The Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin arrived in Doha on Wednesday to offer condolences on the passing of HH the Late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.His Excellency and the accompanying delegation were received upon arrival at Hamad International Airport by HE Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim bin Yousef Fakhro and HE Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the State of Qatar Mohamed Noureddine Ismail.

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani received a written message from Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud Sunday, pertaining to bilateral relations.  HE the prime minister received the message during a meeting with Saudi Ambassador to Qatar Prince Saad bin Mansour bin Saad al-Saud. Separately, the prime minister held phone calls with the foreign ministers of Turkiye, Jordan and Ghana, reviewing bilateral co-operation and the latest regional developments.  In his call with Turkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral co-operation and exchanged views on regional developments, particularly diplomatic efforts to enhance security and stability following the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.  The call also touched on a number of issues of mutual concern.  The prime minister held a similar call with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, in which they discussed bilateral co-operation and ways to further strengthen ties, along with regional developments and the diplomatic push for security and stability following the US-Iran memorandum, as well as other issues of mutual interest.  The PM also fielded a call from Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic Jean-Noel Barrot with the two discussing bilateral co-operation, the latest regional developments, particularly in Lebanon, and diplomatic efforts to promote security and stability in the region following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran as well as other issues of mutual interest.  He also spoke with Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, with the two reviewing bilateral co-operation and the latest regional developments, particularly efforts to promote security and stability following the US-Iran memorandum, and other matters of mutual concern.

Wasteful Colombia saw off toothless Ghana 1-0 on Friday to become the final team to qualify for the World Cup last 16.The South Americans dominated the game at Arrowhead Stadium and had eight shots on target but ended up with just Jhon Arias’s early goal to show for their superiority.Now they can look forward to a meeting with Switzerland in Vancouver on Tuesday and a chance to reach the quarter-finals.Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey fizzed a shot just wide in the opening minute but that proved a false dawn for the African nation.Colombia were forced into an early change when Jhon Cordoba pulled up with an apparent groin injury and was replaced by Luis Suarez.Minutes later Ghana were forced into a change of their own when Alidu Seidu came on for the stricken Marvin Senaya.Colombia went ahead in the 14th minute after substitute Suarez showed persistence on the right flank and crossed for an unmarked Arias to steer home.That gave Carlos Queiroz's goal-shy Black Stars, who scored just twice in the group phase, a major headache.Colombia, roared on by a partisan crowd in Kansas City, continued to dominate, playing fluid, inventive football as they searched for a second goal.Bayern Munich forward Luis Diaz had a wonderful chance to double Colombia's lead in the 39th minute but scuffed his shot wide.Early in first-half stoppage time Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi produced a superb save from Johan Mojica's downward header.The half-time numbers made grim reading for Ghana - not a single shot on target and less than half of Colombia's 319 completed passes - but they were still in the game.Colombia made hard work of the second period, squandering a number of opportunities to finish off their opponents.Diaz put the ball in the net but was flagged offside before striking another shot straight at Zigi.As time ticked down, Juan Quintero flashed a powerful shot wide but one goal turned out to be enough against a side that failed to muster a single shot on target.Diaz, named man of the match, said Colombia were improving game by game, though he admitted they needed to be sharper in front of goal."We're just missing that little detail of finishing a bit better and staying composed," he said. "I think we played a very solid game."The winger, who scored 15 goals in the Bundesliga for Bayern last season, also admitted he had lacked composure in front of goal."I had chances to convert," he said. "That confidence I want to have isn't quite at 100 percent yet."I'm trying to improve game by game. I felt much better in today's match than in the previous one, without a doubt."  

Antoine Semenyo believes he is in the perfect place to thrive after scoring in each of his first two games for Manchester City. The Ghana international has made an instant impact since his £65mn move from Bournemouth last week and netted the opening goal in City's 2-0 League Cup semi-final, first leg win at Newcastle on Tuesday.Semenyo, who scored in a 10-1 thrashing of Exeter in the FA Cup on Saturday, also had a second goal controversially ruled out by a lengthy VAR review at St. James' Park. "The whole environment here is perfect. Everyone is confident and wanting to achieve the best. I have come into that and they helped with my confidence and made me feel welcome," said Semenyo, who now has 12 goals in all competitions this season. "It's been a lot but I have enjoyed it so far. I am picking things up very quickly and enjoying it. I am just taking the confidence I had from Bournemouth here and playing with a smile on my face. I am enjoying every moment."Semenyo also scored on his debut on Saturday in a 10-1 demolition of Exeter in the FA Cup. In previous years he would have been cup-tied after featuring for Bournemouth earlier in the competition. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe made clear his dissatisfaction before the game with a rule change this season that allows players to play for two clubs in the one campaign and City took full advantage.Rayan Cherki struck what could be the knockout blow to the holders deep into nine minutes of added time due to the interruption for the VAR review on Semenyo's disallowed goal. After a VAR review lasting over five minutes, the officials finally adjudged that Erling Haaland had prevented Malick Thiaw's ability to play the ball from an offside position.Despite taking a commanding lead, City were still furious at the decision with Pep Guardiola citing two penalties his side were not awarded in their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle earlier in the season in the Premier League."It should have been 3-0 but we are quite used to this at the moment," said City captain Bernardo Silva. "It is so frustrating because the last time we came here we also had a lot of decisions go against us."Guardiola showed his desire to reach the final for the first time since 2021 as Erling Haaland made a first League Cup start in three years in a strong City selection just days before they visit Manchester United in the Premier League.Newcastle ended a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy by winning the League Cup last season, but will need a heroic fightback to reach Wembley when the sides meet again for the second leg of the semi-final on February 4. 

His Excellency Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met on Tuesday with Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who is currently visiting the country.At the outset of the meeting, HE the Speaker of the Shura Council welcomed his Ghanaian counterpart, underscoring the depth of parliamentary relations between the two countries and affirming the Shura Council's keenness to further strengthen cooperation and coordination in various parliamentary forums.The meeting reviewed bilateral parliamentary relations and explored ways to enhance them in support of the shared interests and aspirations of the two friendly peoples, while reinforcing consultation and coordination at the regional and international levels.The two sides also exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest.

His Excellency Minister of Labor Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri met on Sunday with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.The meeting explored ways to enhance and develop joint cooperation, particularly in the labor sector.
