The Arab Parliament announced Sunday that it launched a broad international campaign across parliamentary, human rights, and international levels to confront the so-called execution law for Palestinian prisoners approved by Israel’s Knesset.In a statement, the Arab Parliament stressed that the discriminatory legislation represents one of the most dangerous forms of legitimising systematic political killing against the Palestinian people, describing it as a fully-fledged legislative crime that undermines international law and threatens the global justice system.Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Yamahi sent a series of urgent official letters to UN Secretary-General, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as heads of regional and international parliaments, calling for immediate and decisive action to halt the implementation of the law and hold those responsible accountable before international justice.Al-Yamahi stressed in his letters that the adoption of this law constitutes an unprecedented escalation in Israeli occupation policies, effectively institutionalising a new phase of systematic executions of Palestinian prisoners under a false legislative cover.He described it as a blatant violation of Geneva Conventions, international humanitarian law, and all relevant international human rights instruments, warning that any international silence or inaction regarding this law would be considered direct complicity in a fully-fledged crime, would grant the occupying entity political cover to continue its crimes, and would open the door to a serious collapse in the international legitimacy system and entrench a policy of impunity.He called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent measures, including activating international accountability mechanisms, referring the crime to competent judicial bodies, ensuring immediate international protection for Palestinian prisoners, and forming independent fact-finding committees to investigate serious violations committed against them in Israeli occupation prisons.He also renewed calls to suspend and freeze the membership of Israeli Knesset in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other international parliamentary forums, affirming that the Arab Parliament It will continue its political, diplomatic, and parliamentary efforts until the discriminatory law is repealed and the occupying authorities are held accountable for their escalating crimes against Palestinian prisoners.  

The State of Qatar participated in the 43rd session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, held Wednesday via videoconference.His Excellency Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al-Thani led the State of Qatar's delegation participating in the session.During the meeting, HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al-Thani affirmed that the convening of this session comes amid the complex security conditions witnessed by the State of Qatar and countries in the region as a result of the ongoing war and the damages - both human and material - caused by the Iranian aggression against the affected Arab states. This has doubled the responsibilities placed on security agencies, which have exerted additional efforts to safeguard public security and confront security threats, carrying out their duties with competence and efficiency.His Excellency added that the current phase, with its complexities and overlapping interests and regional and international influences, necessitates that Arab countries intensify efforts to develop joint security cooperation frameworks, strengthen channels for exchanging information and expertise, and activate training and capacity-building initiatives in line with the nature of contemporary threats. This is in addition to enhancing the highest levels of security coordination and unifying efforts to preserve the security of our countries and protect the achievements of their peoples..His Excellency affirmed the State of Qatar's commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at strengthening joint Arab action.Their Excellencies, and distinguished officials also discussed during the meeting various security issues and challenges facing Arab countries, in addition to reviewing the recommendations issued by previous conferences and meetings within the framework of the General Secretariat, the outcomes of joint meetings with Arab and international bodies, and ways to enhance security cooperation and coordination among Arab security agencies. 

The Arab League has strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on power and water desalination plants in the State of Kuwait.In a statement Monday, the organization slammed the attack as "malignant" and reiterated that any Iranian military assault on any Arab nation, whatever its kind or size, is "utterly rejected and deplored".It accused Iran of targeting civilian facilities, including water networks, energy and electrical facilities, transport centers, residential areas, and of "terrorizing" civilians.The league said such actions amount to a "flagrant breach" of law and its enduring precepts. It stressed that this act is tantamount to a full-fledged war crime under international humanitarian law, the consequences of which would be fully shouldered by the Iranian regime, including reparations for damages.As such, the Arab League reaffirmed that Iran should immediately live up to its obligation to implement the entirety of the content of Security Council Resolution 2817 and cease its attacks on Arab nations.

Dubai's super-rich have started fleeing the glitzy business hub by any means necessary, paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to escape a regional war they fear has no end in sight.The city in the United Arab Emirates has long welcomed the wealthy, who have been drawn to its low taxes, safety, luxury and business-friendly government.But with that reputation on the line as Iranian missiles fly overhead, some are stumping up huge sums to secure a way out, with airspace in the UAE partially closed."When we saw the fire, we said OK, it's time to go," said Evrim, a mother of two from Turkiye, referring to a blaze that broke out after missile debris hit a luxury hotel near her home on the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai's archipelago of man-made islands that have come to represent the city's ostentatiousness.She, her husband and her two young children are paying $200,000 to fly out of neighbouring Oman bound for Geneva, where they plan to wait out the war. To reach Oman's capital Muscat, they had to drive six hours through the desert."We were feeling really anxious... mainly because of the kids -- when they heard that bang sound they were scared," she said, referring to missile interceptions overhead.She felt it would only become harder to leave if the conflict dragged on, fearing that Saudi Arabia, which accounts for much of the region's airspace, may join the war.Dubai has built a reputation as a playground for the rich and famous, with the city home to the world's tallest building, an enormous mall with an indoor ski slope, huge theme parks and luxury hotels.But its status as a safe and secure hub in a volatile region is now under threat.Targeted by more than 800 drones and 200 missiles since Saturday, with three people killed, the UAE is bearing the brunt of Iran's retaliatory campaign across the Gulf. Airports and oil facilities are among the targets hit.Several foreign governments, including Britain and Germany, are sending planes to Oman to evacuate their nationals, as a reduced number of commercial flights are operating out of UAE airports.But many of the wealthy are finding their own way out."Demand is definitely increasing," said Glenn Phillips, PR and advertising manager for Air Charter Service, a broker that organises private jets worldwide."We have arranged a number of evacuation flights already, and have more scheduled today and tomorrow, mainly out of Muscat in Oman for people looking to get out of Dubai."He said prices were spiking due to a lack of airplanes as many were grounded at closed airports. Private jet operators are also reluctant to fly due to security concerns.The Oman route was the most popular, Phillips added, but congestion at the border with the UAE meant people were waiting three or four hours to cross.Available aircraft will become even more scarce if the war is prolonged, he said.Mike D'Souza, operations co-ordinator at Indus Chauffeur in Dubai, said demand for private cars out of the UAE had spiked among wealthy individuals from Western nations.Many were heading out via Saudi Arabia, where airports are still operating, though obtaining visas for the kingdom is a challenge for some evacuees.For those stranded on more modest incomes, the journey to safety is harder.One British expat, who declined to be named, told AFP that securing a commercial flight out of Muscat had been extremely difficult for himself, his pregnant wife and three-year-old son."Prices are extremely high and seats are disappearing quickly while you are trying to book," he said.They eventually managed to nail down a flight to the Indian city of Hyderabad, from where they will fly on to Thailand."While my son doesn't understand what is happening, it has clearly unsettled him, and my wife has also been anxious."That said, we absolutely love Dubai and consider it our home. We fully intend to return once our baby is born and things settle down." 

In a move to enhance the Arab presence globally, the Arab Federation for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Programming announced the appointment of Dr Bader bin Dalham al-Fahd al-Hajri as its president at an extraordinary meeting of its Board of Directors, with representatives from member states in attendance.This appointment reflects the federation's commitment to strengthening Arab integration in modern technology and supporting efforts to build a unified regulatory framework for AI.In a statement, Dr al-Hajri affirmed that the federation represents an institutional Arab framework that can help unify efforts among Arab countries in AI and programming. He indicated that the next phase will focus on developing a comprehensive strategic vision, including training and research initiatives, programmes to develop Arab talent, and preparations for launching joint projects with Arab universities and research centers.He explained that the federation seeks to help establish integrated Arab regulatory and legislative frameworks that bridge the existing international gap in regulating AI technologies. This will ensure the responsible and ethical use of these technologies and preserve the cultural values and strategic interests of Arab countries.He pointed out that among the union's priorities are promoting scientific research and innovation in vital sectors such as health, education, and energy, organising specialised conferences and workshops, and launching competitions and incentive initiatives to support technological entrepreneurship among Arab youth.He emphasised that AI has become a fundamental pillar of the global economy, and that strengthening the Arab presence in shaping international policies and standards is no longer an option but a necessity. He stressed that the federation will work to build regional and international partnerships that contribute to consolidating the position of Arab countries as active partners in shaping the digital future.This approach is in light of Qatar's strategic role in supporting innovation and digital transformation across the Arab region. Dr al-Hajri affirmed that the federation's vision aligns with the policies adopted by the State to attract high-calibre Arab talent. He explained that Qatar's advanced infrastructure and investments in technology and AI constitute a foundation upon which to build, supporting the federation's programmes and regional initiatives, thereby reducing the brain drain of Arab talent and enabling skilled individuals to work within an integrated Arab system.The council unanimously approved granting Dr al-Hajri the full powers stipulated in the bylaws, in addition to approving the redistribution of some leadership positions, which will enhance the efficiency of institutional work during the next stage, and keep pace with the rapidly evolving challenges in the AI and programming sector.

The Arab League condemned in the strongest rems the Iranian attacks on Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.In a statement issued Saturday, the Arab League General Secretariat considered the missile attacks a blatant violation of the sovereignty of peace-loving nations that have worked to achieve stability and have not participated in war. The statement expressed full solidarity with the Arab states in confronting these attacks and support for any measures they take to defend themselves and protect their people.The statement emphasised that Arab states have taken clear positions on the Iranian crisis by rejecting military action against Tehran, and Arab states have exerted tremendous efforts to mediate and avert the escalation being witnessed today. It also warned of the immense danger inherent in the current situation in the region, urging all active parties in the international community to work towards de-escalation as quickly as possible, to spare the region the devastating consequences of widening instability and violence, and to return to dialogue.

Amidst uncertainties surrounding the US-Iran talks, the Qatar Stock Exchange Wednesday saw its key index fall more than 19 points with four of the seven sectors coming under the bearish grip.The domestic institutions were increasingly net sellers as the 20-stock Qatar Index shed 0.17% to 11,270.62 points, although it touched an intraday high of 11,290 points.The telecom, consumer goods and transport counters witnessed higher than average selling pressure in the main market, whose year-to-date gains truncated to 4.72%.About 51% of the traded constituents were in the red in the main bourse, whose capitalisation was down QR0.2bn or 0.03% to QR672.22bn mainly on account of microcap segments.The Arab retail investors’ increased net selling had its impact on the main bourse, whose trade turnover fell amidst higher volumes.The Gulf individuals were seen increasingly net profit takers in the main market, which saw 0.01mn exchange traded funds (sponsored by AlRayan Bank and Doha Bank) valued at QR0.03mn trade across six deals.The local retail investors continued to be net sellers but with lesser intensity in the main bourse, which saw no trading of sovereign bonds.The Islamic index was seen weakening slower than the main barometer of the main market, which saw no trading of treasury bills.The Total Return Index was down 0.17%, the All Share Index by 0.11% and the All Islamic Index by 0.14% in the main bourse.The telecom sector declined 0.79%, consumer goods and services (0.73%), transport (0.38%) and banks and financial services (0.04%); while real estate gained 0.56%, insurance (0.24%) and industrials (0.08%).As many as 23 gained, while 27 declined and three were unchanged.Major shakers in the main market included Widam Food, Qatar Oman Investment, Meeza, Gulf Warehousing, Ooredoo, Salam International Investment, Woqod, Mekdam Holding, Estithmar Holding, Mesaieed Petrochemical Holding, Qamco and Milaha.Nevertheless, Mosanada Facilities Management Services, Ahlibank Qatar, Ezdan, Baladna, Vodafone Qatar, Industries Qatar and United Development Company were among the gainers in the main bourse.The domestic funds’ net profit booking increased noticeably to QR18.03mn against QR9.41mn on February 24.The Gulf institutions turned net sellers to the tune of QR7.32mn compared with net buyers of QR6.56mn on Tuesday.The Gulf individual investors’ net selling grew markedly to QR2.27mn against QR1.08mn the previous day.The Arab individuals’ net profit booking rose marginally to QR2.94mn compared to QR2.88mn on February 24.The foreign institutions’ net buying decreased significantly to QR34.55mn against QR48.03mn on Tuesday.However, the foreign individuals were net buyers to the extent of QR2.2mn compared with net sellers of QR3.31mn the previous day.The local retail investors’ net profit booking shrank considerably to QR6.19mn against QR37.9mn on February 24.The Arab funds had no major net exposure for the third consecutive session.The main market saw an 8% jump in trade volumes at 144.34mn shares but on 13% decline in value to QR406.39mn and 19% in deals to 24,007. 

Qatar participated in the celebration of the Arab Sustainability Day 2026, which was held Monday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo, under the theme ‘path of sustainable development: a decade of achievements.’ Amna Abdulrahman al-Sulaiti attended the celebration, representing the Permanent Delegation of Qatar to the Arab League. The celebration was held with high-level participation from representatives of the Arab League’s member states, along with officials, experts, and representatives of civil society organisations. The celebration included a dialogue session on the contributions of civil society organisations to achieving sustainable development goals in Arab countries, in addition to honouring a number of Arab figures working in the fields of sustainable development. The Arab Sustainability Day, which falls on Feb 16 of each year, aims to raise awareness of sustainability concepts and the achievements of Arab countries and various stakeholders in achieving international goals for the well-being of Arab people, and to highlight the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their objectives and ways to create a supportive Arab climate for them. 

The Ministry of Municipality has signed a memorandum of co-operation with the Arab Union of the Blind on the sidelines of the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ 2026). This step reflects the ministry’s commitment to strengthening community partnerships and empowering people with visual impairments in the projects it implements. The memorandum was co-signed by Assistant Undersecretary for Urban Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality Turki Fahad al-Turki, and President of the Arab Union of the Blind Dr Khalid bin Ali al-Nuaimi. The memorandum of co-operation aims to enhance collaboration between the two parties in supporting and empowering visually impaired individuals. This will be achieved through the exchange of expertise and knowledge, and co-ordination in implementing relevant initiatives and programmes, thereby enabling this group to actively participate in society and contributing to the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. The memorandum includes provisions for organising joint initiatives and activities, exchanging relevant information and data, and forming a joint working group to develop action plans and to monitor the implementation of programmes and initiatives, thereby enhancing performance quality. This agreement reflects the Ministry of Municipality’s commitment to expanding its partnerships with civil society organisations, contributing to the consolidation of the principles of sustainability and social responsibility, and enhancing the quality of life for all members of society.
