Japan’s ties with Qatar have strengthened on several economic fronts over the past year, and the country is now seeing more visitors from the Gulf region than at any previous point, new data from the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) shows.A recent JNTO statement revealed that visitor arrivals from the six GCC countries reached 55,924 in 2025, a 25.2% rise from the year before, outpacing the 15.8% global growth rate that pushed Japan’s total international arrivals to a record 42.68mn.The figures released by JNTO arrived weeks after Japanese ambassador Naoto Hisajima highlighted the breadth of economic activity now connecting the two countries, from energy to investment, during Emperor Naruhito’s birthday reception in Doha held in February.Among the milestones announced by Hisajima was the 27-year Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) signed in February between Japanese energy company JERA and QatarEnergy for the supply of up to “3mn tonnes per annum” (MTPA) of LNG from Qatar to Japan.It can be recalled that on the sidelines of the 21st International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG 2026) held in Doha, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, who is also the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and Global CEO and chair of Jera Inc, Yukio Kani, signed the agreement, in the presence of senior executives from both companies.According to the ambassador, new capital from the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has also recently been channelled into Japan, with private-sector facility investments from Qatar exceeding $6.5bn across 2023 and 2024.Hisajima also encouraged Qatari investors to explore Japanese government programmes, including the Programme for Promotion of Foreign Direct Investment in Japan 2025 and the Japan External Trade Organisation’s (JETRO) "Invest in Japan" initiative.Highlighting the growing interest in Japan among travellers from the Gulf region, JNTO stated that demand from GCC travellers has carried into 2026, and that the momentum is driven by Japan’s seasonal appeal and improved air connections across the Gulf.For the summer months, JNTO is directing Gulf visitors toward Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, where temperatures stay mild and the scenery shifts from ski runs to flower fields and national parks.Hokkaido is around 90 minutes from Tokyo by domestic flight, landing at New Chitose Airport. The island is known in summer for the flower fields of Furano and Biei, volcanic lakes, hot springs, and Ainu cultural sites. Visitors to the Niseko area and Lake Akan can also find private resort stays and wellness retreats set against open countryside. The island is also home to the indigenous Ainu people, whose traditions, craftsmanship, and history offer a cultural dimension rarely found elsewhere in Japan, JNTO stated.The food scene is another draw, JNTO pointed out, noting that Hokkaido is celebrated for fresh seafood, premium dairy produce, and soft-serve ice cream. In Sapporo, the regional capital, the dining options include Muslim-friendly choices such as halal wagyu ramen.JNTO’s executive director for the Dubai office, Kobayashi Daisuke, said Japan welcomes visitors year-round and that Hokkaido remains a particular recommendation for Gulf travellers during the summer months for its cool climate, outdoor options, and quality of food and accommodation. The organisation would continue working with partners across the GCC to raise awareness of Japan as a travel destination, he said.“JNTO will continue working closely with partners across the GCC to strengthen awareness of Japan and provide reliable information and comfortable travel experiences,” stated Kobayashi, adding that “JNTO will continue its promotional activities in cooperation with local stakeholders and partners across the GCC.” 

Team Qatar successfully completed its first-ever appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Sunday, reaching the chequered flag after an impressive and determined performance in one of motorsport’s most prestigious events. Competing at Le Mans for the first time, Team Qatar by Iron Lynx rose to the challenge of the iconic endurance race with pace and professionalism, bringing home the Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 entry after more than 320 laps of the Circuit de la Sarthe. Starting 12th on the LMGT3 starting grid, the car shared by Abdulla al-Khelaifi, Julian Hanses and Giuliano Alesi established itself in the fight from the opening stages of the race, immediately settling into the rhythm of the twice-around-the-clock contest. Team Qatar climbed the order of the ultra-competitive class, rising to as high as second place at one stage - a remarkable achievement for a team making its Le Mans debut. As the race evolved, in hot, clear conditions, the team executed its strategy perfectly, with Hanses taking over from Abdulla’s initial triple stint, before Alesi continued the momentum into the night. Navigating traffic, yellow flags, Safety Cars, and more than 30 pit stops for fuel, tyres and driver changes, Team Qatar remained firmly in contention for a strong finish. CAR INTO GARAGE FOR REPAIRS But as the 24-hour race continued, suspension issues forced the car into the garage for repairs. Despite losing valuable time, the decision was taken to rectify the problem and continue to the finish, underlining the perseverance and resilience that have characterised the team’s efforts throughout the week. To epitomise how gruelling this race is, eight runners from the class were forced to retire. "It was an emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end. I was very happy that we stuck to the race and made it to the finish. I'm really proud of my team-mates and everyone at Team Qatar and Iron Lynx,” said Abdulla al-Khelaifi. “This is a historic moment for the whole team, and to get to the finish, we never gave up.” Giuliano Alesi said: “The whole event with Team Qatar was really special, and I really enjoyed working with the team and experiencing the energy of the track, the car, the fans, and the night sessions as well. Everything was amazing! Overall, it was a positive race and I’m super happy to get to the finish which was our ultimate goal.” “The 24 Hours of Le Mans was unbelievable, I learnt so much throughout the whole race: about race strategy, managing tyres - it was incredible,” said Julian Hanses. “At the beginning fighting for positions was very enjoyable and then getting back on track and collect as much data and as many laps as possible to gain experience and learn from this race. Thanks to the whole of Team Qatar, Iron Lynx and Mercedes-AMG Motorsport for the great support.” The Team Qatar by Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG ultimately crossed the finish line to complete the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMGT3 class, but the final result only told part of the story. From securing a place in Hyperpole qualifying to demonstrating pace throughout the race, reaching the finish on Team Qatar’s first attempt represented a historic moment for Qatari motorsport. With a project developed through the vision and support of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, a debut Le Mans entry has provided a platform for Qatar’s Abdulla al-Khelaifi to compete on one of motorsport’s biggest stages, alongside some of the most famous manufacturers and top drivers in the world. 'IMPORTANT MOMENT FOR QATARI MOTORSPORT' “This weekend represents an important moment for Qatari motorsport. We set out a vision to compete at the highest levels of international racing, and to see Team Qatar reach the finish of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the very first time is a source of enormous pride,” said Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Latif al-Mannai, President of QMMF and LIC. “Over the course of the week, we have demonstrated pace, professionalism and resilience, competing alongside some of the best teams in endurance racing.” “I would like to congratulate Abdulla, Julian and Giuliano as well as Morgan Caron, the QMMF Racing Team Manager and every member of Team Qatar by Iron Lynx for their determination, dedication and hard work across the week and in particular over the past 24 hours. I have been impressed by how everyone has responded to adversity, remained united and determined to achieve our goals. Those qualities reflect the values of Qatar and will inspire future generations.” The LMGT3 class was ultimately won by the TF Sport Corvette Z06 piloted by Jonny Edgar, Nicky Catsburg and Ben Keating. In LMP2, victory went to the number 43 Oreca-Gibson run by Inter Europol piloted by Tom Dillmann, Nicholas Yelloly and Jakub Smiechowski. The outright winner of the 94th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans went to the Toyota TR010 driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck De Vries.

Qatar Reads, a national initiative under the Qatar National Library (QNL) dedicated to fostering a culture of reading across the country, has announced the launch of a new research-driven initiative under its “Parents-to-Bep Programme, in collaboration with the Women’s Wellness and Research Centre (WWRC) at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) as the research partners.At the heart of the programme is the Parents-to-Be kit, a curated reading package developed by the Qatar Reads team to support expectant mothers throughout pregnancy and the early stages of their child’s life.Carefully selected by expert librarians, the kit includes books for both parents and newborns, designed to nurture emotional connection, encourage early learning, and instill a love of reading that begins even before birth.The programme is aimed at pregnant women in their third trimester visiting the WWRC in Qatar.The kits are offered in both Arabic and English, ensuring accessibility to broad segments of the community.Participants are invited to complete an initial survey, after which selected mothers receive the kit directly at their homes.The study will use pre- and post-programme surveys, alongside focus group discussions, to explore changes in early literacy awareness, reading practices, and perceived parent-child bonding among participating mothers.In parallel, the initiative incorporates a structured research study led in collaboration with the HBKU.The study aims to evaluate the impact of the Parents-to-Be kit on early literacy awareness, reading habits, and parent-child bonding.By engaging expectant mothers at the WWRC and following their journeys through surveys and focus groups, the research seeks to generate evidence-based insights that will inform the continued development and enhancement of the programme.“Through the Parents-to-Be Programme, we are extending the impact of reading to one of the most formative stages of life,” said Qatar Reads manager Fatema al-Malki.“This initiative reflects our belief that the foundations of literacy and emotional connection begin early, even before a child is born,” she said. “By equipping parents with thoughtfully curated resources, we aim to support meaningful bonding experiences and establish reading as a natural part of family life from the very beginning.”“This collaboration represents an important step in bridging research and community-based initiatives,” said HBKU assistant professor Dr Hira Amin. “By studying the impact of early literacy interventions at such a critical stage, we aim to contribute valuable insights that can shape future educational and developmental programmes in Qatar and beyond.”"True healthcare excellence is rooted in the patient’s voice,” said Nasser al-Naimi, chief of Patient Experience at the HMC and director of Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute.“This initiative will strengthen our antenatal pathway, further advancing our person-centred approach,” he said.“By engaging expectant mothers during pregnancy and supporting early parent–child bonding, the HMC and its partners are extending care into the emotional, educational, and developmental space in a way that feels both compassionate and meaningful,” al-Naimi added. “By caring for the whole person, we ensure that every family leaves our care stronger."“At the WWRC, we emphasise that the centre’s role in women’s and children’s health extends beyond the provision of medical treatment,” said WWRC chief executive and medical director Dr Zeena Bu Shurbak al-Mansoori. “It encompasses comprehensive care that supports women throughout the different stages of their lives, addressing their health, psychological, and social needs.”She also encouraged pregnant women to actively engage with the Qatar Reads initiative by benefiting from the curated collection of books provided to participating women.“These books have been carefully selected to promote reading and knowledge development among expectant mothers, who represent the mothers of the future,” Dr al-Mansouri said. 

His Excellency Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani Thursday attended the conclusion of the joint trilateral exercise in urban search and rescue, with the participation of specialised teams from Qatar, France and Syria.  The closing ceremony was attended by Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh, French ambassador Arnaud Pescheux and a number of senior officials and officer Representing Qatar in the exercise was the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya).  France was represented by the France 3 and France 2 search and rescue teams while Syrian participated through its Civil Defence Directorate.  The exercise included simulations of realistic urban search and rescue scenarios, enabling the participating teams to test their capabilities in dealing with complex situations, enhance operational coordination, and exchange expertise in carrying out international missions.  The exercise comes within the framework of strengthening international cooperation and developing the field capabilities of teams working in search and rescue, contributing to enhanced readiness and effective response to natural and humanitarian disasters.  It also reflects Qatar's commitment to consolidating its position as a regional centre for training and expertise exchange in search and rescue, and demonstrates Lekhwiya's dedication to developing an integrated system for rapid and effective emergency and disaster response, thereby strengthening the preparedness of search and rescue teams to address various challenges and humanitarian missions at both the regional and international levels. 

Qatar Chamber board member Dr Mohamed bin Jawhar al-Mohamed has emphasised the importance of strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Qatar and Ghana.  In a webinar organised in cooperation with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Thursday, al-Mohamed highlighted the significant opportunities available for partnerships between the private sectors of both countries. Simon Madjie, CEO of the GIPC; Mohammed Nurudeen Ismaila, the ambassador of Ghana to Qatar; and a number of Qatari and Ghanaian business owners and companies also attended the meeting.  Al-Mohamed also noted that Qatar-Ghana relations witnessed notable growth in recent years, supported by high-level visits, exchanges of business delegations, and several cooperation agreements covering various sectors. He pointed out that bilateral trade volume between the two countries reached QR73mn in 2025, reflecting vast opportunities for commercial and economic cooperation during the period ahead.  Al-Mohamed highlighted Qatar’s growing interest in Africa, particularly West Africa, noting that Ghana's political stability, favourable business environment, and strategic location make it an attractive destination for Qatari investments and a gateway to regional markets.  He also pointed to promising opportunities for cooperation in several sectors, including agriculture, food security, energy, manufacturing, tourism, technology, infrastructure, and financial services, emphasising that these sectors offer significant potential for establishing mutually beneficial partnerships that support sustainable economic growth in both countries.  Al-Mohamed reaffirmed Qatar Chamber’s commitment to supporting closer cooperation between Qatar and Ghana’s business communities, and encouraged Qatari investors to explore the investment opportunities available in Ghana.  He also invited Ghanaian companies to invest in Qatar, highlighting the country's world-class infrastructure, advanced regulatory framework, and business-friendly environment that supports innovation, investment, and sustainable growth. Ismaila praised the distinguished relations between the two countries, expressing his hope that this meeting would contribute to opening new horizons for cooperation and partnership between the business community in Qatar and Ghana in various sectors.  During the meeting, the Ghanaian side delivered a presentation highlighting the key features of the Ghanaian economy, as well as the main incentives and facilities available to foreign investors. It also outlined the most promising investment sectors, including energy, infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, mining, financial technology, hospitality and others.

His Excellency Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani conferred on Thursday with Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management of the Syrian Arab Republic Raed Al Saleh on the sidelines of the conclusion of the Joint Trilateral Exercise in Urban Search and Rescue.During the meeting, they discussed the close fraternal relations and existing partnership between the two brotherly countries, along with ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in the fields of emergency and disaster management, capacity building, and training, in a way that supports efforts to develop response and preparedness systems, enhances the utilization of the State of Qatar's advanced expertise in this field, serves the common interests of both countries, and meets the aspirations of their leaderships. 

Invest Qatar, Qatar's investment promotion Agency, in collaboration with QNB Group, the leading financial institution in the Middle East and Africa, hosted a high‑level investor dialogue in Beijing as part of "The Qatar‑China Synergy Series: Navigating Resilience in a Shifting Global Landscape". In a statement, Invest Qatar said: "The event underscored the strength of the economic partnership between Qatar and China, while reaffirming Qatar's position as a stable and competitive destination for foreign investment amid an evolving economic landscape".  Held in partnership with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Beijing and the ZGC‑GCC Innovation Partners Programme, discussions focused on navigating global economic shifts, strengthening industrial and financial cooperation, and identifying new pathways for long‑term partnership across priority sectors.  The dialogue also highlighted the growing importance of Gulf-Asia economic connectivity as businesses seek resilient growth markets, diversified investment destinations and trusted cross-border partners.  Presentations by Invest Qatar and QNB highlighted Qatar's competitive business environment, regulatory clarity and economic resilience, while case studies demonstrated practical pathways for Chinese companies to establish and scale operations in Qatar. QNB highlighted its leading position across the Middle East, Africa and Turkiye (MENAT), supported by an extensive international network and deep regional expertise.  The Group also underscored its growing presence in Asia, particularly in Greater China through its Hong Kong Branch and Shanghai Representative Office, strengthening its ability to facilitate cross-border connectivity between China and the MENAT region.  Chief of Investment Development at Invest Qatar Fahad Ali al-Kuwari said: "This dialogue reflects Qatar's unwavering commitment to deepening economic cooperation with China and to providing international investors with a stable, predictable and supportive environment. "Through close collaboration with trusted partners such as QNB, we continue to strengthen channels for investment, facilitate meaningful partnerships and position Qatar as a reliable long‑term destination for Chinese enterprises seeking global growth," he added. Chief Executive Officer of QNB Hong Kong and Greater China Jafar Amin stressed: "China remains a strategically important market for QNB and a key pillar of the Group's international growth strategy.  Through our growing presence in Greater China and our extensive international network, QNB continues to strengthen financial and investment connectivity between Asia and the MENAT region. "As Chinese corporates continue to expand internationally, QNB is well positioned to support their cross-border ambitions through integrated banking solutions, regional expertise and on-the-ground market access across key growth markets.  We remain committed to deepening our relationships in China and further expanding our role as a trusted partner supporting trade, investment, and long-term economic cooperation," he said. Qatar and China continue to foster a strong and expanding economic partnership, supported by strong collaboration across a broad range of sectors.  More than 520 Chinese companies currently operate in Qatar, reflecting sustained investor confidence in the country's business environment. According to Invest Qatar's FDI Projects Monitor, China has emerged as one of Qatar's leading sources of foreign direct investment, delivering 59 projects between 2017 and 2026, representing more than $3bn in capital expenditure and creating over 3,200 jobs.

The State of Qatar strongly condemns the renewed Iranian attacks against the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the State of Kuwait, considering them a blatant violation of the sovereignty of these countries and a flagrant breach of international law.In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to spare the region the repercussions of these unjustified attacks and to work towards de-escalation in order to restore regional and international security and stability.The Ministry reiterates the State of Qatar's full solidarity with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Bahrain and its support for all measures they take to preserve their sovereignty and security.
