The second edition of the Doha Arbitration Day 2025 Conference was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Doha, under the patronage of the Ministry of Justice and the Qatar International Court.The event was held in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Ibrahim bin Ali al-Mohannadi.The conference was hosted by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and organised in partnership with the Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA), the Qatar Lawyers Association, and the Qatari Experts and Arbitrators Association.The conference witnessed broad participation from representatives of judicial, governmental, academic, and legal institutions, in addition to a distinguished group of specialists and practitioners in the fields of arbitration and dispute resolution.The conference opened with remarks by Saad Hegazy, CIArb Trustee and Head of the Organising Committee, followed by contributions from Sheikh Dr Thani al-Thani, Vice-Chair of QICCA; Mohammed Lahdan al-Muhannadi, Chair of the Qatari Experts and Arbitrators Association; and Mubarak al-Sulaiti, Chair of the Qatar Lawyers Association.The speakers highlighted the importance of capacity building, fostering shared expertise, and supporting the development of an effective and resilient arbitration ecosystem in the State of Qatar.A keynote address was delivered by Prof Dr Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Global President-Elect of CIArb for 2025, offering insights into global trends in international arbitration and their relevance to the evolving legal and commercial landscape.QICDRC CEO Faisal Rashid al-Sahouti emphasised the significance of the conference and its role in strengthening the culture of arbitration within the State of Qatar.He noted that the Second Edition of Doha Arbitration Day reflects the collective efforts of the Ministry of Justice, QICDRC, and all partner institutions in developing a modern and advanced arbitration ecosystem that enhances confidence in the business and investment environment, and reinforces Qatar’s position as a leading regional and international hub for dispute resolution.The conference concluded with a formal honouring ceremony and the graduation of the first cohort of Ministry of Justice employees joining CIArb membership — marking an important milestone in advancing national expertise and strengthening Qatar’s capabilities in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.The conference also followed the recent election of the new members of the CIArb Qatar Branch Committee, chaired by Dr Saad bin Ahmed al-Muhannadi. 

Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohammed bin Towar al-Kuwari held a meeting Monday with Ville Skinnari, a member of the Finnish Parliament and chairman of the Qatar Finland Friendship Group, who participated in the recently concluded Doha Forum 2025.During the meeting, which was also attended by Commercial Counsellor Kimmo Laaksonen, both sides discussed trade and economic co-operation and reviewed prospects for encouraging mutual investments and the pivotal role of the private sector in boosting trade exchange.Al-Kuwari said Qatar-Finland trade stood at QR354mn last year, emphasising the mutual desire to increase this to higher levels. Highlighting Qatar’s interest in exploring investment opportunities in Finland, al-Kuwari affirmed the chamber’s support in strengthening cooperation ties and readiness to assist Finnish investors seeking to benefit from Qatar’s attractive investment climate, available opportunities, and the numerous incentives offered to investors. 

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has invited the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) to explore investment opportunities across various economic sectors in Damascus.The invitation came after al-Sharaa received a delegation of QBA officials and members in Doha on the sidelines of his participation in the recently concluded Doha Forum 2025.The delegation included QBA chairman His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani; board members Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal al-Thani and Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al-Thani; members Sheikh Mansour bin Jassim al-Thani, Mohammed Moataz al-Khayaat, Hamad bin Mohammed al-Mana, Khaled al-Mannai, Faisal al-Mana, Abdulrahman al-Mana, and Ihsan al-Khiyami, as well as QBA general manager Sarah Abdallah.Also in attendance was Asaad al-Shibani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic.The discussions focused on bilateral co-operation between Syria and Qatar in the commercial and economic fields, and on the role of the private sector in strengthening and expanding ties, especially in light of Syria’s extensive reconstruction phase.Al-Sharaa affirmed Syria's strong ties with Qatar, reflecting the depth of the historical relationship between both countries, “a relationship that can be translated into tangible investment partnerships.”He said Syria is currently reforming its investment laws and providing incentives for foreign investors, noting that the country is now open to major international companies, many of which started investing in energy, gas, and electricity sectors. The president further highlighted that Qatari companies are already active in these fields and also hold investments at Damascus International Airport.Al-Sharaa encouraged Qatari businessmen to invest in Syria and enter into projects and ventures across various economic sectors, calling for the establishment of strategic partnerships between Qatari and Syrian companies.Sheikh Faisal emphasised QBA’s appreciation for the visit and the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral co-operation, saying the strong historical and social ties between Qatar and Syria provide a solid foundation for expanding economic partnerships.He said Syria is currently undergoing a phase that offers distinctive investment opportunities in several sectors, and expressed QBA’s eagerness to transform these opportunities into practical projects and sustainable partnerships that serve the interests of both countries.Sheikh Hamad said the “positive relations” between Doha and Damascus will encourage Qatari businessmen to invest in Syria, affirming that the current period is highly suitable for investments in industry, infrastructure, and other productive sectors.Sheikh Nawaf noted that QBA will organise a visit to Damascus to review potential investment opportunities and discuss ways to enhance co-operation with relevant authorities and Syrian businessmen. He also highlighted the importance of developing investment laws to further motivate investors to enter the Syrian market. 

It was curtains for two-time Asian champions Qatar at the FIFA Arab Cup 2025 on Sunday after coach Julen Lopetegui's young side lost 3-0 against Syria at Al Bayt Stadium.Qatar, who desperately needed a win to stay in contention of qualifying for the quarter-finals stage but powerful Tunisia - the runners-up at the last edition of Arab Cup in 2021 - brought their A-game to stun Al Annabi at the 16-team tournament. An early goal in the 16th minute by quick-thinking Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane gave Tunisia the start they wanted in the key clash. Yassine Meriah doubled the lead in the 62nd minute. Ben Ali fired one into the Qatar net after a solo run in injury time (90 +4) to complete a dominating win by Tunisia coached by Sami Trabelsi. Lopetegui, missing his key players for the tournament, saw his team lose to Palestine following an own goal last week. That shock 1-0 defeat was followed by a 1-1 draw against Syria three days ago. Akram Afif's direct freekick in the 89th minute on Sunday sailed past the Tunisian goalpost to sum up the dismal performance of the home side.In the day's other match on Sunday at the Education City Stadium, Palestine and Syria produced a goalless draw that allowed them to reach the quarter-finals of the hugely popular tournament. Fan favourite Palestine and Syria finished the group stage with 5 points each. Tunisia ended with 4 points while Qatar could garner only 1 from three matches. Chances were at a premium in a keenly-fought opening half between two sides on four points from their respective opening two matches. Palestine’s Hamed Hamdan flashed a shot well wide from distance before Tamer Seyam’s volley forced a good save out of Syria custodian Elias Hadaya. Syria’s big chance came right at the end of the first half after Elmar Abraham’s dribble caused confusion in the Palestine defence but Omar Khribin dragged his effort wide of the target. There was a moment of concern for Palestine in the 61st minute after the referee pointed to the spot when Wajdi Mohammed made contact with Mohammad Alsalkhadi but the decision was reversed after a VAR review. Both sought a winner but none was forthcoming as the 39,571 fans at Education City Stadium witnessed a share of the spoils. At Al Bayt Stadium, Tunisia tested the waters as early as the second minute when Ben Romdhane set up Marouane Sahraoui, who lobbed his effort over the bar before the Central African side’s relentless passing left Qatar stunned in the 16th minute. Ben Romdhane sparked the move on the left, feeding Ali Maaloul to cut the ball back to Seifeddine Jaziri, who had his effort blocked by Meshaal Barsham, only for Ben Romdhane to pounce on the rebound and place his his shot well beyond the sprawling Qatar keeper. Despite the home crowd advantage, Qatar barely troubled Tunisia, with Sultan Al Brake’s attempt from the edge of the box in the 27th minute comfortably collected by Tunisian goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen. Tunisia continued to dictate proceedings with another attacking sequence carving open the Qatari defence at the half-hour mark, with Ben Romdhane once again at the heart of the move in setting up Firas Chaouat, who pulled his shot narrowly wide. Tunisia went in search of their second with Ben Romdhane and Seifeddine Jaziri both seeing their efforts blocked from inside the box, while Dahmen stayed firm at the other end to keep out Qatar’s advances. The two-time AFC Asian Cup champions fell further behind in the 62nd minute with Meriah turning in Ferjani Sassi’s flick off a corner with a close-range header. Tunisia were reduced to 10 men following Jaziri’s dismissal for a foul on Afif three minutes later but still scored a third through Ben Ali in stoppage time to leave Qatar frustrated.

Her Excellency the Minister of State for International Co-operation Dr Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad met Saturday with Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan for Foreign Affairs Hikmet Hajiyev, on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2025. The meeting dealt with bilateral co-operation and the means to enhance it, in addition to several issues of joint interest.  

The Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) remains "a bright spot in the world economy" in the current challenging global economic scenario, noted Bo Li, deputy managing director, International Monetary Fund, while launching the IMF's 2025 GCC report 'Enhancing Resilience to Global Shocks: Economic Prospects and Policy Challenges for the GCC Countries' at Doha Forum 2025.According to Li, the global economic context remains challenging and despite the challenging external environment, the GCC economies have been resilient and the GCC growth is expected to accelerate from 3.3% in 2025 to 4.4% in 2026.“The world economy is adjusting to a landscape that is being shaped by major structural transformations, ranging from geopolitics and trade relations to new technologies and demographic shifts. In this environment, global growth remains subdued and risks to the outlook are tilted to the downside," said Li.Li noted that the outlook shows some differences across regions. He explained: “While economic growth is set to slow in some parts of the world, the GCC remains a bright spot in the world economy. In an environment characterised by heightened global uncertainty, trade tensions and a decline in oil prices and a conflict in the region, the GCC economies have demonstrated remarkable resilience.”He noted that the resilience results from a combination of favourable external conditions and good policies. “It is fair to say that the resilience of the GCC over the past year has largely been the result of good policies, prudent macroeconomic policies and strong structural reform momentum,” he highlightedThe official said the GCC economic growth will be bolstered by the continued strength of non-hydrocarbon economy amid diversification efforts.“In this uncertain environment, the overarching policy objective is to enhance resilience and accelerate economic diversification irrespective of oil prices,” he continued.Li stated that the continued challenge for fiscal policy is to balance the objectives of intergenerational equity, economic diversification, and counter-cyclical stabilisation.“Amid high global uncertainty, financial sector policies should continue to proactively manage systemic risks. Accelerating and prioritising reforms will support the transition to a new growth model. In this regard, diversification efforts would benefit from the deepening of domestic financial markets and the fostering of new and more diverse international economic relationships,” he stressed.“In this regard, I am very happy to see the theme of this year's Doha Forum, ‘Justice in Action’ which is very appropriate. We look forward to deepening further our excellent partnership on capacity development with the GCC countries,” he added. 

His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Sayed held talks in Doha on Sunday with Mehmet Simsek, Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Turkiye, on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2025, as the two countries explored ways to deepen their economic partnership.The discussions focused on expanding bilateral co-operation in trade and investment, with both sides reviewing key areas of mutual interest and identifying opportunities to broaden commercial links.Officials also exchanged views on issues featured on this year's forum agenda, which spotlights global economic stability, sustainable growth and geopolitical challenges.Relations between Qatar and Turkiye have grown steadily in recent years, particularly in finance, defence and trade. Sunday's meeting was described as part of a continued effort to strengthen the strategic economic ties that underpin the partnership between the two nations. 

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, received Saturday Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, on the occasion of his visit to the country to participate in the Doha Forum 2025, currently underway at the Sheraton Doha Hotel. During the meeting, they reviewed prospects for developing cooperation and discussed a host of topics of mutual interest, particularly those on the forum's agenda.

A session of the Doha Forum 2025 held Saturday discussed defence policy, security, mediation in conflicts, and peacebuilding, under the title of "Iran and the Changing Regional Security Environment”.The session featured Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed al-Budaiwi, former Iranian foreign affairs minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the director of Italy’s Institute of International Affairs Nathalie Tocci.The session was moderated by the executive vice-president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft in Washington, Dr Trita Parsi.The GCC secretary-general affirmed the council’s keenness on Iran’s stability and prosperity, stressing that no one in the GCC wished to see Iran collapse.Al-Budaiwi noted that the Gulf states had, over the past 7-8 decades, transformed into the world’s ninth-largest economy, with a collective GDP of about $2.4tn in 2024, and expressed the GCC’s desire to share these development experiences with Iran.He emphasised the need to respect the principles of good neighbourliness, adhere to the UN Charter, engage in dialogue, and refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of other states.Al-Budaiwi added that the GCC’s expectations from Iran were simple and fundamental, similar to any normal relationship between neighbours.He highlighted that Iran embodies a rich civilisational, cultural, and artistic heritage, and stressed that the Gulf states have much to offer Iran, underlining the importance of focusing on a shared future.Zarif affirmed that Iran is capable of overcoming crises despite the challenges it had faced throughout history.He said that Iran had always been willing to engage in dialogue, referencing his 2017 proposal for a Regional Dialogue Forum (RDF) based on the UN Charter, good neighbourliness, non-interference, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.The former minister stressed the need to institutionalise the ongoing discussions between Iran and the GCC states and to build a shared vision for the future.Tocci warned of the growing risks facing the Gulf and Middle East regions, stating that the current situation requires practical steps to strengthen stability and build confidence among states.She stressed that external interventions had contributed to complicating the regional landscape, but were not the root cause of the problem, adding that the future lies in the hands of the regional states themselves rather than external powers.She underlined the need for commitment to dialogue, co-operation, and confidence-building through concrete actions. 

His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal al-Thani met on Saturday with President of the World Economic Forum Borge Brende, on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2025, reports QNA. The meeting discussed ways to enhance co-operation and partnership between the State of Qatar and the World Economic Forum, in addition to exchanging views on items on the forum's agenda. The two sides also reviewed Qatar's efforts in developing the business environment and strengthening the private sector's role, in addition to the economic policies that support trade, industry, and investment, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and its development objectives.
