Jon Rahm continues to be noncommittal when asked about his interest level in LIV Golf 2.0, the vision of CEO Scott O'Neil to keep the league competing in 2027.In the week since Rahm said he was "more than willing to fulfill" his LIV 1.0 contract, the league has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In that filing, Rahm at $7.47 million had the largest claim among players still owed money, and he is reportedly still owed more than $100 million overall on his LIV Golf contract.While Rahm's contract was not automatically voided because of the bankruptcy filing, LIV has asked for court permission to reject its existing player contracts. Should the court grant the request, Rahm's contractual obligations could end at that point.Rahm is in England for this week's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club. He was asked on Tuesday whether his comments about honoring a contract with LIV 1.0 means he does not have a commitment to 2.0 yet."I said what I said," Rahm offered. "No, nothing's changed. It would be the same answer."The Spaniard known for his fiery disposition on the course said he is not fed up with questions regarding LIV, and laughed at the suggestion he is being very patient with the media's constant inquiries."It's not always the strongest of my traits, but thank you for that," Rahm said with a laugh.LIV Golf was bankrolled by the Saudi Public Investment Fund from its inception in 2022 until this year, when the sovereign wealth fund decided to pull its financing. LIV 'NOT DISSOLVING'O'Neil said that LIV's decision to file for bankruptcy is not a sign that it is dissolving, but rather a step toward restructuring under a new business plan.The league has an agreement in place with BC Partners Advisors for restructuring support. However, the agreement includes a condition that at least 50% of players with financial claims against the league must agree to participate in LIV 2.0 within 35 days of the bankruptcy filing. That group must also represent at least two-thirds of the total dollar amount of player claims.With the restructuring support agreement executed Sept. 8, that makes Oct. 13 a critical deadline. While Rahm is seen as a critical piece of the player equation, he's also focused on returning home after Wentworth with his wife pregnant with the couple's fourth child."There's a long legal process they have to go through before a lot of things fall into place. I really can't give you an answer right now," Rahm said when asked if his contract being voided would lead to him departing LIV. "I'm very close to expecting our fourth. Hopefully playing good this week, and at the end of the year."So, until this current season is done, I really won't be able to give you an answer." RAHM COMING OFF A TIE FOR 23RDRahm is coming off a tie for 23rd at the Irish Open. Depending on when his wife gives birth, he plans to play the Spanish Open the second week of October and then in the DP World Tour's season-ending events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.With commissioner Brian Rolapp saying on Tuesday that the PGA Tour is not planning any additional special pathways back for LIV Golf members similar to that accepted by Brooks Koepka earlier this year, Rahm was asked if a potential opportunity is emerging for the DP World Tour."To be able to answer that, I think we need to know how exactly LIV 2.0 is going to shape up," he said. "I think this is another opportunity for the DP World Tour to make some adjustments and gain some strength. That's 100%."I think the tour's in a good spot, and with the changes coming in the future, mainly in ‘28 on the PGA Tour, (DP World Tour CEO) Guy (Kinnings) and his team are going to have to change some things. But that always opens doors to strengthen some areas."I think this next year and a half, year, is going to be possibly important to hopefully elevate the DP World Tour a little bit more."

Jon Rahm is facing uncertainty on and off the golf course as he looks at the closing stretch of 2026 while trying to plan for the future.Rahm will tee it up at this week's Irish Open at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel, and plans to play in next week's BMW PGA Championship. What happens after that is dependent upon a slew of factors that are largely out of Rahm's control.The Spaniard returned home after last month's season-ending LIV Golf event in Indianapolis to "play dad" with his wife pregnant with the couple's fourth child. While speculation about Rahm's playing future has run rampant, he was asked only one question about LIV during his pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday, replying simply: "No updates since Indianapolis."LIV is expected to face bankruptcy proceedings as CEO Scott O'Neil attempts to lock investors into his LIV 2.0 concept. What that means for Rahm, and whether he would stay to have a stake in the league or is angling to get out of the remaining years on his contract, remains a major question mark.Rahm said that has not been his focus during his few weeks away from the course."I've been a dad, basically. I got a very pregnant wife at home who is feeling this pregnancy," he said. "Unfortunately, she was a bit under the weather, so luckily I was home and I could step in and play dad. So it hasn't left a lot of room for golf."But at this stage of the year, having a little bit of time off and actually dealing with reality and real life, it's very nice and needed. And I was very happy to be able to be home and just take care of my kids." RAHM DOESN'T KNOW WHEN HE WILL COMPETE NEXTOther than playing the next two events, Rahm has no firm idea of when he will compete next. Part of that will be determined by when his wife gives birth and if it conflicts with the Spanish Open the second week of October."It all depends on when the little one decides to arrive. I hope I can be there, but we will see," Rahm said. "It's one of those things where family always comes first, and as much as I love the Spanish Open, if I have to choose, obviously it's an easy choice. But it all depends on when the little one decides to come."The other part of the equation is the ongoing war between Iran and Israel and the United States. The conflict has already impacted multiple Formula 1 races and threatens to impact the DP World Tour's season-ending tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.Rahm, 31, is coming off his third individual LIV Golf title in as many years since joining the league. He signed a deal that reportedly has more than $100 million remaining on it, and he acknowledged in May that it has multiple years remaining. However, he may have an option to get out of that contract with LIV Golf planning to significantly reduce prize purses should it be able to conduct a 2027 season.As to whether he would be interested in pursuing a return to the PGA Tour if conditions allow, Rahm said in an interview with BBC Sport he's "more than willing to fulfill" his LIV 1.0 contract, but "time will tell."Rahm struck a deal with the DP World Tour in May to retain his membership and Ryder Cup eligibility. But even that event is a year out and too far in the distance to occupy much of Rahm's mental bandwidth."A year is a long time. I wouldn't say it's that much on my mind yet," he said. "I understand why, being in Ireland, a lot of people are already looking forward to it, because you have to plan in advance."But I hope I'm representing Europe at Adare Manor, I really would love to be there, but there's just so much time that I haven't really given it that much thought yet. But obviously we ... a lot of us obviously want to be there and represent Europe."  

A nervy Wyndham Clark birdied the final three holes to dramatically win the BMW Championship on Sunday, having earlier surrendered his five-stroke lead to Rory McIlroy. Clark had claimed his second US Open title earlier this summer by barely clinging on to a huge final-day advantage, and history repeated itself at the penultimate event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs.Having struggled all day, Clark finally made his first birdie on 16, followed it with another on 17, and watched on with relief as his final pair partner McIlroy bogeyed after finding two separate bunkers. Clark sealed the memorable win with a 17-foot putt for a third straight birdie, and a round of 70 to finish at 17-under par."It was weird. I wasn't really nervous. I was kind of like out of it, and I just was making just dumb bogeys," Clark said. "As much as I would have loved to run away with this, it was fun getting the juices going, and (to) really feel the angst coming down at the end," he added.Clark's five-shot overnight advantage had immediately dropped to three on the first hole at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, as he three-putted for bogey while McIlroy opened with a birdie. Gary Woodland then cut the gap to two, with birdies on two, four and five.A jittery Clark wobbled as the pressure mounted. He saved par on five after totally mis-hitting a simple fairway approach, then bogeyed the next hole after a heavy chip. The double Major winner then escaped with par again after hitting the lip of a fairway bunker on eight, before bogeying 10. McIlroy briefly appeared to falter, with bogeys on four and seven. But he pulled those back with birdies on eight and nine.And the popular Northern Irishman dramatically tied Clark for the lead with a perfectly judged putt on the 11th green that sent the crowd wild.'Chances'The two men exchanged pars over the next four holes, before Clark rolled in a 17-foot putt on the tricky par-three 16th for his first birdie of the day. For the third straight hole McIlroy narrowly missed his birdie putt, giving Clark a one-shot advantage with two holes to play.On the par-five 17th, McIlroy from deep rough yanked his ball into a fairway bunker, and found another bunker with his next shot, essentially handing the tournament to Clark, who birdied. "I don't think I could be too disappointed - I'm probably not playing well enough to be disappointed that I didn't win," said McIlroy."But I had my chances on the back nine." Patrick Cantlay - trying to secure his place in the final field of 30 at next week's Tour Championship - had earlier briefly moved just one back from Clark. His wild round including five birdies and three bogeys in his first 10 holes, before finding the water on 11 for a double, for his challenge to fade away.But Cantlay birdied the final three holes to grab second place on 14-under, and book a place at the season-ending event in Atlanta, Georgia. McIlroy finished third on 13-under, followed by the American trio of Chris Gotterup, Collin Morikawa and Gary Woodland a further stroke back.World number one Scottie Scheffler continued to climb the leaderboard after his nightmare, illness-affected opening day 72. He finished the tournament seven-under, tied for 12th place. 

Wyndham Clark surged into a commanding five-stroke lead at the BMW Championship on Saturday, bouncing back from an opening-hole double bogey to fire a superb round of 65.Having started moving day just one stroke clear, Clark left the field in his wake with six birdies, and an eagle on eight, at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri. The double US Open winner will enter the final day of the penultimate event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs on 17-under, joined in the final pair by Rory McIlroy on 12-under. "Overall, awesome day," said Clark. Clark's hot streak to score Saturday's joint best round was all the more remarkable given how his day began. After a bogey-free first two days, the overnight leader botched an ambitious shot from the lip of a fairway bunker and badly misjudged the green for a double-bogey on one."It was an unfortunate break... probably should have just chipped out and played for bogey," he said. Clark quickly regained the joint lead with Gary Woodland, his birdie putt just wobbling in on four, before a superb wedge from deep rough for birdie on seven.An eagle on eight from a pinpoint iron and 12-foot putt gave Clark a three-stroke cushion. And the American soared clear on the back nine, with birdies at 10 - thanks to a 30-foot putt - 11, 13 and 14. He saved par with a 15-foot putt on 16 but missed a simple five-foot birdie putt on 17 and then another par putt on the last to give the field hope."Got into a great groove and played amazing. I'm just a little bummed right now at how I finished on 17, 18," he said. With Woodland struggling, McIlroy surged into joint second. The Northern Irishman carded an entertaining 65, despite finding just four fairways all day.He had birdied the par-three third and escaped a wayward drive on eighth with a par after somehow bulldozing his second shot straight through both a tree and a bunker. Pushing the accelerator, the six-time Major champ's game sprang to life on the back nine, with five birdies - including a 26-foot putt on 16 - closing the gap to Clark."Playing this golf course from the rough isn't fun. But I hung in there. My short game saved me a couple of times," said McIlroy. "I'm in a good spot going into tomorrow in terms of where I'm at at the leaderboard. But it's going to take a heroic effort from one of us to catch Wyndham." He added: "I think you can be aggressive here." Scheffler stallsMcIlroy was joined in second by Patrick Cantlay, who birdied the 18th in a round of 66. Woodland and Chris Gotterup were a further stroke back, at 11-under, followed by Collin Morikawa. Woodland and Cantlay are both on the cusp of making the final field of 30 for the season-ending Tour Championship, taking place next week in Atlanta, Georgia.World number one Scottie Scheffler - who recovered Friday after briefly sitting rock bottom on an illness-affected opening day - made moves in the morning, reaching six-under par. But he handed two shots back with back-nine bogeys, becoming frustrated as any hopes of an improbable comeback vanished.Scheffler finished on five-under par after a 68. 

Rory McIlroy fired an impressive six-under par 64 to headline a five-way tie for the lead on Thursday at the BMW Championship, the second event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs.It was a welcome return to form for second-ranked McIlroy, who admitted he felt "lost" in a 66th-place finish at the St. Jude Championship in Memphis last week - his first start since he finished tied for 40th in the Open Championship.The six-time major champion was tied for the lead Thursday at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, with a trio of US Open winners - Gary Woodland, Wyndham Clark and JJ Spaun - and Chris Gotterup. World number one Scottie Scheffler, who was at his imperious best on the way to victory in Memphis last week, was meanwhile far from the logjam at the top.Scheffler hit just six of 14 fairways and 11 of 18 greens in regulation on the way to a two-over par 72 that featured five bogeys and left him tied for 44th - just one stroke better than the last-placed trio in the field of 50. Northern Ireland's McIlroy, who claimed a second straight Masters title back in April, picked up two birdies on the front nine and four coming home, including back-to-back birdies at 17 and 18."It's my style of golf course. I do well on these golf courses, they're big, they're long. You can get away with missing some tee shots at times," said McIlroy, whose birdies included a 10-footer at the par-five eighth after he recovered from a wild tee shot to the left.A pinpoint tee shot at the par-three 13th left him a seven-footer for birdie, and he took advantage of a big drive at 15 with a four-foot birdie putt. He reached the green in two at the par-five 17th and comfortably two-putted before rolling in a nine-footer at 18 for a final flourish.McIlroy said work since last week had him feeling he was "at least back on the right path" with his game and his swing. "It's certainly a work in progress. Days like this are encouraging, obviously. There's still a lot of work to be done."Woodland had set an early target with his six-under effort highlighted by an eagle at the 11th, where he holed out from 99 yards out in the fairway. Eagle bonus"I was just trying to get it past the hole," he said. "It's a little bit elevated so we couldn't see it go in. I knew I hit it nice, but when you see the crowd jump up, that was definitely a bonus."Woodland, the 2019 US Open champion, was seven-under after a birdie at 17 but gave a stroke back after finding a greenside bunker at 18. Spaun, the 2025 US Open winner, also reached seven-under, moving into the solo lead with his seventh birdie of the day at 17. But he was in the right rough off the tee at 18 on the way to a bogey.Clark, who won his second US Open title in June, joined the group on six-under with five of his six birdies on the back nine, including three in a row to finish. He launched the run with a 38-foot birdie putt at 16, two putted for birdie at 17 and drilled a six-footer at the last.Gotterup had three birdies on each side to complete the leading quintet, who were one stroke clear of Japan's Ryo Hisatsune and England's Matt Fitzpatrick. Alex Fitzpatrick, Ludvig Aberg, Michael Thorbjornsen and Jacob Bridgeman were two off the lead on four-under.  

Carlos Ortiz admitted Friday that the future of LIV Golf looks bleak, now that the Saudi group that bankrolled it said it will stop ‌paying the bills."It's looking a little bit ​tough, hopefully there's a ‌way forward," Ortiz said following his second round ‌at the ⁠BMW ‌International Open in Germany, a ‌stop on the DP World Tour."I mean, I honestly don't ⁠know all the situation, but it's not looking great, obviously, as we all know. That's a shame. I've really enjoyed my time playing all around the world and it's been awesome playing with my team."Ortiz, a 35-year-old from Mexico, has one LIV ​Golf win (LIV Golf Houston, 2024) and one PGA Tour victory (Houston Open, 2020). He joined LIV in 2022.He said Friday that ‌should LIV cease operations ⁠after the 2026 ​season, he knows he will come through just ​fine."We'll see what happens, you know, but whatever happens, I'm sure I'll find a place to play and, for me, it's just about playing golf," said Ortiz, a member of the LIV team Torque GC. 'WHATEVER HAPPENS IS TOTALLY FINE' "If I can start coming to places like this and seeing new places, then it will be great. For me, whatever happens is totally fine."After ‌36 holes at the ‌Golfclub Munchen Eichenried ⁠in Munich, Ortiz was in a three-way tie for second ⁠place on Friday ⁠at 10-under after back-to-back rounds of 67, one shot behind the leader.Joaquin Niemann of Chile, captain of Torque GC, struck a much more hopeful tone when he spoke on Friday. He told bunkered.co.uk that he plans to ​honour his LIV commitment in 2027."I know for sure he (Scott O'Neil, LIV CEO) is doing the best job he can to raise the money and keep getting the product that we have -- which I think is the best," Niemann, 27, said."Coming and seeing the difference on DP (World Tour) to what LIV has, LIV is great. But, ‌yeah, hopefully ​we can get the money and please the fans who hope we keep going."
