegal by taking a sixth-minute lead through Abdallah, a semi-professional who plays for an Australian second-tier club in Melbourne.It was a superb goal as the Sudan striker took possession just inside the area and curled the ball over former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and into the net.Sudan had qualified for the knockout stage as one of the best four third-placed nations despite failing to score in three group matches. An own goal brought victory over Equatorial Guinea.A brave save from Monged Abuzaid on 29 minutes foiled Nicolas Jackson, who is on loan to Bayern Munich from Chelsea, but Senegal equalised almost immediately.Former African player of the year Sadio Mane set up Pape Gueye, who equalised with a low shot into the corner of the net.Senegal were attacking continuously while Sudan had little to offer going forward in a match watched by Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe from South Africa.The Mauritanian referee pointed to the penalty spot after Ismaila Sarr was fouled by Abuzaid. However, the decision was reversed after a long VAR review revealed a Senegalese was offside in the build-up.Ismaila Sarr from Crystal Palace then scored only to be ruled offside in another let-off for the Sudanese.Abuzaid was constantly in action and did well to push away a Pape Gueye shot with an outstretched right hand as half-time approached.There was still time for Pape Gueye to score again, however, and give Senegal a half-time advantage in the Mediterranean city.The goal was brilliantly executed by the midfielder from La Liga club Villarreal three minutes into added time. He used his left foot to side-foot a cross into the net past Abuzaid.Senegal introduced Mbaye midway through the second half as they sought the insurance of a third goal. He made an immediate impact, latching on to a long pass and beating Abuzaid at his near post. 

Teenagers Quentin Ndjantou and Ibrahim Mbaye starred as Paris Saint-Germain returned to the top of Ligue 1 with a hard-fought 3-2 win at lowly Metz.Ndjantou scored his first goal for the club while Mbaye managed two assists, with Portuguese forward Goncalo Ramos and substitute Desire Doue adding the other goals for PSG.Four days before PSG play the Intercontinental Cup final against Brazil's Flamengo in Qatar, coach Luis Enrique rested a host of players for the trip to northeast France. Even though Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele was not deemed well enough to play after an illness, Luis Enrique left Doue, Bradley Barcola, Joao Neves, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier on the bench.Instead, 17-year-old Mbaye and 18-year-old Ndjantou were picked either side of Ramos in attack, and they did not disappoint. After a quiet opening, the game burst into life in the final 15 minutes of the first half.Ramos gave PSG the lead when he headed home a cross from Lee Kang-in on 31 minutes. On 39 minutes Ndjantou slid home Mbaye's devilish cross into the six-yard box. Just three minutes later, Jessy Deminguet lashed home for Metz from outside the area after a ricochet fell into his path.Danish goalkeeper Jonathan Fischer denied Ramos with a smart save to keep Metz in the game after the break. Habib Diallo had a chance to equalise just before the hour mark but shinned his volley from the edge of the box wide of the upright.Doue seemed to have sealed the victory for PSG when he raced clear from his own half, released by Mbaye, as Metz were caught pushing up at a corner. Doue ran 70 yards before calmly slotting past Fischer.A week after scoring his first goal of the season against Rennes, Mbaye hit the woodwork on 71 minutes. Georgiy Tsitaishvili gave Metz hope nine minutes from time with a curling effort from outside the box, but PSG held on.Lens can return to the Ligue 1 summit if they beat Nice – who have lost eight straight games in all competitions – today. Earlier in the day, Rennes moved up to fifth with a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Brest.
