His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held a conversation via telephone Saturday with US President Donald Trump. They discussed the latest developments in light of the continued and unjustified Iranian attacks on Qatar and countries in the region, in addition to efforts made to contain the current escalation. His Highness the Amir stressed during the call that the current escalation seen in the region will have dangerous repercussions on international security and peace, stressing the importance of containing the crisis and intensifying diplomacy to end it. His Highness also stressed that Qatar will not hesitate to defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests in line with the UN Charter and the provisions of international law. The two side agreed on the importance of working together to maintain regional and international stability and to support political avenues that could address current tensions and avoid further escalation in the region. 

His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi received a telephone call from Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Oana Toiu.The call discussed the developments in military escalation and their menacing consequences on regional and global security and stability, as well as ways to resolve disputes through peaceful means.HE al-Muraikhi stressed that the Iranian assault on Qatari territory amounts to a gross violation of its national sovereignty, runs contrary to the principles of good neighbourliness, and can never be accepted under any justification or pretext. Qatar has always been committed to refraining from regional conflicts and has sought to facilitate dialogue between the Iranian side and the international community. However, the renewal of targeting its territory doesn’t indicate good faith and imperils the groundwork for understandings that overtly underpin the bilateral relationship between the two nations, he underlined.HE al-Muraikhi further stressed the importance of the immediate cessation of any escalatory acts, returning to the negotiating table, and giving the language of reason and judiciousness overriding priority, as well as working to contain the crisis to protect the region's security. For her part, Toiu emphasised that Romania condemns the Iranian attack on Qatari territory as a flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty, airspace, international law, and the UN Charter.  

Commercial aviation across the Middle East ground to a near-standstill on Saturday as GCC nations and key regional neighbours closed or restricted their airspace in the wake of United States and Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran's retaliatory missile attacks on American military bases in the Gulf.Radar tracking service Flightradar24 showed vast swathes of the region emptying of commercial traffic within hours of the strikes on 28 February 2026, with authorities describing the measures as precautionary in response to active military operations, missile risks, and fears of debris or misidentification.Qatar moved swiftly to fully suspend operations in its airspace, with flag carrier Qatar Airways halting all flights to and from Doha. The UAE imposed a temporary airspace closure as a "precautionary measure," suspending all flights in and out of Dubai International and Al Maktoum airports until further notice. Both Emirates and Etihad were heavily affected, with no firm reopening timeline announced.Bahrain, host to the US Fifth Fleet headquarters, itself struck during Iran's retaliation, suspended all airspace operations. Kuwait similarly closed its airspace and halted all flights to Iran until further notice. In Oman, Muscat International Airport temporarily shut, with Oman Air suspending services to Baghdad and carriers including Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa pausing flights to the sultanate.Saudi Arabia stopped short of a full airspace closure, though Saudia temporarily cancelled a number of flights. Riyadh condemned the Iranian strikes on its neighbours but kept its airspace open, with Europe-to-Asia routes actively diverting westward over Saudi territory to avoid the conflict zones.Beyond the Gulf, Iraq closed its airspace entirely, forcing major reroutes for long-haul traffic across the globe. Jordan and Lebanon both saw their airspace reported empty on tracking services, with carriers including Wizz Air suspending services to Amman and multiple airlines cancelling Beirut flights amid fears of regional spillover.Iran and Israel separately closed their airspace to civilian flights "until further notice" following the initial strikes.International carriers moved quickly and independently to suspend or reroute dozens of services. Air India, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, Turkish Airlines, and Wizz Air were among those issuing advisories, avoiding Iranian, Iraqi, and Israeli airspace entirely. European Union regulators urged airlines to steer clear of the affected zones.The disruption to routes linking Europe, India, Asia, and the Gulf is expected to be significant, with travellers warned that the situation remains fast-moving. Airlines are urging passengers to check directly for the latest flight status, as further cancellations and changes are considered likely pending any de-escalation of hostilities.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Dr Majid al-Ansari has said Qatar is a party to communications aimed at de-escalating regional tensions and resolving the dispute between Washington and Tehran. He emphasised that "diplomacy is the effective way to resolve the region's crises, and we are working on this with our neighbours and partners."Speaking at the weekly press briefing Tuesday, al-Ansari added, "We are not talking about war at the moment, but rather expectations of a possible military escalation in the region, and we are striving for de-escalation."Regarding Gaza Strip developments, al-Ansari described the situation as an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe. He affirmed that Qatar is working with mediators to advance the second phase of the Gaza agreement, reiterating his country's rejection of linking the agreement to the opening of the Rafah crossing and aid entry, which must proceed without conditions.He pointed out that humanitarian aid cannot be used as a pressure tactic and that the international community must fulfil its responsibilities. "We do not expect timetables regarding Gaza, but our contacts are continuous and daily to push the agreement forward. The complexities on the table call for progress towards the second phase, and Israel must answer why implementation is being delayed," he added.Al-Ansari made it clear that mediators are in daily contact to advance the political process and move towards the second phase of the ceasefire agreement. He described the humanitarian disaster in Gaza as not a weather event, but a man-made catastrophe created by the Israeli occupation, which continues efforts to prolong the disaster on the largest possible scale and inflict maximum harm on Palestinians.When asked what was hindering progress towards the second phase and why Israel wasn't implementing it, he said Israel must answer these questions. He explained that Israel is creating obstacles and complications, asserting that Israel doesn't want to reach the second phase in any way.He emphasised that Israel is obstructing progress that would end the crisis, asking why Israel doesn't open the Rafah crossing. Al-Ansari stressed that humanitarian aid and ending the catastrophe should not be linked to ceasefire implementation and the second phase.He indicated that after Israeli prisoners and bodies were returned to their families, Israel is now creating obstacles to further advance the agreement and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. 

The State of Qatar expressed its deep concern over the ongoing developments in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, calling in this context for restraint, de-escalation, and the adoption of dialogue as the appropriate means to address all outstanding issues.In a statement Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the State of Qatar's position advocating adherence to the Charter of the United Nations and the established principles of international law, including obligations under the Charter to resolve international disputes through peaceful means.The ministry reiterated the State of Qatar's full readiness to contribute to any international effort aimed at achieving an immediate peaceful solution, underlining its commitment to keeping channels of communication open with all concerned parties.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called for a firm and prudent response to Russia's repeated violations of NATO airspace over Poland and Estonia. In a statement before leaving Berlin for Poland, Wadephul affirmed Germany's support for Poland, saying that they stand united, maintain calm, and will not allow themselves to be drawn into escalation, leaving no room for doubt about their determination and readiness to jointly confront any threat. He stressed that Moscow's repeated breaches were not accidental mistakes, but rather deliberate attacks, describing them as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's hybrid aggression. Such provocations are extremely dangerous, and their sole purpose is to test determination, Wadephul added. Warsaw announced that numerous Russian drones had violated Polish airspace, meaning NATO airspace, during a Russian air attack on Ukraine about two weeks ago, adding that the Polish air force and other NATO allies shot down some of these drones for the first time.
