  Qatar Stars League champions Al Sadd will take on holders Al Gharafa in the final of the 54th Amir Cup today at Khalifa International Stadium, with Qatar’s most prestigious football title at stake.Having already secured qualification for next season’s AFC Champions League Elite by winning the league title, Al Sadd are aiming to complete a domestic double, while Al Gharafa hope to retain the trophy and secure a direct place in Asia’s premier club competition.Al Sadd are appearing in their 30th Amir Cup final and hold a record 19 titles, 10 more than nearest rivals Al Arabi. However, Al Gharafa have won both previous Amir Cup finals between the two sides - a 4-1 victory in 2002 and a 4-3 penalty shootout win after a goalless draw in 2012.Al Sadd have enjoyed an impressive run to the final. They defeated second division side Al Markhiya 2-1 in the Round of 16, overcame league runners-up Al Shamal 6-4 in the quarter-finals and then cruised past Al Duhail 4-1 in the semi-finals.Al Gharafa, seeking a ninth Amir Cup title, began with a 2-0 victory over Al Kharaitiyat before edging Umm Salal 2-1 in the quarter-finals. They booked their place in the final after beating Al Wakrah 3-2 on penalties following a goalless semi-final draw. 

Following Al Gharafa’s victory in the 54th Amir Cup final, Jassim bin Rashid al-Buainain, President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), Saturday congratulated the club for their impressive performance. “I congratulate Al Gharafa on winning the Amir Cup,” said al-Buainain. The final, played under the gracious patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, saw Al Gharafa defeat Al Sadd at Khalifa International Stadium." Beyond the result, the QFA President was keen to highlight the collective effort behind the event. “I truly appreciate the work of all our partners in making this final, our most precious trophy, a success,” he stated. “It caps off a successful and truly special season for Qatari football.” The QFA President also praised the technical and organizational standards on display, noting that the final coincided with a landmark anniversary. “This was a fitting celebration as Khalifa International Stadium marks 50 years since its opening, I extend my appreciation to every government, sports, security, and media entity that collaborated with the QFA to deliver a memorable experience for the fans in attendance.” Al-Buainain went on to acknowledge the tournament’s sponsors as essential partners. “We value the vital role played by the Amir Cup sponsors. They are fundamental to the competition’s continued success through their unwavering support. We wish them continued progress and prosperity.” Taking a broader view of the season, the President added: “I also congratulate every club that has won silverware during the 2025–2026 season. We’ve seen outstanding performances from clubs throughout the year. By any measure, it has been a successful season, and we wish them all the best in their future competitions, both domestically and internationally.” Finally he offered a special word of thanks to the local media. “I am pleased to express my gratitude and appreciation to Qatar’s media outlets. Your role as a core partner in supporting Qatari football, and in covering every event and competition throughout the season, is invaluable," he added. 

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani attended the 2026 Amir Cup final Saturday as Al Gharafa defeated Al Sadd 4-1 at the iconic Khalifa International Stadium.Following the match, His Highness presented Al Gharafa players with the Amir Cup trophy and gold medals, while Al Sadd received the silver medals.The final was also attended by His Highness Personal Representative of HH the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Excellency Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Excellency Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim, along with a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs and ministers.Among those present were senior officials from friendly countries, heads of Arab and international sports federations, members of the media and football supporters.In what turned out to be a commanding performance, Al Gharafa completed a 4-1 win in front of 37,823 fans. Captain Yacine Brahimi, the Algerian veteran, scored a hat-trick of goals. He scored in the 27th, 63rd and 90 +1 minutes. The first goal for Al Gharafa was scored by Tunisian Ferjani Sassi.For Al Sadd, the only goal of the match was scored in the 89th minute by Javairô Dilrosun.Saturday's win was Al Gharafa ninth Amir Cup title glory. Al Sadd have won Qatar's most prestigious football title 19 times."It is an amazing feeling. Winning two times in a row is really amazing. This group of players was the main focus. We had a strong mentality for this game. We know nothing less than a win will do for our fans," Brahimi, the Man of the Match, said Saturday. "We came to the stadium to win the Amir Cup final. It was a tough game. I thought we did amazingly. We wanted to give something to our fans because we couldn't win the league (title) but we had to do something great and we did," he added.

 The Qatar Football Association's Referees Committee announced today the appointment of referee Abdullah Al Athba to officiate the 2026 Amir Cup final between Al Sadd and Al Gharafa, slated for Saturday at Khalifa International Stadium. Al Athba will be assisted by Yousef Aref as first assistant referee and Zahi Al Shammari as second assistant referee. Nasser Ayesh will serve as the fourth official, and Falah Al Shahrani as the reserve assistant referee.Meshari Al Shammari will be the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), assisted by Mohammed Al Sharif as VAR 1 and Talib Salem as VAR 2. Al Gharafa qualified for the final after defeating Al Wakrah, while Al Sadd advanced by defeating Al Duhail in the two semi-final matches.

Al Sadd stormed into the Amir Cup final with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Al Duhail in a high-intensity semi-final clash at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium last night. Goals from Akram Afif and Rafa Mujica handed Al Sadd a comfortable two-goal lead at the break, putting the Qatar Stars League champions firmly in control of proceedings. Al Duhail responded early in the second half through Boubakary Soumare to cut the deficit, briefly raising hopes of a comeback. However, Al Sadd quickly reasserted their dominance. Captain Hassan al-Haydos, introduced from the bench, delivered a decisive blow with the third goal to kill off the contest, before Afif added his second and Al Sadd’s fourth deep into stoppage time. Al Sadd produced a commanding attacking display throughout, controlling the tempo in what was the seventh Amir Cup semi-final meeting between the two fierce rivals.**media[442528]**The victory sends Al Sadd into their 30th Amir Cup final, and will look to extend their record as the competition’s most successful club with 19 titles. They will now face Al Gharafa in the final of the 54th edition after the latter advanced past Al Wakrah. For Al Duhail, the defeat capped a disappointing campaign, as they ended the season without silverware despite their late push to salvage it. Al Sadd captain al-Haydos expressed his delight after the win, describing the performance as fully deserved. “I am happy with the victory and to reach the final of this prestigious tournament,” he said. “It was not an easy match, but we delivered a strong performance and achieved what was required.”**media[442526]**He added: “The Amir Cup is the most valuable competition for us, and we always aim to reach the final and compete for the title. I am pleased to have scored, and we hope to continue with the same spirit in the final against Al Gharafa.” Defender Boualem Khoukhi echoed those sentiments, praising the team’s preparation and focus. “It was a difficult match against a strong side like Al Duhail,” Khoukhi said. “Our preparation made the difference. The final will be a different challenge, and I see it as evenly balanced, especially against a team of Al Gharafa’s quality.” Earlier, holders Al Gharafa booked their place in the final after edging Al Wakrah 3-2 on penalties following a goalless draw at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Both sides created chances in a tightly contested first half but failed to break the deadlock. Al Wakrah thought they had taken the lead in the second half through Amin Zahzouh, only for the goal to be ruled out after a foul by Issa al-Aidouni on Ferjani Sassi in the build-up. With neither side able to find a winner in regulation or extra time, the tie was decided from the spot, where Al Gharafa held their nerve to prevail with goalkeeper Khalifa Abubakar emerging as the hero. Defender Ayoub al-Alawi admitted the victory had been hard-earned against a resilient opponent. “It was a difficult match against a stubborn Al Wakrah side that pushed us all the way,” he said. “We are happy to reach the final and thankful to the technical and administrative staff for their support.” Al-Alawi added that Al Gharafa, known as Cheethas, are determined to retain the title. “After reaching the final of this prestigious competition, our goal is to win the trophy again,” he said.
