Guided by the steadfast leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar has demonstrated remarkable unity, discipline, and preparedness in the face of repeated Iranian aggression. Chairing the Cabinet’s regular session at the Amiri Diwan Wednesday, His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani led ministers in affirming the country’s collective strength under HH the Amir’s direction.  The Cabinet praised the Qatar Armed Forces for their decisive and professional action in countering successive Iranian attacks targeting several regions across the country. The ministers commended the forces’ exceptional readiness, coordination with security and civil authorities, and their unwavering commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.  The Cabinet lauded the Ministry of Interior and all relevant agencies for their round-the-clock efforts to maintain public safety, ensure service continuity, and monitor the evolving security situation.  Reiterating Qatar’s categorical condemnation of the Iranian assault, the Cabinet described the attack as a flagrant violation of sovereignty and a direct act of aggression inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness.  It reaffirmed Qatar’s right to respond under international law and defend its national interests, while maintaining its principled stance in favor of dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution. The ministers also extended Qatar’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan — nations that were likewise targeted — affirming support for any measures they take to safeguard their stability.  The Cabinet expressed deep appreciation to friendly and allied nations for their firm solidarity and strong condemnation of the attacks, acknowledging their genuine concern for Qatar’s security and sovereignty.  Briefing the session, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan al-Thani reported on the success of ongoing operations. He confirmed that the country’s air defence systems, fighter aircraft, and early warning mechanisms are functioning at peak capacity, underlining the armed forces’ complete capability to repel external threats and protect Qatar’s skies and terrain.  His Excellency Minister of Interior, Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), and Chairman of the Civil Defense Council Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani assured the Cabinet that the internal security situation remains stable and fully under control. He highlighted the tight coordination between security bodies and civil agencies to protect citizens, residents, and visitors, emphasising the continuity of essential services and swift on-ground engagement by response teams.  In follow-up briefings, several ministers presented updates on vital sectors including food security, energy, health, education, transportation, environment, and cybersecurity. The Cabinet expressed confidence in the nation’s readiness across these fronts, noting the robustness of the strategic reserves of food, medicine, and basic commodities, and the smooth flow of supply chains to meet domestic needs.  Echoing HH the Amir’s directives, the Cabinet reaffirmed that all state institutions are working in total alignment — defence and home affairs, civil and economic sectors alike — anchored by unwavering resolve to protect Qatar’s sovereignty, security, and the wellbeing of its people.

Amid ongoing investigations by Qatar's State Security officials, the suspects confessed to their links with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and stated that they had been assigned to conduct espionage and subversion missions, alongside three others who were tasked with carrying out sabotage activities and trained in the use of drones.Authorities also found in their possession the locations and coordinates of sensitive facilities and installations, along with communication devices and technological equipment. 

As part of ongoing efforts to protect the country's security and stability, the competent authorities have successfully arrested two cells operating for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Qatar. The precision monitoring and tracking operations resulted in the capture of ten suspects, seven of whom were tasked with espionage missions to gather intelligence on the nation's vital and military infrastructure, alongside three others assigned to conduct sabotage activities and trained in the use of drones. Authorities also found in their possession locations and coordinates of sensitive facilities and installations, along with communication devices and technological equipment.During the investigations, the suspects confessed their links to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and stated that they had been assigned to conduct espionage and subversion missions. As such, the State Security urges citizens and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected activities to the authoritative agencies.

Qatar has declared that Iranian attacks on its territory have crossed clear red lines and will not go unanswered, as its Foreign Ministry revealed the full scale of an assault that saw more than 140 missiles, drones, and fighter jets launched against the country since Saturday — the vast majority of which were intercepted and destroyed by Qatari armed forces.Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari, speaking at the ministry's weekly media briefing Tuesday, delivered a comprehensive and at times pointed account of events, flatly rejecting Iranian claims that Doha had been forewarned of the attacks. "Completely untrue," he said, stressing that Qatar was taken entirely by surprise by what he described as wholly unjustified aggression.The scale of the attackSince the Iranian assault began on Saturday, Qatari territory has been targeted by three cruise missiles — all intercepted — 101 ballistic missiles, 98 of which were shot down, and 39 drones, 24 of which were brought down. Two Iranian SU-24 fighter jets that violated Qatari airspace were also destroyed in accordance with rules of engagement, after the necessary warnings were issued.A search is under way for the crews of both aircraft. In total, Qatar's air defences have neutralised the overwhelming majority of every category of weapon deployed against it.Al-Ansari was emphatic that the targeting was not confined to military installations or American interests, but extended deliberately to Qatari lands and vital civilian infrastructure, including sites in Mesaieed and Ras Laffan.Attempts to strike Hamad International Airport were also made, though every missile and drone aimed at the airport was intercepted before reaching its grounds. The airport, he confirmed, is completely safe and fully operational.He stressed that a tank struck in Mesaieed belongs to a factory and has no connection to the drinking water supply, adding that Qatar's strategic reserves of water and electricity remain secure and plentiful, with no threat on either front.‘Missile stockpile not depleted’Al-Ansari praised the performance of Qatar's armed forces in unequivocal terms, saying they dealt with every threat with high efficiency and without any real losses. He rejected outright the media reports — including a Bloomberg article — suggesting that Qatar's Patriot interceptor missile stockpile had been depleted, calling such claims entirely without foundation. "The missile stockpile has never been depleted," he said, confirming that Qatar maintains full readiness with reserves sufficient to address any further threat. The country is reviewing legal options to have such misinformation corrected.Recalling that Iran had also attacked Qatar's Al Udeid Air Base in 2025, al-Ansari said Qatar had at that time chosen to prioritise regional stability over retaliation, even though it had every right to respond. That restraint, he made clear, should not be mistaken for weakness. Qatar reserves the right to respond to the current attacks, all options remain on the table, and the Qatari leadership is actively weighing how to proceed whilst simultaneously calling for an immediate halt to the escalation.Diplomacy under fireOn the diplomatic front, Qatar has moved swiftly and on multiple tracks. The Iranian ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry last Saturday, where Qatar expressed its strong protest and outright rejection of the attacks, describing them as a brazen violation of sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law and the UN Charter.Minister of State Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi warned the ambassador directly that a repetition of such conduct would carry dangerous consequences for the bilateral relationship.Al-Ansari also dismissed Iranian foreign minister claims of prior notification as a fabrication, clarifying that an earlier contact — made during last year's attack — amounted to nothing more than a vague reference to a reaction directed generally against Gulf states, with no specification of time, place, or targets.Global support for QatarQatar has since received more than 88 expressions of solidarity from world leaders. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani received 34 calls from heads of state, whilst His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani received 27 calls from heads of government and foreign ministers. Senior ministers received a further 18 calls from their counterparts.The prime minister also participated virtually in the 50th extraordinary meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council Sunday, at which Gulf foreign ministers condemned Iran's attacks in the strongest terms, affirmed their collective solidarity, and reserved the right to respond in line with the UN Charter.Qatar additionally joined Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, the UAE, and the United States in a joint statement condemning Iran's missile and drone campaign as a menacing escalation that violates the sovereignty of multiple states.On Monday, Qatar dispatched identical formal messages to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and US Permanent Representative to the UN Michael Waltz — current president of the Security Council — calling for urgent international attention to what Doha described as an unacceptable assault imperilling regional security and stability.Life goes onDespite the gravity of the situation, al-Ansari was keen to stress that daily life across Qatar continues normally, underpinned by transparent governance and emergency plans that have proved effective at both the military and civilian levels. More than 8,000 transit passengers stranded at Hamad International Airport have been accommodated in hotels at the state's expense, with visas, residencies, and official documents extended for an initial period of one month, or until the crisis concludes. Passengers stranded on cruise ships have similarly been provided for.Qatar's attention, al-Ansari concluded, is now squarely focused on defending its territory. A nation that consistently chooses peace, dialogue, and de-escalation as the cornerstones of its foreign policy, Qatar will nonetheless never hesitate to defend its sovereignty — and those who have tested that resolve, he made plain, will not find it lacking. 

The Ministry of Defence has disclosed the full scale of its military response since the start of Iranian aggression, confirming that its air defence systems have successfully intercepted the vast majority of aerial and missile attacks launched against the country.In a comprehensive tally, the military confirmed the interception of two SU-24 fighter jets, three cruise missiles, 98 out of 101 ballistic missiles, and 24 out of 39 drones. Among the intercepted threats were two ballistic missiles that targeted several areas within Qatar, both of which were neutralised before reaching Qatari territory. The ministry stressed that the threat was identified and engaged immediately upon detection, in line with pre-approved operational plans."Qatar Armed Forces possess full capabilities and resources to safeguard and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and to respond firmly to any external threat," the ministry said.Separately, Qatar's International Media Office moved to rebuff a Bloomberg report suggesting that the Qatar Armed Forces' inventory of Patriot interceptor missiles had been depleted, calling the claim flatly false.In a pointed statement, the Office said the Patriot stockpile "has not been depleted and remains well-stocked," adding that the Armed Forces "remain at full readiness to protect all citizens, residents, and visitors for as long as necessary." The Office called the publication of such claims without official verification "deeply irresponsible, especially during this fast-moving and highly sensitive period," and said it was reviewing legal options to have the misinformation corrected.On the domestic security front, the Ministry of Interior has been issuing a steady stream of directives urging the public to remain indoors and leave their homes only when absolutely necessary, keeping away from windows and exposed areas. Residents are being told to follow instructions exclusively from official sources and to avoid spreading unverified information.Security agencies, the Ministry of Interior confirmed, are conducting continuous field operations through an integrated command system in close coordination with all relevant authorities, maintaining the highest levels of readiness as the situation continues to evolve. 

A US submarine sank an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka Wednesday, killing at least 87 sailors and leaving dozens missing, officials said.The sinking came as the war sparked by a joint US-Israel attack on Iran continued to spread across the Middle East."An American submarine sunk an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters. Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo," US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters in Washington.He called the attack "quiet death" and the first US sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War II."Like in that war," Hegseth said, "we are fighting to win."The Sri Lankan navy recovered the bodies of 87 sailors from waters near the southern city of Galle, but 61 remained missing, police and defence officials said."A search is still on for the others," a navy official told AFP on condition of anonymity.Earlier, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said Sri Lankan forces had rescued 32 sailors, many wounded, from the stricken Iranian frigate IRIS Dena.The rescued sailors are being treated in Galle, where an AFP photographer saw the first batch of over two dozen bodies being transported into a hospital Wednesday evening.The vessel issued a distress call at dawn but had completely sunk by the time a rescue ship reached the area within an hour, leaving only an oil patch on the surface, said Sri Lankan navy spokesman Buddhika Sampath.The warship was travelling after reportedly attending a military exercise in India's eastern port of Visakhapatnam.The attack was just 40 kilometres (25 miles) south of Galle, the local navy said.Iran has not yet commented on the sinking. Tehran's ambassador in Colombo, Alireza Delkhosh, was not immediately available for comment.Sampath said Sri Lanka's response to the distress call was in line with its maritime obligations."This is within our search and rescue area in the Indian Ocean," Sampath told AFP.Sri Lanka has remained neutral and has repeatedly urged dialogue to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.Just over a mn Sri Lankans are employed in the region, and they are a key source of foreign exchange for the country emerging from its worst-ever economic meltdown in 2022.Both Sri Lanka's navy and the air force said they were not releasing footage of the rescue because it involved the military of another state.Police stepped up security outside the Galle hospital as the wounded Iranians were brought there. 

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani has rejected Iranian claims that recent missile attacks were not aimed at Qatar, saying the evidence on the ground showed otherwise.This came during a phone call HE Sheikh Mohammed received yesterday from Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi.Araghchi said the missile strikes were directed at American interests and were not intended to target the Gulf state. Yet, the prime minister a"categorically rejected" that assertion, citing the civilian and residential areas inside the country struck by the attacks. He said the areas affected included the vicinity of Hamad International Airport as well as vital infrastructure and industrial zones, including facilities linked to liquefied natural gas production.The PM described the strikes as a "flagrant violation" of Qatar's sovereignty and of international law. He added the attacks were not limited to missiles, but were ongoing through drones as well as aircraft that had entered Qatari airspace and were intercepted by the country's armed forces.He added that these Iranian actions reflected "an escalatory approach" and did not indicate any genuine desire for de-escalation or resolution, accusing Tehran of seeking to harm its neighbours and draw them into a war "that is not theirs".The premier called for an immediate halt to attacks on regional states that have sought to remain outside the conflict, urging all sides to prioritise the broader interests of their peoples.He stressed that Qatar has consistently favoured dialogue and diplomacy, but would respond to any violation of its sovereignty, security or territorial integrity.The PM emphasised that such attacks could not go unanswered, citing the country's inherent right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. 

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani received a phone call on Tuesday from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. In the call, the Indonesian president expressed his country's full solidarity and support for the State of Qatar and its people in the face of the blatant Iranian aggression. He condemned any targeting of national territory and sovereignty in the region and emphasized the urgency of de-escalation and a return to negotiations. Meanwhile, HH the Amir expressed his deep appreciation for Indonesia's stance and support, noting that it reflects the strong bilateral relations and mutual understanding between the two countries. Both leaders also discussed current regional developments, underlining the importance of dialogue and diplomatic efforts as the way to contain the crisis and preserve regional security and stability.

The Ministry of Defense announced Monday that its armed forces had shot down two Iranian Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jets and intercepted a sweeping wave of missiles and drones targeting the country, as Iran struck critical national infrastructure in an unprecedented assault on the Gulf state.The Qatar Amiri Air Force downed both aircraft as they approached from Iranian airspace, while ground-based air defences intercepted seven ballistic missiles. Five additional drones were brought down by the Air Force and Amiri Naval Forces after they were launched against multiple locations across the country. The ministry said all projectiles were intercepted before reaching their intended targets, in line with operational plans activated immediately after the threats were detected, underlining the readiness of Qatar's layered defence architecture.However, two drones that formed part of the broader Iranian attack did succeed in reaching their targets. The first struck a water tank owned by the Mesaieed Power Plant, while the second hit a power generation facility in the Ras Laffan Industrial City — the heavily fortified hub of Qatar's liquefied natural gas industry and a cornerstone of the national economy that supplies energy markets across Europe and Asia. The Ministry of Defense confirmed that no human casualties were recorded in either strike, and said authoritative agencies would conduct a comprehensive damage assessment and release official statements in due course.The ministry stressed that Qatar's armed forces possess the full capabilities to safeguard the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and are prepared to respond firmly to any further external threat.Both the Defence Ministry and the Interior Ministry urged citizens, residents and visitors to remain calm and stay indoors where possible, avoiding unnecessary movement. The public was warned to report any suspicious objects immediately by calling 999, to stay away from incident sites, and to rely solely on official sources for information, with authorities stressing that spreading rumours or unverified content constitutes a legal violation that undermines national security efforts. 

Iranian ‌Supreme ​Leader ‌Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ‌is ⁠dead, ‌US ‌President ⁠Donald Trump said Saturday. Trump announced this on ‌his Truth ⁠Social platform, ⁠without ⁠elaborating on the source ​of the information.Trump also said that US bombing of Iran will continue as long as needed and that the killing of the country's supreme leader gives Iranians their "greatest chance" for taking power."The country has been, in only one day, very much destroyed and, even, obliterated. The heavy and pinpoint bombing, however, will continue, uninterrupted throughout the week or, as long as necessary to achieve our objective," Trump said.The death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — which Iran has not yet confirmed — "is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their country," Trump said in the statement.Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier told NBC News that Khamenei was alive "as far as I know", adding that "all high-ranking officials are alive".Also asked about Khamenei's health, foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei told the BBC he was "not in a situation to confirm anything", but "the whole system, the whole nation is focused on defending (our) national integrity".Ali Larijani, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said: "The brave soldiers and the great nation of Iran will teach an unforgettable lesson to the international oppressors."In an earlier video address, Trump told Iranians the "hour of your freedom is at hand", urging them to rise up and "take over your government". 

The Arab League condemned in the strongest rems the Iranian attacks on Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.In a statement issued Saturday, the Arab League General Secretariat considered the missile attacks a blatant violation of the sovereignty of peace-loving nations that have worked to achieve stability and have not participated in war. The statement expressed full solidarity with the Arab states in confronting these attacks and support for any measures they take to defend themselves and protect their people.The statement emphasised that Arab states have taken clear positions on the Iranian crisis by rejecting military action against Tehran, and Arab states have exerted tremendous efforts to mediate and avert the escalation being witnessed today. It also warned of the immense danger inherent in the current situation in the region, urging all active parties in the international community to work towards de-escalation as quickly as possible, to spare the region the devastating consequences of widening instability and violence, and to return to dialogue.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its rejection and condemnation in the strongest terms of the blatant and cowardly Iranian attacks that targeted the Riyadh region and the eastern province, confirming that they were repelled.In a statement issued by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Saudi Arabia stressed that these attacks cannot be justified under any pretext or in any way, and that they came despite the Iranian authorities' knowledge that the Kingdom had affirmed it would not allow its airspace or territory to be used to target Iran.In light of this unjustified aggression, the statement added, the Kingdom affirms that it will take all necessary measures to defend its security and protect its territory, citizens, and residents, including the option of responding to the aggression.
