Qatar has rejected accusations "made by certain Israeli politicians and their contacts in the media" that it had interfered in the recently held Israeli elections. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's camp, which appears unable to secure a majority in parliamentary elections, has, without evidence, accused Arab parties of receiving funding from Qatar.Qatar has categorically denied the 'baseless accusations' calling it an 'excessive obsession with Qatar among certain Israeli political and media circles' that transcends logic. Responding to allegations on X platform, His Excellency Dr Majed al-Ansari, Advisor to PM and Spokesperson for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: "The State of Qatar categorically denies the allegations regarding its interference in the Israeli elections or funding of any activities aimed at influencing their outcomes, and rejects the accusations promoted by some Israeli politicians and media outlets affiliated with them, as part of a new disinformation campaign seeking to drag its name into Israel's internal political rivalries, against the backdrop of the elections held this week. We note the contradictions in these accusations, which range from claims of buying Benjamin Netanyahu's loyalty, to funding the Israeli left, and extending to influencing the votes of Arab voters, as if we, according to these allegations, control the entire Israeli political scene.He added: "We affirm that these baseless accusations combine absurdity with danger, and that the insistence on dragging our name into the electoral discourse in this manner reflects an excessive obsession with Qatar among certain Israeli political and media circles that transcends logic."We emphasise that we are not a scapegoat for the political failures of some Israeli politicians, and that it would be more appropriate for them, rather than attempting to divert attention toward us, to respond to their voters' aspirations and address the repercussions of their disastrous policies on the region."We reiterate our affirmation that we are not involved in the political and electoral competition in Israel, as it is an internal matter in which we do not interfere, and we will not accept being dragged into its disputes. We affirm that any government emerging from the elections is obligated to adhere to international law and legitimate international resolutions, to deal seriously and honestly with the Palestinian cause, and to respect the inalienable rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, foremost among which is their right to self-determination and to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital."We stress that these campaigns will not deter us from continuing our role in mediation, our diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, our support for the brotherly Palestinian people, and our commitment to working toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace that enhances security and stability in the region. We affirm our continued close co-operation with our regional and international partners to resolve conflicts through diplomatic means, and that silence will not be our strategy in the face of the exploitation of our name to serve electoral agendas or narrow political gains."Qatar is a key mediator in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians and played a central role in talks to halt the Gaza war. Doha is also leading mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran to end the Middle East war that was started by Israel and the United States in late February. 

 The State of Qatar participated in the annual commemoration of “Arab Document Day”, organised yesterday by the General Secretariat of the Arab League at its headquarters in Cairo. The event was held in co-ordination with the Arab Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (ARBICA) and with the participation of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO).  The State of Qatar was represented at the event by Mohammed Ali al-Dirham, member the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the Arab League. Held this year under the theme “The Palestinian National Archive: Memory Under Occupation: From Erasure to Preservation”, the event highlighted the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Arab nation. It shed light on the systematic targeting of Palestinian memory, amid ongoing violations and practices by the Zionist entity with the aim of erasing Palestinian identity, obliterating its cultural landmarks, and stealing or falsifying historical facts. The event underscored the critical importance of prioritising the preservation of Palestinian documentary and cultural heritage.  The commemoration of Arab Document Day, observed annually on October 17, featured an exhibition titled “Palestine in Arab Documents”, which showcased reproductions of documents related to Palestine held by various Arab archival and documentation institutions affiliated with the Arab Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives.  The event also featured the honouring of Palestinian institutions and individuals who have made significant contributions to preserving Palestinian memory. Furthermore, the League of Arab States was recognised for its prominent role in supporting the Palestinian cause since its inception, as well as for its efforts in safeguarding the Arab documentary heritage.  The event also featured a panel discussion titled “Palestine in Arab Documentary Memory,” which explored the role of the League of Arab States in preserving Palestinian documentary memory. The discussion covered efforts to safeguard and provide access to Palestinian heritage within the framework of joint Arab action, as well as the work of archival institutions in documenting the involvement of Arab states in the Palestinian cause. Furthermore, it addressed the protection of Palestinian national memory against erasure, with Gaza serving as a primary example. The session also saw the launch of an expanded edition of the book “Palestine in Arab Documents”, which compiles a vast collection of records concerning Palestine held by various Arab archival and documentation institutions, produced in collaboration with the Egyptian National Archives.  The commemoration of Arab Document Day in 2026, marking a quarter-century since the initiative was established by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) in 2001, aims to highlight the vital importance of documents in preserving Arab history and identity, and in safeguarding the collective memory and rights of peoples against erasure. 

The State of Qatar, represented by the Competition Protection Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has secured the co-chair of the Mergers and Acquisitions Working Group of the Arab Competition Network, reflecting its active role in advancing competition protection across the Arab region.In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Qatar secured the position during the fifth meeting of the Arab Competition Network's Executive Council, held virtually.The statement said the achievement strengthens Qatar's role in fostering cooperation and coordination among competition authorities across the Arab world. It also promotes the exchange of expertise, experience, and best practices, contributing to the development of competition protection frameworks and the consolidation of fair competition principles.As co-chair, the Competition Protection Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will help lead the working group’s activities, including developing its action plan, organizing specialized meetings and workshops, promoting knowledge and expertise sharing among member states’ competition authorities, and supporting specialized training programs focused on mergers, acquisitions, and economic concentrations. 

Syria will rejoin the Arab Group at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on November 1, after being part of the Russian Federation constituency since 2012, the Syrian Ministry of Finance said.The announcement follows talks in Bangkok between Syrian Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh and Central Bank of Syria Governor Mohammed Safwat Raslan and Ali Al Hosani, executive director of the IMF's Arab constituency, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group.The discussions focused on ongoing cooperation and joint projects between Syria and the IMF, particularly technical assistance and capacity building, as well as preparations for consultations under Article IV of the IMF's Articles of Agreement. 

Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Banks Dr Wissam Fattouh stressed the importance of Arab financial institutions drawing on the experience of Qatari banks, whose expanding regional and international presence highlights opportunities to diversify investments, strengthen cross-border cooperation and enhance competitiveness in a rapidly changing global economy.  Speaking to QNA, Fattouh highlighted the extensive international reach of Qatari banks and their investments beyond the domestic market, saying their experience could help other Arab institutions strengthen investment management, develop their banking operations and navigate diverse markets.  He stressed that Arab banks could draw broader lessons from Qatar’s approach to expanding internationally, diversifying investments and capitalizing on opportunities across regional and global markets.  Fattouh said Qatari banks’ extensive presence across regional and international markets offers valuable lessons for Arab institutions seeking to expand beyond their traditional markets. Exposure to diverse markets can also help banks better assess local conditions and risks, refine their business strategies and adapt to changing economic environments.  Fattouh cautioned, however, that successful banking models cannot be replicated wholesale across the region. Banks must assess each market’s economic and regulatory environment and adapt proven practices to local conditions.  He said learning from Qatar’s experience and other successful Gulf and Arab banking models could deepen financial cooperation, unlock investment opportunities and strengthen Arab banks’ ability to adapt to global economic and technological shifts.  Turning to the Gulf banking sector, Fattouh said Qatar’s experience should be viewed alongside those of other Gulf countries, whose financial institutions bring diverse expertise and maintain investments across regional and international markets.  He described Gulf banks as a key pillar of the Arab banking sector, noting that several have established a strong presence in international markets and pursued diversified investment strategies. Their cross-border operations provide a platform for deeper partnerships and knowledge-sharing in areas ranging from business management and financing to international expansion and financial services development.  Fattouh said stronger cooperation among Gulf banks could expand investment opportunities across the Arab world. 

Qatar’s young golfers enjoyed an impressive outing at the 2026 Pan Arab Junior and Girls Golf Championship in Egypt, winning gold medals in both the boys’ under-18 individual and team events at Madinaty Golf Club in Cairo from October 7 to 10.Daniil Sokolov led the way with a dominant performance in the individual competition, finishing 15-under-par after three rounds to claim the gold medal by a remarkable 15 strokes. He then teamed up with Kamil Benrokiya to help Qatar secure the team title, completing a memorable campaign for the national junior squad.Sokolov’s performance put him well clear of the field, with Palestine’s Abdul Halim al-Yaqoubi finishing second at even par, while Jordan’s Mohammad al-Rawashdeh took third place at three-over-par. The Qatari golfer was the only player among the top three to finish under par, underlining his consistency and control throughout the competition.Qatar’s success continued in the boys’ under-18 team event, where Sokolov and Benrokiya combined for a score of seven-over-par to take gold. Palestine and Libya shared second place at 19-over-par, 12 strokes behind the Qatari pair.The double gold marked a significant achievement for Qatar’s emerging golf talent and reflected the progress being made in developing the sport among young players in the country. The Qatari delegation was led by Fahad Nasser al-Naimi, Secretary-General and Executive Committee Member of the Arab Golf Federation, who praised the team’s performance and commitment.“We are proud of our junior national team. Winning gold in both the individual and team events reflects their discipline, commitment and team spirit, and gives our young players strong motivation to keep improving,” al-Naimi said.He highlighted the importance of consistency, concentration and composure in a competition that tested players over three rounds. “Our players delivered performances worthy of recognition. We see this achievement as an important step in the development of Qatari golf and as further motivation to provide our young talent with the preparation and competitive opportunities they need to build on this success,” he added.Al-Naimi also stressed the importance of the Pan Arab Junior Golf Championship, which is held annually under the umbrella of the Arab Golf Federation and provides a valuable platform for young golfers across the region to test their skills against strong competition.He said the results reflected the Qatar Golf Association’s continued efforts to nurture young talent through structured training and participation in international tournaments, with the aim of achieving further success at both regional and international levels.With two gold medals secured in Egypt, Qatar’s junior golfers have added another encouraging chapter to the country’s golfing progress, while Sokolov’s individual triumph and the team’s combined success provide a strong foundation for future competitions.   

The Council of the League of Arab States is set to convene an extraordinary session at the level of permanent representatives on Tuesday to examine mechanisms for providing international protection for the Palestinian people and ensuring respect for international law and relevant international resolutions concerning Jerusalem's legal status.The session comes in response to a request submitted by the State of Palestine to the Arab League's General Secretariat to discuss ways to set Arab and international efforts in motion amid escalating assaults by Israeli occupation forces and armed settlers against Palestinians and their property, with such actions being enabled and abetted by the occupying government and its military. Palestine's Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Muhannad Al Aklouk, said the request to convene the session came amid escalating assaults by occupation forces, which are pursuing a systematic policy aimed at displacing Palestinian communities, expanding settlements, and gnawing away at the prospects for a two-state solution. He noted that the session would address acts of violence targeting occupied Jerusalem and its international legal status, particularly amid some countries' decisions to open embassies in the city. 

The Strategic Foresight Forum opened in Doha today (Monday), bringing together officials, experts and young people from member states to strengthen youth leadership, strategic thinking and innovation.Organised by the Ministry of Sports and Youth in collaboration with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO), the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and the Arab Youth Council, the three-day forum, running until October 14, aims to equip young people with the skills needed to anticipate future challenges, adapt to rapid transformations and contribute to shaping the future. Speaking at the opening, Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Harmi, Assistant Undersecretary for Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, stressed the importance of investing in Arab youth and equipping them with the knowledge, skills and experience needed to navigate changes in education and the labour market.He emphasised that young people should not be viewed merely as beneficiaries of policies and programmes, but as active partners in setting priorities, developing innovative solutions and shaping the future.**media[503171]**Al-Harmi also announced the launch of the Qatar Youth Council, an initiative aimed at translating this vision into practical programmes that strengthen young people's capabilities and encourage their participation in future planning.He described the forum as an important platform for bringing together young people, experts and policymakers from different countries to exchange knowledge, build capacities and strengthen co-operation among educational and youth institutions.He added that the forum's success would ultimately be measured not only by its discussions but also by the practical initiatives and partnerships that emerge from it.Dr Salim al-Malik, director-general of ICESCO, highlighted the importance of investing in youth and providing educational and training opportunities that enable them to turn their ambitions into achievements and contribute to more prosperous societies across the Islamic world.He noted that the global population aged 15 to 24 exceeds 1.3bn, with more than 110mn young people in the Arab region, underscoring the need to expand access to education, training and meaningful participation in development.Meanwhile, Dr Issa bin Hassan al-Ansari, president of Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, stressed that developing education systems has become an urgent necessity amid sweeping global transformations.**media[503172]**He said the knowledge and skills acquired through general and higher education alone may no longer be sufficient to meet future challenges, particularly as artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies reshape education, employment, economies and societies.Al-Ansari emphasised that educational institutions must prepare young people for a rapidly changing world, where information is expanding, and knowledge is constantly evolving. This requires continuous learning and the development of new capabilities beyond formal education.Salem al-Mansouri, adviser to the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, also underscored the importance of investing in young people and equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to build the future and advance sustainable development.He highlighted the need to anticipate transformations in education, employment and knowledge, while preparing young people to meet emerging demands.Al-Mansouri noted that youth development remains a national priority for Qatar, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country's development strategies, which emphasise human capital development and the preparation of skilled talent capable of adapting to change and contributing to a knowledge-based society. 

 Qatar participated in the launch of the 14th Arab Cultural Development Report, issued by the Arab Thought Foundation under the title of “Arab Food and Water Security: Accumulated Crises and Promising Initiatives”, at an event held yesterday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.Qatar was represented at the event by Amna Abdulrahman al-Sulaiti from the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the Arab League.  Addressing the opening session, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said that the report reflects the close relationship between culture and development, noting that effective resource management and the rationalisation of consumption require public awareness, policies grounded in knowledge and foresight, and institutions capable of meeting future needs.  He said that water and food security are integral to the broader concept of Arab national security, emphasising that Arab water rights are matters of sovereignty and security, while also offering opportunities for co-operation in pursuit of mutual interests.  Fahmy stressed that water and food must not be used as tools of war or political pressure.  He underscored the need to move from managing crises after they occur to anticipating and preparing for them, adding that the General Secretariat is developing an Arab early warning and foresight system that connects water, food, and climate security indicators with political, economic, social, and security dimensions.  Fahmy also described Arab integration in this field as a practical necessity, calling for the region’s diverse capabilities and expertise to be harnessed in building a joint Arab capacity that is better prepared and more effective in addressing risks and challenges.  He stressed that the initiative should not end with the report’s launch, but should serve as a starting point for turning its ideas and recommendations into practical proposals that strengthen the institutions and mechanisms of joint Arab action. 

His Excellency Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Chairman of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, and Chair of the Arab Permanent Committee for International Humanitarian Law Saeed bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi met with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Nabil Fahmy. The meeting took place on the sidelines of a workshop in Cairo on the national implementation of international humanitarian law.The two sides reviewed the work program of the Arab Permanent Committee for International Humanitarian Law and discussed ways to strengthen its regional role in promoting the principles and culture of international humanitarian law and raising awareness of its provisions, thereby supporting Arab states in implementing the law at the national level.The Secretary-General welcomed Qatar's chairmanship of the Arab Permanent Committee for International Humanitarian Law, reaffirming his support for the Committee and pledging the resources needed to fulfill its mandate, strengthen its role in advancing international humanitarian law, and raise awareness of its principles across Arab states, in a way that contributes to the Committee's success and advance its founding objectives. 

Contemporary Arab art should not be defined by a single narrative or set of expectations, according to Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art director Zeina Arida, who said international exhibitions can help place artists from the region within broader global conversations.Arida said one misconception about contemporary Arab art is the assumption that artists from the region share one story or are expected to address their work through a common lens.“The Arab world encompasses many different histories, societies and artistic traditions, and contemporary artists and filmmakers approach their work from equally diverse perspectives,” she said.She was speaking about Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices, a multidisciplinary exhibition bringing together more than 40 artists and filmmakers from the Arab world, Africa and Southeast Asia.For Arida, the exhibition's diversity matters because it lets audiences encounter Arab artists alongside creative voices from other regions, rather than viewing the Arab world in isolation.She said this approach also reflects the complementary roles of three Qatar Museums institutions involved in the project: Mathaf, the future Art Mill Museum and Doha Film Institute.Mathaf contributes its engagement with modern and contemporary art from the Arab world, while the future Art Mill Museum brings a broader international and multidisciplinary perspective. DFI, meanwhile, has spent years supporting filmmakers and storytelling from the region and beyond.The collaboration also reflects a changing relationship between cinema and contemporary art.Arida said artists increasingly move between film, video, documentary, fiction and installation, making it less useful to maintain rigid distinctions between traditional artistic categories.“Artists increasingly move between film, video, documentary, fiction and installation, and Your Ghosts Are Mine embraces that fluidity rather than trying to separate these practices,” she said.For Mathaf, she added, such openness is central to the role of a museum in contemporary culture.“Museums should be places where established categories can be questioned and where audiences can encounter different artistic languages,” Arida said.She said the approach also connects with the vision of the future Art Mill Museum, particularly its ambition to integrate cinema more fully into the history and presentation of art.Arida sees Mathaf's international role as extending beyond presenting Arab art to audiences unfamiliar with the region. The museum also seeks to explore the connections between Arab artistic histories and those of other parts of the world.“Artists, filmmakers and ideas have always moved across borders, and part of our role is to explore those connections and place artistic practices from the region within wider global conversations,” she said.The exhibition's presentation in Chile therefore represents a two-way exchange, she said. While audiences encounter artistic voices and histories that may be less familiar to them, their own perspectives can generate new interpretations of the works.Arida said Qatar Museums' institutional structure makes such exchanges possible by bringing together organisations with different areas of expertise.For Mathaf, she said, the broader objective is to create meaningful encounters among artists, ideas, institutions and audiences.Years of Culture initiatives can provide a framework for taking those conversations internationally, but Arida said their value ultimately depends on what follows.“The strongest legacy is when those relationships continue beyond the designated year and lead to further exchange, research and collaboration,” she said.She said this longer-term approach could help build sustained relationships among cultural institutions, artists, filmmakers and researchers rather than limiting cultural partnerships to individual exhibitions or designated calendar years.
