The Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), a member of Qatar Foundation, and the Young Entrepreneurs Club (YEC), which operates under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has launched the “QSTP x YEC Summer Bootcamp 2026”, a hands-on programme in technology and startup building designed to turn ideas into companies.The first session attracted 124 attendees from across Qatar, with 60% female participation, bringing together university students, fresh graduates, aspiring entrepreneurs, and technology enthusiasts.Running from July 27 to August 19, the bootcamp brings participants through 13 sessions covering every stage of building a company.Early sessions introduce participants to how the startup world works and help them reframe their thinking around real problems worth solving, before moving into business models and revenue, and a structured critique process that pushes participants to stress test their ideas.Later sessions cover how investors evaluate opportunities, the local deep tech landscape, and how to build ventures around measurable impact, followed by product development, go to market strategy, storytelling, and pitching in front of an audience.The programme closes with an introduction to what comes next through the QSTP's incubation offering, and a rehearsal presentation ahead of the Hackathon.Sessions are led by founders, investors, and industry experts from organisations including Alchemist Doha, TeKnowledge, QLUB, Ibtechar, and HostX, alongside the QSTP's own programme team.Participants will also take part in a QSTP ecosystem tour and a rehearsal Demo Day ahead of the programme's closing Hackathon, set for August 20-21, where teams will pitch their startup concepts to a live panel of judges.The closing keynote will focus on how artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way startups are built and scaled."Every year, the Summer Bootcamp shows us just how much talent is out there, waiting for the right platform,” said QSTP business development director Eng. Ahmed al-Said. “Our role is to equip these participants with the tools, mentorship, and access to Qatar's innovation ecosystem they need to turn a rough idea into something real.”“We look forward to seeing what this cohort builds over the next four weeks,” he added."This bootcamp reflects the Club's ongoing efforts to empower young people and equip them with the practical tools needed to transform innovative ideas into scalable and sustainable ventures,” said YEC vice-president Abdulrahman al-Emadi.“We are proud of our partnership with Qatar Science & Technology Park and of the support and collaboration of our partners in delivering an experience that combines knowledge, practical application, and direct engagement with industry experts,” he said. “Through this initiative, we aim to contribute to preparing a generation capable of leading the future of innovation and entrepreneurship in Qatar."Following the bootcamp, participants will be introduced to the QSTP Incubation Pathway, offering a clear route to continue developing their ventures beyond the programme.  

Qatar University has developed a smart wearable device that estimates blood glucose levels without finger pricks or blood samples, using artificial intelligence to analyse physiological signals.The device, GlucoWatch, targets a condition that affects a substantial share of the adult population in Qatar — the Ministry of Public Health puts diabetes prevalence at 18.1%, while the International Diabetes Federation's 2024 estimate is higher.A US patent application for the innovation has been published under the number US20240138776A, and the project won a gold medal at the International Invention Fair of the Middle East, held in Kuwait in 2023.It was developed by a team led by Qatar University researcher and inventor Dr Khalid Abu al-Saud, with contributions from computer engineering students Nora al-Bardini, Mazoon al-Shahwani, Fatima al-Kaabi and Sara al-Muhannadi.Speaking to QNA, Abu al-Saud said GlucoWatch is an intelligent medical system that uses AI to estimate glucose levels by analysing physiological indicators, including heart rate signals, blood pressure readings and selected demographic data.He said the technology could provide a promising alternative to conventional glucose monitoring methods that require repeated finger pricks, allowing users to track their readings through a connected mobile application.The system is designed to support diabetes management by providing regular glucose estimates, issuing alerts when levels fall outside medically approved ranges, and allowing users to share health data with family members or healthcare providers while maintaining privacy safeguards.The research team said the device could eventually support remote healthcare services and integration with digital health platforms.Abu al-Saud explained that the project began as a graduation project by computer engineering students before evolving into a specialised research initiative. Development stages included designing the prototype, creating the AI algorithms, building the companion mobile application and conducting initial validation tests against reference measurements.The researcher highlighted the key role played by the student team throughout the project, from identifying the problem and designing the system to processing data, developing AI models, building the prototype and carrying out initial testing.The team is now working on further development and wider validation, including expanding the database, improving the AI models and creating an advanced version of the wearable device.Future plans also include partnerships with healthcare and industrial organisations to transform the technology into a market-ready product, while ensuring it can be provided at an affordable cost.Abu al-Saud said investment in healthcare research and innovation supports Qatar National Vision 2030, adding that the team aims to complete the required scientific validation and regulatory steps before bringing the technology to patients in Qatar and beyond.Diabetes continues to pose a significant public-health challenge in Qatar, with recent national and international estimates pointing to a high burden among adults.The Ministry of Public Health, citing the 2023 WHO STEPwise survey, put diabetes prevalence at 18.1%, alongside an obesity rate of 33.4%. PHCC data earlier identified 126,983 adults with Type 2 diabetes among its registered population in 2021, representing 11.4%, with the rate among Qataris considerably higher at 19.2%.The International Diabetes Federation offers a higher estimate. Its 2024 figures suggest that 409,300 adults aged 20-79 in Qatar were living with diabetes, with an age-adjusted prevalence of 24.6%.The variation does not necessarily indicate conflicting evidence. Prevalence estimates can differ because surveys, clinical records and international models cover different populations, age groups and undiagnosed cases.Prevalence describes the proportion of people already living with diabetes; incidence measures only new cases arising during a specified period. Qatar has more comprehensive prevalence data than directly recorded national incidence figures.A peer-reviewed modelling study led by Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar researchers estimated about 25,000 new Type 2 diabetes cases in 2021. 

Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) has announced the Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE), a fully integrated platform for the trade of rough and polished diamonds and precious stones hosted within Ras Bufontas Free Zone.Bringing together trading, membership, vaulting, certification, and industry services within a single regulated ecosystem, QDE establishes a new gateway for global diamond trade in Qatar, connecting Doha to international diamond markets and advancing economic diversification under Qatar National Vision 2030.Qatar became a full participant in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) in 2021, reaffirming the state's commitment to the responsible and transparent trade of conflict-free rough diamonds.Implemented through Law No (15) of 2025, Qatar's Kimberley Process framework designates QFZ as the state's competent authority and establishes Qatar's free zones as the sole legitimate entry and exit point for rough diamonds. QDE provides the regulated platform through which members can trade, store, certify, and transact within Qatar's diamond ecosystem.QDE operates as a single regulated platform with a secure trading floor, private negotiation suites, an institutional-grade vault with biometric access control, 24/7 on-site security and surveillance, and on-site customs and certification facilities, providing members with a seamless and secure environment in which to conduct business.QFZ CEO Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal al-Thani, who is also chairman of the Qatar Diamond Exchange, said: “The Qatar Diamond Exchange represents an important step in Qatar's efforts to further diversify its economy and strengthen its position as a trusted participant in global diamond trade. Building on Qatar's participation in the Kimberley Process since 2021, we have established the regulatory and institutional foundations needed to support the growth of a new strategic sector for the state.“Through QDE, we are bringing together the full diamond and precious stones value chain within a single regulated ecosystem spanning trading, storage, vaulting, auctions and tenders, and industry support services.”Membership of the exchange is open to companies that trade, manufacture, cut and polish diamonds, alongside affiliate service providers and industry bodies. Members gain access to trading licences, on-site assortment and independent valuation, vault access, and specialist insurance all within a free zone offering 100% foreign ownership and 0% corporate tax for qualifying entities. A curated calendar of rough and polished tenders will connect producers across Africa and Asia with buyers in Europe and the Gulf.For more information and to apply for membership, visit qde.qa.

His Excellency Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad met on Sunday with the Ambassador of Ukraine to the State of Qatar Andrii Kuzmenko.The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation relations and ways to support and strengthen them, along with issues of mutual concern.  

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani received the President of the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Iraq Dr. Faiq Zidan, at his office at Lusail Palace on Sunday morning.His Excellency extended his condolences to His Highness on the passing of HH the Late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, praying to Almighty Allah to encompass HH the Late Father Amir with His vast mercy and grant him a place in His spacious Paradise.For his part, HH the Amir expressed his thanks and appreciation to HE the President of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq for his sincere condolences and kind sympathy.   

Qatar Chamber has concluded its international training programme ‘Professional in Corporate Social Responsibility’, organised in collaboration with the Regional Network for Consulting, a member of the Regional Network for Social Responsibility.The programme, held virtually, witnessed the participation of trainees representing various government and private entities in Qatar, as well as participants from Arab institutions and organisations.The session was delivered by Dr Ali al-Ibrahim, a professor and expert in corporate social responsibility. The session focused on developing participants’ skills and enhancing their knowledge in managing and implementing corporate social responsibility initiatives through professional methodologies.Fatima Issa al-Kuwari, head of Training and Development at Qatar Chamber, emphasised the chamber’s commitment to providing high-quality training programmes that contribute to preparing and qualifying specialised professionals in emerging fields, including corporate social responsibility.Al-Kuwari said, “Corporate social responsibility has become an increasingly important professional field, with many institutions establishing dedicated administrative units within their organisational structures to oversee this area. This requires qualified and specialized professionals capable of effectively managing corporate social responsibility programs and initiatives.”The programme is part of Qatar Chamber’s efforts to develop human capital and raise awareness of the importance of corporate social responsibility as a key pillar in achieving sustainable development and enhancing the role of institutions in serving the community.

His Excellency Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met on Sunday with the Ambassador of the European Union to the State of Qatar, Cristian Tudor.During the meeting, the two sides reviewed relations between the Shura Council and the European Union and ways to enhance joint coordination, in addition to discussing several issues of mutual interest. 

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received on Sunday a phone call from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud.During the call, the two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation and ways to support and strengthen it. They also discussed the latest regional developments, particularly ongoing diplomatic efforts and joint coordination to de-escalate tensions and enhance security and stability in the region.HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the need for all parties to remain committed to dialogue and diplomacy and to implement what was agreed upon under the memorandum of understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, including ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in order to safeguard regional security, preserve the gains achieved, and promote regional stability.HE reiterated the State of Qatar’s full support for all efforts aimed at defusing tensions and reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves lasting peace in the region.    

His Excelllency Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim received a written message from the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, pertaining to bilateral relations and ways to enhance joint coordination between the two sides.The message was delivered by the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the State of Qatar Dr. Adish Mammadov during a meeting with HE the Speaker of the Shura Council on Sunday.

Exceptional Achievements in Sports Education and Digital Transformation Within Six Months  The Qatar Olympic Academy (QOA) has further solidified its position as one of the leading institutions in Olympic education and sports leadership at both the national and regional levels. During the first half of 2026, the Academy achieved a series of institutional, academic, and media milestones that reflect the success of its strategy in developing sports competencies, promoting sustainable education, and supporting the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. According to the Academy’s semi-annual report, the period from January to June 2026 witnessed significant growth across all areas of operation, including academic and training programs, international strategic partnerships, media and digital presence, and the launch of new initiatives aimed at advancing digital transformation and enhancing the experience of learners and beneficiaries. During the first six months of the year, the Academy delivered nine specialized educational and training programs, attracting 408 participants from within Qatar and abroad. In addition, 54 students enrolled in the Academy’s diploma programs, representing both local and international audiences. The programs were delivered under the supervision of 11 international experts and lecturers from eight different countries, further enriching the academic content and the professional expertise offered to participants. The Academy also achieved an impressive 95% participant satisfaction rate, reflecting the quality and effectiveness of its educational programs and training activities.As the academic and educational arm of the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Qatar Olympic Academy is dedicated to developing human capital within the sports sector through internationally recognized educational programs, specialized research and training initiatives, and strategic partnerships with leading academic and sports institutions worldwide. The Academy’s vision is to serve as a premier center for sports and Olympic education in the region, driven by academic excellence, innovation, and lifelong learning. During the first half of 2026, the Academy implemented a diverse portfolio of specialized programs covering sports management, sustainability, leadership, artificial intelligence, and organizational development.   Among the most notable was the “Generative Artificial Intelligence for Sports Leaders” program, which attracted 67 participants, making it the most attended program and highlighting the growing interest in emerging technologies and their role in shaping the future of sports organizations and governance.The Academy also succeeded in broadening the diversity of its participant base, attracting athletes, coaches, administrators, academics, and institutional leaders from sports, government, and private sectors.  Male participants represented 66% of attendees, while female participation accounted for 34%, reflecting the Academy’s continuing efforts to promote inclusivity and balanced representation in sports education. On the international cooperation front, the Academy engaged experts and lecturers from Qatar, Oman, Jordan, the United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Russia, Lebanon, and Egypt. This international expertise enabled participants to benefit from global best practices and specialized knowledge in sports management, Olympic education, digital transformation, sustainability, sports marketing, and event management. As part of its commitment to enhancing the learner experience and measuring program impact, participant feedback indicated consistently high levels of satisfaction with both the scientific content and the expertise delivered. Many participants reported that the programs significantly contributed to the development of their professional skills and broadened their practical knowledge in sports management, athlete support, and sports organization development, demonstrating the Academy’s success in achieving its educational and developmental objectives. Media and Institutional Communications The Academy’s Media and Marketing Department continued implementing a comprehensive communications strategy aimed at strengthening the Academy’s institutional presence and expanding the reach of its educational mission. The department achieved remarkable results across both traditional and digital media channels. In the digital sphere, Academy content generated more than 473,000 views during the reporting period, while recording continuous monthly growth of 2.2%. The Academy’s X (formerly Twitter) platform achieved more than 60,000 impressions through over 220 posts, while its LinkedIn account surpassed 600 followers since its launch earlier this year. Notably, all of these achievements were accomplished without any paid advertising campaigns, underscoring the effectiveness of the Academy’s digital content strategy. Digital analytics also demonstrated that a significant proportion of content engagement came from non-followers through organic discovery, contributing to increased awareness of the Academy’s educational programs and activities among new audiences both inside and outside Qatar.Several media campaigns delivered exceptional results, particularly the promotional campaign for the Diploma in Olympic Sports Organizations Management, which generated more than 15,000 organic views and attracted approximately 135 new followers. Similarly, media coverage of the Sports Villages Management Course and the Olympic Principles Course received strong engagement from diverse audience segments. In traditional media, the Academy maintained a strong presence through the issuance of 16 press releases in Arabic and English, published across newspapers, news agencies, and online media platforms. During the same period, Academy representatives participated in more than 42 live television interviews, 40 recorded television interviews, and eight radio interviews, while more than 45 media reports highlighted the Academy’s programs and activities.As part of its efforts to enhance institutional services, the Academy made significant progress toward building an integrated digital ecosystem through the development of a Student Information System (SIS).   The system will provide beneficiaries with a unified platform for online registration, access to learning materials, digital certification, and academic progress tracking. Simultaneously, the Academy continues work on redeveloping its website to serve as the primary digital gateway for all its services, programs, and initiatives.The Academy also launched several new strategic initiatives, including the Institutional Training Services Project, designed to serve sports organizations, federations, government entities, and event organizers.   In addition, the SCORE Impact Assessment Reports Project was introduced to evaluate sports programs and events using evidence-based methodologies and performance indicators, supporting informed decision-making and enhancing the effectiveness of sports programs across the region.Meanwhile, the Qatar Olympic Academy Library strengthened its role as an active knowledge hub, reaching 309 registered users and engaging 12 volunteers in its programs.   The library also received regional recognition from the Middle East and North Africa Regional Office of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) in appreciation of its high-quality services and contributions to sports knowledge dissemination and Olympic education.In the area of social responsibility and Olympic values promotion, the Academy, through its library, organized three educational workshops for school students focusing on Olympic values and sport for development and peace. These activities coincided with several significant national and international occasions, reinforcing the Academy’s role in promoting community awareness and instilling sporting values among younger generations. The report emphasized that the achievements realized during the first half of 2026 represent an important milestone in the Academy’s journey toward further growth and development, particularly through ongoing digital transformation projects, the launch of new services, the advancement of academic programs, and the strengthening of its regional position as a leading reference center for Olympic education and sports leadership.  International and Global Presence As part of its efforts to strengthen its international presence and expand its professional network, the Qatar Olympic Academy participated in the National Olympic Academies Forum, organized by the International Olympic Academy in Greece, with broad participation from representatives of Olympic academies and sports organizations worldwide. During the forum, the Academy’s delegation took part in specialized workshops and discussions addressing the development of academic programs and Olympic education, the exchange of experiences and best practices in sports institution management, and ways to enhance the role of Olympic academies in supporting athletes, administrators, and future sports leaders. The participation provided the Academy with valuable opportunities to explore the latest global trends in Olympic education and establish professional partnerships with international academic and sports institutions. The Academy also strengthened regional cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Olympic Academy on the sidelines of the Olympic Council of Asia meetings in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The agreement aims to promote collaboration in Olympic education, training programs, scientific research, and knowledge exchange, contributing to the development of sports competencies in both countries and supporting efforts to advance sports education and professional qualification systems across the region. The agreement represents an important step toward building sustainable strategic partnerships among Gulf
