His Excellency Chairman of the Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al-Thani held talks with Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the State of Qatar Ali Salehabadi.The talks took place in Doha on Wednesday and focused on media relations and cooperation between Qatar and Iran.

The State of Qatar has participated in the 18th meeting of the Customs Union Authority of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held in Bahrain.HE Chairman of the General Authority of Customs and President of the Executive Council of the Customs Union Authority, Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal, has represented Qatar at the meeting.The meeting has discussed a number of matters related to strengthening and advancing joint GCC customs cooperation, foremost among them the decisions of the 125th meeting of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee concerning the implementation steps required to complete the establishment of the Customs Union.Discussions also have addressed ongoing efforts related to transit and customs clearance procedures in light of current developments, reviewed reports submitted by technical committees and teams, and followed up on the implementation of the Executive Council's decisions.The meeting has also reviewed progress on projects included in the Authority's strategic plan, particularly the project to develop and operate a customs data exchange platform among GCC member states, along with a number of related technology projects. Updates on the Authority's operational activities have also been reviewed.These periodic meetings form part of ongoing efforts to advance GCC customs integration and strengthen coordination and cooperation among customs authorities and administrations across the member states. They contribute to harmonizing customs procedures, enhancing mechanisms for joint action, facilitating the smooth flow of intra-GCC trade, and improving the efficiency of the GCC customs system in support of the member states' shared objectives.

The State of Qatar participated in the 28th meeting of Their Excellencies the Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Justice in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held virtually on Wednesday.The State of Qatar's delegation was led by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Saeed bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi.The meeting addressed several topics related to strengthening joint judicial, legal, and legislative cooperation among the GCC Ministries of Justice.The meeting was also briefed on a report on the meetings of the Committee of Officials of the Departments of International Cooperation and International Relations at the Ministries of Justice in the GCC countries for 2026, as well as the General Secretariat's memorandum regarding the meeting of the Committee of Directors and Heads of Legal and Judicial Training Centers and Institutes in the GCC countries for the same year. Appropriate decisions were taken in their regard, contributing to supporting the progress of joint Gulf action, enhancing integration, and promoting the exchange of expertise between the Ministries of Justice of the GCC countries.

Doha is to host an international conference examining how artificial intelligence and digital technology are reshaping the engineering and construction sectors.The Qatar Society of Engineers will hold the Qatar Building Information Modeling (BIM) Conference on October 4. The event, sponsored by the Ministry of Municipality, brings together engineers, architects, consultants, government officials, academics and private-sector representatives.The event will focus on Building Information Modeling, a digital approach that allows information about a construction project to be integrated and managed throughout its life cycle.Organizers said BIM can improve the efficiency of project planning, construction and asset management while strengthening coordination between the different parties involved.`The conference will also examine regulations and standards governing the use of BIM in civil and industrial projects, including its integration with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which are used to collect, analyze and display geographically linked data.Artificial intelligence will be another key focus, with sessions looking at how emerging technologies can help predict project risks, monitor costs and support engineering decisions.The organizers said the conference will also consider how digital tools can contribute to environmental and architectural sustainability.More than 120 participants are expected to attend, including engineers, architects, project managers, property developers, researchers and students.Chair of the Qatar Society of Engineers Amna Al Naama said the organization wanted to keep pace with rapid technological developments in engineering and construction.She described BIM as an increasingly important element of modern project delivery, helping to improve integration across the different stages and participants of a project.Al Naama said the conference would also aim to strengthen the skills of Qatar's engineering workforce and examine the future role of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.The conference is part of efforts to support Qatar's digital transformation and advance the objectives of the country's National Vision 2030.

The Social Development Center (Nama), one of the centers operating under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, has launched the third edition of its Social Entrepreneurship Award, reaffirming its commitment to supporting innovative ideas and projects that address community challenges and create lasting social impact.The award targets young people, entrepreneurs and owners of social enterprise ideas and projects, with two main categories: Best Social Entrepreneurship Idea and Best Existing Social Enterprise Project.It also includes a Social Entrepreneurship Competition for secondary schools, aimed at fostering initiative, innovation and social responsibility among students.The Best Social Entrepreneurship Idea carries a prize of QAR 100,000, while the Best Existing Social Enterprise Project is awarded QAR 200,000. The secondary school competition offers total prizes of QAR 60,000, distributed among the winning boys' and girls' categories.Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Nama Executive Director Ghanem Salah Al Ali said the award is one of the center's key tools for empowering individuals and entrepreneurs to develop practical solutions based on community needs.He noted that the first two editions demonstrated the strong potential and promising ideas capable of delivering tangible value to society.Al Ali said the third edition introduces an intensive training program for shortlisted participants to help refine and systematically develop their ideas, from gaining a deeper understanding of social challenges to designing solutions that are more practical, sustainable and measurable in impact. He also praised the award's partners for their valuable support, stressing that these partnerships are essential to expanding the award's impact and helping entrepreneurs develop innovative solutions to community needs.Nama launched the award's first edition in 2024, with the Families of People with Autism Platform winning the Best Existing Project category and the Central Canteen Project winning the Best Project Idea category. The second edition expanded to include a competition for secondary schools, attracting 31 schools. Entries are assessed based on criteria including clarity of the social challenge, relevance of the proposed solution, expected impact, feasibility, sustainability, scalability and measurable results. As part of its collaboration with the award's partners, Nama has identified and studied a number of community challenges, providing social entrepreneurs with opportunities to develop practical and sustainable solutions that address them and create tangible impact.  The award reflects Nama's commitment to advancing social entrepreneurship and encouraging innovative, sustainable projects that contribute to addressing community challenges and supporting Qatar's social development.Applications for the third edition can be submitted through Nama's official website, with updates available through its social media platforms. (QNA)QNA 1255 GMT 2026/09/01

The committee tasked with activating the cooperation agreement in civil defense between the governments of the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held its first meeting in Riyadh, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and coordination in civil defense.The Qatari delegation was headed by Director General of Civil Defense Maj. Gen. Hamad Othman Al Duhaimi, while the Saudi delegation was headed by Director General of Civil Defense Maj. Gen. Dr. Hamoud bin Sulaiman Al Faraj.The meeting discussed the items on its agenda and adopted relevant recommendations aimed at enhancing readiness and operational efficiency, promoting the exchange of expertise, and developing emergency response mechanisms.

His Excellency  Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri met on Tuesday with Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Chaudhry Salik Hussain.During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation relations between the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the labour field, and ways to support and develop them. 

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia to establish a framework for cooperation in higher education, academic program development, faculty professional development, and academic quality assurance.The signing ceremony was attended by HE UDST President Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi and HE Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir.The MoU, signed by UDST Vice President, Academics, Dr. Rachid Benlamri and Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamud, focuses on developing joint academic diploma-level programs in five fields: Information Technology, Information Systems, Construction Engineering, Electric Power and Renewable Energy Engineering Technology, and Healthcare Management.UDST Vice President, Academics, Dr. Benlamri said: "This partnership reflects UDST’s commitment to advancing applied education through international collaboration and knowledge exchange. We look forward to sharing our academic expertise in program development, faculty professional development, and quality assurance, while working with the Ministry to create meaningful opportunities that contribute to the development of higher education in the Federal Republic of Somalia."The partnership also includes cooperation on a joint, co-branded institute in the Federal Republic of Somalia, further strengthening the two parties’ commitment to advancing academic collaboration and supporting the development of higher education.Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamud said: "This partnership with UDST is an important step in strengthening higher education in the Federal Republic of Somalia. We look forward to benefiting from UDST’s expertise in academic development and capacity building to create new opportunities for Somali students and institutions."The MoU provides a foundation for continued academic cooperation between UDST and the Ministry, supporting joint programs, faculty development, quality assurance, and institutional capacity building. 

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) announced Tuesday the start of the migratory bird hunting season, which will continue until February 15, 2027, in accordance with Ministerial Decision No. 7 of 2026 regarding the determination of the bird hunting season for specified bird species and the authorized means and methods of hunting.In a statement, the ministry stressed the need for hunters to adhere to the regulations and requirements governing the hunting season, and to comply with the types and methods specified in the ministerial decision, in order to contribute to protecting wildlife, conserving biodiversity, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, and maintaining ecological balance in the country. The decision specifies the bird species that are allowed to be hunted during the season, namely: houbara bustard, common curlew, mallard, blue rock thrush, song thrush (Al-Rukkhukh), common golden oriole, crested lark, Isabelline wheatear, desert wheatear, and northern wheatear.The decision also prohibits the hunting of any other species of wild animals, birds, or reptiles not included in the list of species permitted to be hunted, in accordance with national legislation governing the protection of the environment and wildlife.The ministry stressed that hunting the houbara bustard should be restricted to the use of falcons only, and prohibited the use of unauthorized means and equipment, particularly devices that mimic bird calls, due to their potential negative impact on wildlife and ecological balance.The MOECC called on all hunters to abide by the provisions of the decision and the regulations governing the hunting season, and to practice hunting responsibly in a manner that respects the protection of wildlife and its natural habitats. It noted that compliance with environmental legislation is a shared responsibility that contributes to conserving biodiversity and ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
