The College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has completed an intensive training programme for senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). The three-day training, delivered by CPP Prof Dr Sultan Barakat, was attended by around 25 participants holding high-ranking positions at MoFA, Ministry of Defence, and the armed forces. Dr Abdelaziz al-Hour, director of the Diplomatic Institute, stated: “The choice of subject reflects the strategic importance Qatar places on mediation, and we were delighted to have Dr Barakat share his extensive and global experience with our colleagues.” The curriculum explored the complexities of mediation strategies and concepts, analysed real-world case studies, and discussed tools for measuring the effectiveness of mediation, highlighting the importance of regional and international co-operation in peacebuilding. Additionally, participants were informed on how Qatar’s soft power influences policymaking during times of crisis, the impact of the state’s mediation on peace processes in various regions, as well as Doha’s ability to navigate complex geopolitical situations while maintaining neutrality.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomed Thuursday the agreement reached on Gaza and the commencement of implementation of the first phase of US President Donald Trump's proposal aimed at halting the war on the Gaza Strip and paving the way for a comprehensive and just peace. A statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the active role of the US President and the mediation efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Republic of Turkiye to reach this agreement. The Saudi Foreign Ministry voiced its hope that this important step would lead to urgent action to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the fraternal Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, achieve a complete Israeli withdrawal, restore security and stability, and initiate practical steps to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, and establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and the New York Statement on a peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution. This agreement is part of the State of Qatar's efforts to strengthen its international relations and facilitate travel procedures for its citizens, contributing to supporting bilateral cooperation and cultural, tourism, and economic exchange between the two countries.
