Philippines fully implements e-Visa system in Qatar

The Philippine Embassy in Doha Qatar has announced the full implementation of the Philippine electronic Visa (e-Visa) system in Qatar, effective on October 5, allowing eligible Qatar residents to apply online for temporary visit visas to the Philippines. Under the new system, the embassy said in a post on its social media pages that eligible Qatar residents can submit e-Visa applications through the official Philippine e-Visa website and pay the applicable fees via direct bank transfer, where required. Once approved and issued by the embassy, the e-Visa can be accessed remotely through a computer, laptop or mobile device. Visa holders may present either a digital or printed copy upon travel to the Philippines. The embassy said the e-Visa will no longer be affixed to the applicant’s passport. Applicants are also reminded to complete the Philippines’ online e-Travel registration after their e-Visa has been issued. Applicants must complete the registration within 72 hours before arrival in the Philippines to help avoid difficulties at ports of entry. The Philippines embassy stressed that applicants should not complete the e-Travel registration before their e-Visa is issued. It also clarified that Philippine e-Visas cannot be converted into other visa types and that the authorised period of stay cannot be extended. Foreign nationals planning to travel to the Philippines for purposes such as study, employment or other non-tourism activities are advised to apply for a regular visa sticker through the Philippine embassy in Qatar. The full implementation of the e-Visa system is expected to provide eligible travellers in Qatar with a more convenient and accessible way to obtain Philippine visas for temporary visits.

Tunisia offers more than beaches, says travel writer

With its Mediterranean beaches, green landscapes, historic medinas and rich culinary traditions, Tunisia offers far more than a conventional seaside break, according to Qatari journalist and tourism writer Moza Abdulaziz al-Ishaq.Al-Ishaq, a recipient of the Visit Qatar Outstanding Service Excellence Award and the Arab Union for Tourist Media Award for her book Creative Qatar Tourism, recently visited Tunisia. She later shared her impressions with the Qatari public on Instagram, highlighting the country’s breadth of experiences and its appeal to Arab travellers.Reflecting on the destinations she visited, al-Ishaq said: “Tunisia comprises approximately 24 governorates; while it is impossible to visit them all in a single trip, I explored two key areas: the Sousse Governorate and the city of Hammamet, both of which are among the country's premier tourist destinations.“For those interested in cultural tourism, there is the Medina (the historic old city), a place that embodies the country's culture, traditional attire, and authentic cuisine. It is the ideal spot for anyone wishing to immerse themselves in Tunisian heritage.**media[496545]**“I particularly enjoyed the local cuisine and sweets, such as Lablabi, Brik, and Harissa, for which Tunisia is renowned. The country also places great emphasis on art, culture, and music, boasting beautiful, culturally rich cafés that offer a serene atmosphere for culture enthusiasts.“One cannot overlook the Zaytuna Mosque in the Medina, a must-visit for those interested in Islamic history and heritage, or the legacies of figures like Ibn Khaldun, the father of sociology whose teachings have influenced us all, and Uqba ibn Nafi, a prominent Arab commander who led the Islamic conquests in North Africa.“Honestly, Tunisia offers the perfect blend of cultural, recreational, and natural seaside experiences for every type of traveller.“The hospitality of its people is exemplary, everywhere you go,” al-Ishaq said.Visits by journalists specialising in tourism offer local readers a window into cultures that complement the travel experience. Tunisia has a reputation, not only in developing its people and strengthening its cultural foundations, but also in its tourism sector since the 1960s and 1970s, building the reputation it enjoys today. By sharing this culture, I hope to encourage Qatari citizens to visit Tunisia and help bring our Arab peoples closer together. Such visits can also open new avenues for tourism, investment and cooperation between our two brotherly countries.**media[496546]**Her observations reflect the range at the heart of Tunisia’s tourism offer. Beach destinations such as Sousse and Hammamet can be paired with medina walks, mosque visits, local food, cafés, music and heritage sites, allowing one journey to move easily between relaxation and cultural discovery.Accessibility adds to that appeal. Tunisia is roughly a five-hour flight from Qatar, while air links and straightforward travel arrangements make it a practical option for a short Mediterranean holiday or a longer, multi-stop itinerary. Its mix of coastal resorts, historic quarters and cultural attractions also broadens its appeal beyond the traditional summer beach season."It offers a complete experience that combines culture, sports, leisure, business and family tourism, making it attractive to visitors from around the world."Tunisia’s tourism momentum is also visible in recent figures. The country welcomed more than 11mn visitors in 2025, surpassing its previous annual record, while tourism receipts reached about 8.1bn Tunisian dinars. Central Bank figures reported for the first half of 2026 showed receipts continuing to rise, reinforcing the case for a destination increasingly promoted through its beaches, heritage, cities, cuisine and desert experiences.

Qatar tourism 'shows resilience amid regional turmoil'

His Excellency Saad bin Ali al-Kharji, chairman of Qatar Tourism, Saturday said the sector’s progress in 2026 had demonstrated its resilience amid regional challenges and disruption to travel. Qatar received approximately 2.338mn visitors by the end of August, following a record 5.1mn visitors in 2025, he said. Close co-ordination across government, aviation, hospitality and the wider tourism community had supported the industry’s response to these challenges. “For Qatar, 2026 has been a year of progress, resilience and transformation, reinforcing our belief that the future of tourism will be defined not only by how many people we welcome, but by the quality of the experiences we create and the strength of the ecosystem we build around them,” al-Kharji said in a statement marking World Tourism Day 2026. World Tourism Day provided an opportunity to reflect on tourism’s evolution and its contribution to the country’s long-term economic and social development, he added. Al-Kharji recalled His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani’s address to the UN General Assembly, in which he affirmed that Qatar’s resilience was rooted in forward planning, preparedness and sustained investment in people and national capabilities. These principles continued to guide national development and were reflected in the tourism sector’s progress, he said. Al-Kharji stressed that collaboration also extended across the GCC, with Qatar’s role as GCC Tourism Capital in 2026 supporting efforts to deepen regional co-operation and develop a more integrated Gulf tourism landscape. Joint tourism offerings, progress towards a unified GCC tourism visa and co-ordinated promotion in priority international markets would help ease travel across the region, broaden its appeal and strengthen its global tourism presence, he said. He added that the World Tourism Day theme reflected a transformation already taking shape in Qatar, with technology improving every stage of the visitor journey, from digital entry through Hayya to destination discovery, trip planning and access to experiences. Visit Qatar’s use of generative AI was enabling more intuitive and personalised engagement with travellers, while its digital platforms were making events, attractions and activities easier to discover. Tools simplifying access to information and ticketing formed part of a wider ambition to deliver a seamless visitor journey and respond to travellers’ changing expectations. “As we look towards 2027, our focus remains on building a competitive, innovative and future-ready tourism sector that creates lasting value for Qatar,” al-Kharji said. This meant continuing to diversify the country’s tourism offering across culture, entertainment, sport, wellness and culinary experiences, while ensuring service excellence throughout the visitor journey. He stressed that investing in the people delivering those experiences was equally important, including strengthening industry skills through initiatives such as the Service Excellence Academy and developing a highly skilled tourism workforce. Guided by Qatar National Vision 2030, these efforts would support economic diversification, attract investment and create opportunities for private-sector growth, while strengthening Qatar’s position as a globally connected destination. Al-Kharji thanked partners in Qatar, across the region and internationally for their contributions to achieving these ambitions.

Visit Qatar did an initiative to sign an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) to strengthen co-ordination across Qatar’s growing events ecosystem as the country seeks to build on more than a decade of experience in hosting major international events. A MoU signed between the two entities will establish a Joint Working Group focused on sharing expertise and talent and supporting the planning and delivery of entertainment, cultural, sporting and business events, conferences and tourism experiences across Qatar. The agreement was signed during the launch of Visit Qatar’s Qatar Calendar 2026-2027. Visit Qatar was represented by its CEO, Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, while the SC was represented by Jassim Al Jassim, CEO of the Local Organising Committee for Football Events (LOC). His Excellency Hassan Al Thawadi, Managing Director of the SC, said the partnership with Visit Qatar would be central to implementing the committee’s new mandate and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders involved in organising events. “Our partnership with Visit Qatar is central to the realisation of the new mandate. The SC operates in close conjunction with event organisers, coordinating plans, timelines and resources across the sector, while Visit Qatar carries Qatar’s story to the world as a destination and a host,” Al Thawadi said. He added that the MoU forms part of a broader effort to bring stakeholders across the national events ecosystem closer together and support the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. The partnership comes as the SC takes on an expanded role in developing Qatar’s long-term events sector. Under the Amiri Decision on the reorganisation of the SC, the committee is tasked with developing a long-term, integrated vision for hosting and organising events within and outside Qatar, in collaboration with national stakeholders. The mandate also includes supporting the development of the State’s five-year events calendar and helping different entities deliver events sustainably and efficiently across multiple disciplines, while ensuring the sector contributes to the country’s wider development plans. As part of the new framework, an Events Selection Committee established by the SC Board of Directors evaluates events and provides recommendations to relevant national stakeholders. The Qatar Events Platform is another key component of the framework, bringing event activities together through a single national digital system through which government entities can plan, coordinate and manage events. Al Thawadi said Qatar’s experience in hosting major events over the past decade had created capabilities that could now be deployed to develop a more sustainable and commercially viable events sector. “The real legacy that came out of the events we have hosted over the past decade is capability: the systems, experience and people who know how to plan, deliver and run major events at the highest level,” he said. “Our mandate is about putting that capability to work: building an events sector that stands on its own, creates space for the private sector to grow, and generates real returns for Qatar well beyond any single event.” The MoU was announced alongside the Qatar Calendar 2026-2027 launch, where Al Thawadi also joined His Excellency Saad Al-Kharji, Chairman of Qatar Tourism, for a high-level panel discussion titled “The Role of Sport in Enhancing the Country’s Image as a Dynamic Destination”. The discussion examined the role of major sporting events in contributing to Qatar’s international profile as a tourism and events destination.
