Qatar Museums (QM) Chairperson Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has announced the establishment of the Qatar Fashion and Crafts Council as Qatar steps up efforts to strengthen its creative industries and attract investment in culture, fashion and design.Delivering a keynote address at the ongoing World Investment Forum 2026 (WIF 2026), HE Sheikha Al Mayassa said that the new initiative aims to connect local talent with global markets, spearheaded by Creative Hubs and supported by joint efforts from the public and private sectors.“It is a joint effort between the public and private sectors,” she said. “This will be an advisory council contributing to the strategic orientation of both sectors, enhancing investment partnerships, and opening new horizons for talents in Qatar and the region to reach global markets.”HE the QM Chairperson said that Qatar had spent more than two decades developing a comprehensive cultural ecosystem spanning cinema, theatre, fashion, design, digital production and live arts.She pointed to the country's fashion and design sectors as examples of how traditional heritage can be combined with contemporary creativity to produce distinctive work capable of competing in international markets.“Initiatives and institutions such as Fire Station, Fashion Trust Arabia and M7 have played a role in supporting emerging talent by providing platforms for guidance, professional development and creative collaboration,” HE Sheikha Al Mayassa noted.These programmes, she said, support nearly 200 designers and artists annually, helping Qatari and regional creators showcase their work internationally and expand their presence in global markets.She noted that museums worldwide now exhibit works by homegrown artists from Qatar and the region, while designs by Qatari and Arab creatives have reached international markets.HE Sheikha Al Mayassa also highlighted the cultural sector's economic contribution, saying that the QM supports nearly 7,000 full-time jobs.She added that data from Qatar University indicates 40% of students are interested in pursuing careers in creative businesses."These figures demonstrate the potential of creative industries to generate employment, encourage entrepreneurship and attract investment,” she highlighted.“In the age of AI, creative skills and the capacity for innovation are increasingly important for future jobs,” HE Sheikha Al Mayassa said. “However, talent alone cannot build a sustainable economy; creators need support, guidance, production, and distribution, which requires the integration of cultural institutions with the private sector.”Speaking at a panel discussion at the WIF 2026 on "Investing in Art and Civilisation", she noted that Qatar possesses the necessary assets to lead the creative industries, including high-end infrastructure and museums that inspire generations, foster creativity, and open up opportunities for learning and engagement with the world, alongside the nation's wealth of creative professionals and promising talent."It has been five decades since Qatar opened its first national museum, but really in the last 25 years perhaps, there has been a big shift from culture becoming an investment to culture becoming a necessity in human development,” HE Sheikha Al Mayassa stated. “And, the results speak for themselves."She underscored that there has been significant investment in cultural infrastructure, collections, and architecture over the years.“I would say, the next 10 years, I will be focusing on creative house and the talent incubation in order to really build the creative economy and create resilience to AI and the technology that goes with that,” HE Sheikha Al Mayassa said.“We contribute about QR3.6bn a year to the local economy,” she continued. “We also create lots of jobs. So we look at cultural infrastructure as the hardware and the software are the people that we are very much invested in.”Sheikha Al Mayassa added that, in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), creative skills and the ability to innovate are becoming increasingly significant for the jobs of the future.

Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries should co-ordinate industrial strategies, replace imports with locally made products, and build cross-border investment corridors to strengthen regional integration, trade, and shared business opportunities, ministers said. Speaking at the session on “The Future of Investment in the Gulf Region” during the ninth World Investment Forum (WIF) in Doha yesterday, ministers from across the Gulf highlighted the need to move beyond attracting foreign capital and create practical opportunities that encourage investment, expand manufacturing and connect regional markets. Bahrain’s industry and commerce minister, Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, said governments needed to take a more proactive role in identifying and developing investment opportunities based on actual market demand. Rather than simply promoting their countries to international investors, he said governments should identify products they can manufacture locally instead of importing. GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said the region should be viewed as an interconnected economic and investment system rather than six separate national markets. He cited the bloc’s gross domestic product of $2.4tn, external trade exceeding $1.3tn and sovereign wealth fund assets of more than $5tn as indicators of its economic and financial capacity. Albudaiwi also said foreign direct investment stock in GCC countries exceeded $792bn in 2025, including more than $171bn in investment between member states. Intra-GCC investment therefore represented approximately 22% of the total, according to the figures presented during the session. HE the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Sayed said that recent crises had shown how closely Gulf economies are connected and how their industries can complement one another. He said the GCC had maintained the movement of goods through alternative routes despite disruptions affecting the Strait of Hormuz, demonstrating the value of regional connectivity. He called for stronger links between industries, with the private sector playing a central role in using resources across the value chain to expand intra-GCC trade and manufacturing. The UAE representative also highlighted trade agreements’ role in opening markets and attracting investment. He cited the UAE’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs), which aim to reduce tariffs and improve market access for businesses. The UAE’s foreign trade reached Dh3.8tn, or approximately $1.1tn, in the previous year, according to figures shared during the session. Trade with CEPA partner countries contributed to non-oil trade growth, illustrating how market access can create opportunities for businesses and investors. Kuwait’s state minister for economic affairs and investment, Abdulaziz Nasser Abdulaziz al-Marzouq, said the region had the energy, capital, human resources and regulatory environment needed to develop high-value industries, particularly in technology. 

The Shura Council's Internal and External Affairs Committee and the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee held their first meetings on Sunday for the second ordinary session of the second legislative term, corresponding to the Shura Council's 55th annual session, and elected their deputy chairs by acclamation in accordance with Article 30 of the council's internal regulations.The Internal and External Affairs Committee, chaired by HE Yousef bin Ali Al Khater, elected HE Abdulla bin Ali Al Sulaiti as its deputy chairperson.Meanwhile, the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, chaired by HE Mohamed bin Yousef Almana, elected HE Eng. Ahmad bin Hitmi Al Hitmi as its deputy chairperson.

As many as 400 international business professionals and diplomatic representatives will gather in Doha Thursday (October 22) for a major networking event highlighting resilience and economic confidence across Qatar’s commercial sector.The upcoming edition of the biannual ‘Back 2 Business’ event will take place at the Pullman Hotel Doha West Bay, coinciding with Qatar Sustainability Week, according to Italian Chamber of Commerce in Qatar president Palma Libotte.Organised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Qatar, in collaboration with the American, German and French Chambers of Commerce, the Dutch Business Council, the German Business Council, LIFE and EO, the event reflects the strength of international cooperation and the shared commitment to supporting business growth in Qatar, Libotte said.Libotte emphasised the role of long-term community relationships in supporting regional business growth.“Back 2 Business stands strong because the community behind it stands strong. For 19 years, we have brought people together twice a year, building relationships that go beyond a single evening.“The response to this edition shows how much our business community values the opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas and support one another. Nearly 400 participants coming together is a strong statement of confidence in Doha and in the power of international collaboration,” Libotte stated.The event will feature open networking alongside a dedicated executive speed networking session designed to connect senior decision-makers and identify cross-industry synergies.Diplomatic representatives expected to attend include the EU ambassador to Qatar alongside the ambassadors of Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands.Libotte added: “The strong response to the event demonstrates that, despite regional and global challenges, Doha’s international business community remains engaged, connected and determined to move forward. Face-to-face networking continues to play a vital role in building trust, exchanging ideas and creating opportunities across industries and borders.” 

 The Central Municipal Council (CMC) has signed a co-operation agreement with the Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services to strengthen community welfare, promote volunteerism and expand humanitarian initiatives across Qatar.  The agreement, signed at the CMC headquarters on Sunday, aims to enhance co-ordination between the two institutions in organising community events, awareness campaigns and humanitarian programmes, while encouraging greater public participation in social work.  CMC chairman Mohammed bin Ali al-Adhba signed the agreement on behalf of the council, while the foundation’s CEO, Dr Ayed bin Dabsan al-Qahtani, represented the humanitarian organisation.  Al-Adhba said partnerships with humanitarian and community organisations were essential to advancing social development and ensuring a sustainable impact on society.  Speaking on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, he said the agreement would support the foundation’s humanitarian work by leveraging the council’s community presence and its members’ engagement with residents across Qatar.  He noted that the council had previously signed a similar agreement with Qatar Charity to promote social work and create volunteering opportunities within charitable and humanitarian organisations.  “Undoubtedly, social engagement, or community partnership, is a cornerstone of success in social work,” al-Adhba said.  He stressed that co-operation between national institutions and social welfare organisations was vital to strengthening solidarity and supporting people in need, including both citizens and residents.  Al-Adhba also referred to the legal framework governing the council’s work, citing Law No. 12 of 1998, as amended by Law No. 1 of 2011, which provides for cooperation with social welfare institutions.  He said the council is committed to expanding such partnerships as part of its broader role in community development and its efforts to support organisations addressing social needs.Under the agreement, both parties will explore opportunities to exchange expertise and co-ordinate initiatives that encourage volunteerism, raise public awareness and reinforce a culture of social responsibility.  The partnership will also draw on CMC members’ direct engagement with residents in their respective constituencies to help identify community needs and support initiatives tailored to local priorities.  The agreement aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly those related to social development, community participation and institutional co-operation. Al-Adhba commended CMC members for attending the signing ceremony and urged them to continue working with humanitarian and social welfare organisations, stressing the importance of supporting their efforts and enabling them to fulfil their responsibilities. 

The General Secretariat of the Shura Council Tuesday launched the council's redesigned website in the presence of His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim, as part of efforts to advance digital transformation and improve communication with the public.The new platform is designed to provide easier access to information and data on the council's work and activities, while encouraging communication and public participation.His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Shura Council, Nayef bin Mohammed al-Mahmoud, said the website's launch was one of the outcomes of the General Secretariat's 2025-2030 strategic plan, particularly its objectives of expanding public engagement and improving operational efficiency through digitalisation and innovation. He said the council was committed to strengthening its ties with the community and addressing issues affecting people's needs.During the launch, Director of the Information Systems Department at the General Secretariat, Hassan Youssef Abdullah, outlined the website's main electronic services, which are divided into two categories. The first allows users to submit requests to the council, including requests to attend a session, visit the council, arrange media coverage and conduct a press interview. The second focuses on public engagement through the "Sawtak” service, which enables people to raise issues and submit proposals to the council.Abdullah said "Sawtak” offers three features. The first, "Issues for Discussion,” allows the council to put topics and issues forward for public debate and invite people to share their views and proposals. Relevant council departments will follow up on and review submissions, with the results of the discussions to be published on the website after approval by the council.The second feature, "Opinion Poll,” allows the council to conduct polls on specific topics. The public can vote, and the results will be published on the website after the council approves them. The third feature, "Suggested Topics,” enables members of the public to propose topics related to the Shura Council's work and mandate, encouraging public participation and the exchange of ideas and opinions. The relevant department will receive and review proposals and refer them to the authorities responsible for decision-making for consideration and appropriate action.The Director of the Information Systems Department said all these services operate through Qatar's National Authentication System. Citizens and residents must register their details through the system to participate. The launch of the redesigned website is part of the General Secretariat's efforts to improve its digital services and expand opportunities for public participation, strengthening direct communication with citizens and residents and supporting the council's role in engaging with community concerns and aspirations. 

 The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has launched a project to upgrade its digital infrastructure, aiming to optimise system efficiency, advance digital transformation, and strengthen technical readiness and operational resilience.  The project was announced during a contract-signing ceremony between the General Secretariat and Qatar Detamation Systems (QDS) at the General Secretariat’s headquarters, attended by HE the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Ibrahim bin Ali al-Mohannadi.  The contract was signed by the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamad bin Ahmed al-Muhannadi, and Abdulrahman al-Darwish, CEO of Al Darwish United Group, which owns QDS, in the presence of senior General Secretariat officials.  The project aims to establish a state-of-the-art, integrated technology infrastructure that strengthens system security and data protection. It focuses on four key areas: upgrading digital infrastructure, bolstering business continuity, enhancing the security of applications and online platforms, and strengthening data protection in line with leading international standards and best practices.  Director of the Information Systems Department at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Alshayma Ahmed Almalki, stressed that the project goes beyond technical upgrades, laying the groundwork for advanced digital capabilities that meet evolving institutional needs.  She highlighted that it will also provide greater flexibility in adopting cutting-edge technologies and solutions, enhancing the General Secretariat’s ability to adapt to rapid changes across government operations.  Almalki further explained that investment in digital infrastructure is a cornerstone of long-term institutional development, noting that the project will establish a scalable, upgradeable technology ecosystem capable of accommodating future requirements and supporting continuous improvements in work processes.  She added that the project’s strategic value lies in translating this investment into tangible gains in operational efficiency, enabling departments to perform their duties more effectively and ensuring that technological advancements align with institutional priorities.  Overall, the project reflects the General Secretariat’s commitment to advancing digital transformation through secure, flexible technology infrastructure that supports sustainable institutional development.  It also marks a significant step toward an integrated digital workplace that accelerates service delivery and strengthens data-driven decision-making, in line with Qatar’s vision of an advanced, innovative digital government.  

His Excellency Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), visited Team Qatar’s para-athlete delegation today at their accommodation during the 5th Asian Para Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, which opened today in Japan and will run until 24 October, featuring athletes from 45 countries competing across 18 sports. Al Buenain was welcomed by Dr. Hassan Al Ansari, Secretary General of the Qatar Paralympic Committee. **media[505790]**During the visit, the QOC Secretary General met with the athletes, coaches and administrative staff, and was briefed on their preparations for the Games. Al Buenain praised the athletes’ efforts and commended their determination and commitment to delivering strong performances at the Games.He also reaffirmed the Qatar Olympic Committee’s support for the athletes, wishing them success and expressing his hope that they would achieve outstanding results.

The State of Qatar participated in the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baghdad, Iraq.The State of Qatar was represented at the session by HE Rashid bin Saeed Al Khayarin, Consul General of the State of Qatar in Jeddah and Qatar's Permanent Representative to the OIC.  

Sebastian Fundora defeated Ermal Hadribeaj with a final-round knockout to retain his World Boxing Council super welterweight crown in Las Vegas on Saturday.The towering 6ft 6in (1.98m) Fundora used his height and reach advantages to dominate his Albanian opponent in an attritional 12-round contest.Fundora sealed victory just before the bell rang at the end of the 12th round, flooring Hadribeaj with a brutal left hand that sent his opponent sprawling.Earlier, Hadribeaj had made a bright start, connecting with a series of stiff jabs in the opening round to rock Fundora.But Fundora asserted his dominance in the second round, wobbling Hardibeaj with a left hand and forcing the Albanian onto the defensive.Fundora continued to score regularly and a frustrated Hadribeaj had a point deducted in the third round for excessive holding.A flurry of Fundora uppercuts in the fifth round left the 28-year-old from California in control and he remained comfortably ahead on points over the closing rounds.Another Hadribeaj point deduction for holding in the 11th round left the challenger needing a stoppage to have any chance of snatching victory.But Hadribeaj's aggressive approach to the 12th round left him open, and Fundora duly pounced to floor his opponent after 2 minutes and 59 seconds of the 12th round.Fundora improved to 25-1-1 (17 knockouts) while Hadribeaj fell to 23-1-1. 

The Bureau of the Shura Council held a meeting Sunday, chaired by His Excellency the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah al Ghanem. The first meeting of the second ordinary session of the second legislative term, corresponding to the 55th annual session of the Shura Council, addressed a number of items on the agenda and approved the agenda for the Council's next session. 

The State of Qatar has condemned and denounced the Republic of Colombia’s opening of an embassy to Israel in the occupied Jerusalem, describing the move as a violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 478 (1980).In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the State of Qatar's rejection of any measures aimed at altering Jerusalem's historical and legal status quo.  It called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and take action to counter any attempts to impose a new reality in the occupied city, preserve its historical and legal status quo, and safeguard the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people.
