Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education has announced the winners of the Qatar Scientific Excellence Award 2026, with 108 candidates selected from a total of 371 applicants.The results were approved by the award's Board of Trustees, chaired by Her Excellency Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Maryam Abdullah al-Muhannadi, the award's chief executive, said the number of winners reflected strong competition and the high quality of submissions, as well as growing awareness of the award's criteria and standards.She said the results showed a notable diversity in the educational institutions represented by the winners, including students from public, private and specialised schools, as well as civilian and military universities and colleges. This, she added, highlighted the spread of a culture of excellence across Qatar's education sector.Al-Muhannadi noted that the overall success rate was in line with the average of the past five editions, underlining the consistency of the evaluation methodology. She also pointed to the role of supportive family environments, saying that in some cases more than one member of the same family had won, in accordance with the award's criteria.She stressed that only candidates who achieved the required scores were selected, following a comprehensive assessment process that included file reviews and interviews, ensuring fairness, transparency and equal opportunities.Congratulating the winners, al-Muhannadi said this year's edition had attracted strong interest and high-quality participation, reinforcing the award's status as a national platform that promotes excellence, quality and innovation. She also praised candidates who were not selected, saying that applying for the award itself demonstrated ambition and a commitment to excellence.The main award ceremony will be held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, on Feb 15, 2026, marking 20 years since the launch of the award. The award aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its human development pillar, by investing in national talent and fostering an educational environment that supports creativity, innovation and sustainable development.

The “HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award” (ACE Award) earns global significance as a first-of-its-kind initiative in this field. It aims to honour individuals and institutions that dedicate their efforts to combating corruption and promoting transparency and integrity on the global stage. The award is backed by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for the UN’s message in fighting corruption and organised crime, in addition to enhancing the realisation of Goal 16 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in terms of promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. The global initiative also strives to shore up good governance and transparency and aid in the fight to uproot the scourge of corruption, which poses a profound threat to nations’ future, progress, and their peoples’ welfare. The award broadly stems from Qatar’s belief in the values of transparency, integrity, and accountability: it reflects an annual appreciation from His Highness the Amir for the pioneers in combating corruption and crime at the international level. The award is not restricted to those who combat corruption but also honours individuals globally and motivates governments, academic institutions, media, and civil society to pursue the tenets of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, in addition to understanding these tenets and collaborating to implement them. The award highlights the best global practices in combating corruption and recognises leading models from around the world while working to strengthen, collect, and disseminate them.It also aims to raise public awareness, enhance support and solidarity, and encourage global initiatives aimed at building corruption-free societies. Thanks to this global role, the award has witnessed a significant uptick in participation from one edition to another by states, governmental and civil bodies, and relevant institutions worldwide. The award is presented in collaboration with the UN and encompasses five categories: the Lifetime Achievement or Outstanding Contribution in Combating Corruption, the Academic Research and Educational Materials in Combating Corruption, the Youth Creativity and Engagement in Combating Corruption, the Innovation or Investigative Journalism in Combating Corruption, and the Protection of Sports from Corruption. The Lifetime Achievement or Outstanding Contribution category focuses on honouring individuals who have devoted their professional lives to combating corruption or have made significant contributions domestically and internationally in this field. The Academic Research and Educational Materials category targets individuals and entities with research, studies, publications, and works related to understanding the causes of corruption, prevention methods, and promoting knowledge and academic awareness regarding transparency and integrity practices. In the Youth Creativity and Engagement category, the award emphasises the importance of involving younger generations, including university students and new employees, in global efforts to combat corruption. In the Innovation or Investigative Journalism category, the award honours innovators who have developed effective tools contributing to the fight against corruption, with a focus on celebrating those who highlight forms of corruption and their negative impact on communities worldwide. In the Protection of Sports from Corruption category, the award aims to honour individuals and entities that have made effective contributions in safeguarding the sports sector from corrupt practices at both local and regional levels, and who have had a tangible impact in reducing corruption risks in sports. The award was launched in 2016, with its first ceremony held in Vienna. The second iteration took place at the UN headquarters in Geneva in 2017, the third in Malaysia in 2018, the fourth in Rwanda in 2019, the fifth in Tunisia in 2020, the sixth in Qatar in 2022, the seventh in Uzbekistan in 2023, and the eighth in Costa Rica in 2024. The total number of awardees so far is 58. In 2016, seven winners received the award; in 2017, it was six; in 2018, eight; in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2024, the award went to seven winners each year; and in 2023, nine were honoured.

On behalf of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, His Excellency Vice Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums Sheikh Thani bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani presented the awards to the winners of the 11th Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding. The ceremony was attended by a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs, ministers, senior officials, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State of Qatar.The 11th edition of the award witnessed wide international participation from 32 countries, with five languages included in this year’s competition categories. In the German-Arabic translation category, three translators were honored. Mohammad Ahmad Abu Zaid won second place, sharing the award with Omar Al Ghoul, while Haroun Ahmad Sulaiman Ahmad won third place. The first-place prize in this category was not awarded.In the Arabic-German translation category, Larissa Bander won first place. In the Turkish-Arabic translation category, Abdul-Razzaq Barakat won third place, while the first- and second-place prizes in this category were not awarded. In the Arabic-Turkish translation category, Davut Elitas and Mehmet Yusha Ozmen shared first place, while Elif Baga and Cahit Senel shared second place. Mustafa Ismail Donmez won third place.The ceremony also honored winners of the Achievement Awards for institutions and individuals. In the English language category, the award went to Namaa Foundation. In the Turkish language category, the awards were shared by Baqa Publishing, Vahdettin İnca, and Ankara Okulu Publishing. In the German language category, the award was presented to the Institute of Oriental Studies at the University of Leipzig.In the Thai language category, the achievement awards went to Amnawai Efendi Boker Ajin, the Association of Graduates of Arab Universities in Thailand, and Arun Jalaluddin. In the Albanian language category, the achievers included Muhammad Muwafaq Al Arnaout, Dar Logos-A Publishing, Viti Mehdiu, the Department of Oriental Studies at the University of Pristina, and Sulejman Tomçini.At the beginning of the ceremony, an introductory film was screened highlighting the key milestones of the current edition of the award, as well as its activities and accompanying events, including field tours conducted in several countries.

The Qatar Press Centre (QPC) and the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding have signed a co-operation agreement to launch strategic partnerships in organising academic and knowledge-based events.Part of the agreement covers the hosting specialised seminars and workshops in the fields of translation and international understanding.It aims to draw on the expertise of both parties in preparing training programmes, and cultural and media publications that enhance the value of translation in developing journalistic and media content.The agreement, signed at the Abdulla bin Hussein Al-Nuaimi Hall, seeks to make the QPC a key platform for hosting the Award’s activities, which promote dialogue between cultures and open avenues for co-operation with related institutions.The agreement was signed by QPC director-general Sadiq Mohammed al-Amari and the Award’s media director Abdulrahman al-Marri.Al-Marri lauded the QPC’s leading role in developing journalistic talent and enhancing professional media work in the country, adding that the QPC has become a model of institutional and media excellence at both the local and regional levels.“Co-operation between national institutions is a national duty aimed at unifying efforts and achieving institutional integration across different sectors in a way that serves the public interest and strengthens the role of media and culture in Qatar,” he said.He emphasised the need to create a shared vision between the Award and the QPC that helps utilise translation to serve the media and journalism fields.Al-Marri noted that translation is not merely the transfer of language, but a bridge of communication between cultures and nations.He explained that benefiting from translators’ expertise contributes to improving journalistic content and enhancing the quality of media outputs, especially amid rapid developments in artificial intelligence and the challenges it poses to the accuracy and integrity of translation.Al-Amari meanwhile noted that the Award represents a national and humanistic value in spreading a culture of understanding and dialogue between different peoples.He lauded the Award’s vision and objectives in improving the image of Arabs and Muslims in other cultures, noting that this noble purpose aligns with the QPC’s mission of promoting responsible media and conveying a positive portrayal of Qatari and Arab society.“This agreement opens a new chapter of cultural and media cooperation that supports the principles of openness and dialogue, strengthens Qatar’s stature as a beacon of understanding and communication between nations, and reinforces the country’s pioneering role in supporting culture and knowledge as two essential pillars of human development,” al-Amari said.He said the translation and media are complementary wings of one mission: disseminating knowledge and building bridges between nations.Established in Qatar in 2015, the Sheikh Hamad Award is one of the world’s most prominent prizes dedicated to translation as a bridge between cultures and a tool for strengthening human dialogue.It aims to honour creative translators who contribute to transferring knowledge, literature and human thought between different languages and cultures, and to reinforce the values of mutual understanding and respect among peoples.
